Around 2007-2009 ford began fitting the wet belt on this engine, on those years you could have a chain or belt and as you pointed out the end of the tensioner bolt (under PAS pump) tells you which type you have, early engines are chain, later are wet belt and 07-09 could be either, ford must have been using up old stock alongside phasing in the wet belt units.
It's always the same old story... People have someone botch their cars and when finally they have no where else to go, Luis , the car CSI comes in place.. you never catch a break, always get the bad ones ... Great video once again and keep being honest with your customers that's the best way to grab them
Taking on other people's failed attempts certainly makes for interesting videos, Luis. I noticed @ 7' 07" , the MaxiSys said "water in the fuel...notOK" . Very well done on this video.
The design is fine. It’s the servicing that creates the problem. Most back street garages assume it’s still chain driven. Another contributing factor is oil contamination. If you got a motor with that lynx engine you can get it converted to chain !!
From the moment u touch the starter relay straight away i knew was a wet belt. I did 4 galaxys with the same problem wet belt went. Then people starting messing around with electric. In there should be really a chain and a belt on the top. But Italians they did this for saving costs. Belts are cheaper than chains. And quiet too. Even on auto data it says its a chain on there. But actually is not. The old 1.8 tdci engines did have a chain. After 2007 they fit in some of them wet belts . The 4 galaxys i fit a replacement engine and all was good. Wet belt on oil thats not a great design to be honest. On another hand that engines are bullet proof. Good video.
8:18 Watching with headphones, got abit of a jump scare haha. 🤣 I don't even work on cars much myself, but each of these videos are super interesting to watch. Always excited when I see a new upload, great video as always! 😁 - these cars you get really do get tampered with badly.
i've not seen a wet belt problem yet but i must say for a 10-12 year old car that's not bad for a belt ( it's not good either) but when you look at the merc's and bmw's snapping chains at 80k or 4 years it's surprisingly good , but i would still rather a chain on the ford :) great video
Question is what they did before that car stopped cranking?? Did they look for issues in car's electric while was no firing up?? Weird... Good to you, you don't need to dig deeper to find previously created issue
@@markknights5109 nope. the duratec has a cam chain that is well engineered and I have a new intake manifold. my car has done 150k miles and drives superb.
Ford has a safety system that won't let you crank when the battery voltage gets low. Even after a charge of the battery the system needs to be reset by disconnecting the battery leads for few mins.
if the car had starter motor problem on first break down,i check battery and wires to starter ,with bulb for power, and rock car in gear, turn engine over ,see if ok ,starter jammed,if turn over ok,then a bump start ,see if got fuel and engine ok,if engine tight or clicks, grinds ,then engine is in trouble ,nice vid ,seen loads cars roughly handled too, makes me mad as well ,not good practice ,with customers cars
That sounds like a stripped timing belt, last broken ford with a 1.8 TDI through my doors actually ended breaking the camshaft in 3 pieces. Mr valve and Mr piston had a meeting of heads...
I have Launch X431V SD card version , all data is install on SD , no speed issues all runs perfect. automotive diag data is not 8K CGI productions .... :) .... on the other hand .... I had identical car last week , the belt from crank to FP was broken ("nobody replace that" , just the upper one). the car was scrapped :)
Older 1.8tdci engines come with duplex timing chain. Never cause any problems. Models after 2008 come with wet belt which causes ptoblem you have expirienced
You heard the first time you cranked the engine that there was major damage . Maybe the other garage tried to pull it to start but actually , this was non of your concern. You were right to stop diagnosing the electrical issues . Engine kaput means no need to crank.
I have a MK4 Mondeo that is a no crank start. Have tried jumping battery, changed fuses and relays, still nothing. When ran OBD I do hve ABS codes come up and have had ABS light on for a while. You said i mondeo ABS is part of immoblizer system, could having faulty sensors cause car t noy start?
As soon as this was a non start and a 1.8 there was a poss wet belt had gone and they all change the cambelt but as the wet belt is a big job no one is willing to get involved unless the car was towed back words to try and start it and jumped the chain...same as the transit vans fitted with 2.4 2.2 and 20 they try and tow start in reverse the chain jumps and damages the engine......
