When you drive alot, changing the oil every 500 miles gets old pretty quickly.
Today, I'll fit a partial flow oil filter AND take care of my rear main oil leak, once again.
Enjoy!

Addendum: 1.: Turns out you DO NOT have to cut the rubber membrane before fitting the filter. 2..: For those wondering if the partial flow filter actually does anything: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y9H4F7WKnbw.html

7:35 Now THAT'S an unboxing!! Well, you know what they say, "Buy a Ford and you have a job for life!" The think I really love about these old beasts is that as cranky as they can be to keep running, you can also do most repairs and modifications with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Mind you, being a skilled machinist and having a lathe and milling machine to hand doesn't hurt! I always enjoy your videos. It's obvious that despite the difficulties of keeping an 90 year old car on the road, you genuinely love the little beast.

To be fair, any car of that time period requires very periodic maintenance in order to keep it in well working order - no matter the make. On the other hand, I wouldn't want it any other way - having the car just sit in the garage would get boring pretty quickly! Regularly being under the car also means one gets a frequent idea of the state that the car is in. I know the condition of just about any nut and bolt of the Model A, whilst the frame on our family car may be completely rotted out without me knowing, because I never had a look under there! And, yes, in my case, spending so much time with the car did get me emotionally attached to it xD

Adrian, very well done. I recently put the one on my car that has the valve cover plate and sticks out perpendicular to the engine. That one also seems to work, but I like the idea of poking a hole in the rubber valve. I don’t think we have to worry about back-flow. You do great videos with a bit of dry humor. I like it. PS: The one I installed was a lot of work because you have to bend and shape the small curly pipe just so to get it in. Yours looks like a much easier installation.
@AstraWerke

Absolutely - especially with no oil pressure gauge to observe what's going on, I don't mind a bit of backflow on an engine that has been fed unfiltered oil for all its life. Thanks alot for the compliments :D

I have been considering installing that same filter system on my 1931 Victoria. Having asked Paul Shinn if one style was preferable to the other his response allowed you to make up your own mind. Like you, I think the style you have installed is preferable in looks to the valve cover mounted style. I wish you were my neighbor!
@AstraWerke
@AstraWerke 2 года назад
Well, they both filter the oil, so from that standpoint it is indeed your choice on what to install. Considering ease of installation, looks, price and fail safety, the partial flow is preferrable, in my opinion.

Adian, well done job, as I did the same. Very very important to perforate that rubber membrane that serves as a check valve. And as you notice the circulation of the oil is OK, as my oil also remains very clear. @mikeevans5204
@mikeevans5204 Год назад
@@anthonygarofalo4151 Yes, as many holes the metal part that has the treat to screw the filter on, I use an ice pick, and pry a hole through the rubber. So, now restriction is caused by this rubber diaphragm. It’s simple and need to be done, or you have a restriction that the model A pump will limit the free flow of the oil, and the free flow is needed and making these holes you will have no problem.

when you do an oil filter change you can take old filter and cut it open. Take a hack saw and saw behind the lip of the filter can all the way around. When can separates pull the filter out. To be honest, I haven't decided yet. 5000 miles would be super chill, as it coincides with the "big interval" where diff and transmission fluids need changing, too, but I've been told by some members of the club that that would be pushing it a little. My Model A has a model B motor which is suppose to have an oil pump system vs the older model A motor used gravity to return the back into the oil plan. However on the side of the block where you attached an oil line from the engine to the filter is plugged off. I can’t see a socket head to unscrew the plug. I’m afraid to drill it out. Do you have any suggestions??
@AstraWerke
@AstraWerke Год назад
From what I can see online, there should be a plug in the same place. It's a slotted grub screw, so maybe the slot is just covered by dirt or paint? You might be able to take a dremel and cut a slit into it - if you have to drill it out, I'd suggest to pull the pan and put a rag in the oil pump tunnel so no chips can get into the engine's oil paths.

I really appreciate your reply, maybe I didn’t explain myself correctly and I apologize. The aluminum part that bolts on to the engine over the timing gear has a surface area that utilizes the L shaped gasket I believe there’s another area there, does that also get sealer or just metal to metal when you bolted on?

@AstraWerke
@AstraWerke 2 года назад
@@JDvintagemi Not really, if you're familiar with this kind of gasket (consisting of several parts, that is). Take your time to cut the rope and cork strip to the right length, let the rope soak in oil overnight and put a dab of sealant on the meeting surfaces between rope and cork - that ought to get the job done. Oh yes, and the Oil pump needs to be kept in place. There's a special tool, but you can just jam an allen wrench into the plugged inspection hole on the side of the engine to keep the oil pump up in the block. Oil coolers are only needed on High Performance (or air cooled) engines that operate at temperatures so high that the oil runs in danger of losing its viscosity.