Hi Louis! Just wonder why are you losing time by checking the DTC by accessing each module, since you can have all DTC's in one sheet using the "Report" button on the bottom of the diagnose page.
Superb video as always! May I have a question. Based on your experience which of the two engines could be a better choice in terms of reliability with a stage 1 ecu upgrade? Mondeo mk4 2.0 tdci vs Audi B6 A4 1.9 PDTDI. Many thanks for your input!
Not really... whether he decided to repair, scrap or replace the engine, wouldn't be for me to do it... to be honest I have never asked him either... 👍👍👍
Why people destroy the cars? They are not mechanics and should never ever work on that industry. I understand, they want too earn the living. There is always possible to do easier things like oil change or brakes job, not that kind of dodgy repair work. On these days thanks for social media, they should quickly out from that business if everyone shares their feedback.
Hi, when you are working on a car for a long time, like few hours, and your battery is getting weak, what are you using for keeping it charged? A battery charger or a battery maintainer? Thanks

@@LMAutoRepairs hi, can't find in my country ring rcbt27 but found this yato yt-8305 charger...hope it will do the same. www.autodoc.co.uk/yato/13639814
Hello thank you for the tutorial, between the autel 808 mx (maxichek) and the latest Icarsoft cr Max (tablet), which is the one you recommend ??? thank you in advance
For some engines chains are not much better than belt especially aftermarket chains don't last but belts where designed to be replaced easy compared to chains and cost of chain kit is expensive. I don't know how they make engines where chain lasts for ever and engines where chains just don't last at all. And if engine is belt driven the belts should be replaced regularly. For this car better option would be used engine instead of repairing damaged one.
Sup super technician nice work i am planning on buying a autel but there are so many which one you ha e the maxisys mk908p are ms906bt i was planning on testing the ap200 then i realized i need something powerful can yours program key fob
Hi If you want to program keys, go for the IM608... I have both, my main tool, and as per the video, is the MS908P... Great tool, with flashing for BMW and Mercedes... but a bit limited on programming keys... it is not its primary function anyway... Thank you for watching and for your comment!
A bit everywhere nowadays... Everything is built with a certain life span expectancy... save the planet they say...🤦♂️ Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Wenn man mehrfach erfolglos starten geht bei diesem Modell das Motorsteuergerät kaputt ! Hab ich in Deutschland schon ein Bericht gelesen! 5 erfolglose Motorstart und das Motorsteuergerät ist gesperrt
The tops of the valves tend to snap before the pistons get holes. Although I wouldn’t tempt rebuilding the head and taking a chance with the pistons. They do incur damage.
No... Well, was brought to me as I have showed, with the owner saying someone told him was an electric problem... Don't know the rest... Thank you for watching!
Let me tell you why you're never the first one to work on a car. Because people don't take you seriouslly. Marketing is everything. You fix parts that every big and fancy garage would just change. You don't have workshop... All that matters. People are basically stupid and they judge you by thoose things. Main dealers although we all know they are nothing but thieves, they are always overwhelmed by work. I will repeat MARKETING IS EVERYTHING. People bring their cars to you because they are desperate not because they trust you. Although you do the job much better, and I would say you do the job in the best possible way for the customer, that doesn't matter most of the times, it's all about marketing. You will fix the problem they brought car for and after that they'll go back to their garage. Of course that's not always the case but many time it is like that.
I don't know how they didn't know it was mechanical problems that engine you can tell it doesn't sound proper I'm no Ford guy or professional mechanic but from watching Mustie 1 on RU-vid that engine is trash I suspect.
Its probably gone through a flood water and escaped ... for a while and created stress in the con rod and failed Those Ford wet belts are rubbish .... people state oh had the cam belt done .... yeh the dry one .... not the wet one
The original garage it was at must have been some ape when the wet belt snaps u know instantly on turn over it gone have had many cross my path over the yrs as previous guys I won't call mechanics cause there not a first cousin to one have only replaced the top belt too many idiots in motor trade with no qualifications or knowledge ripping people off
