Ford Mondeo Mk4 2Litre Duratorq Fuel & Air Filter Replacement. A few tips on replacing the air and fuel filter elements in a mk4 ford mondeo 2litre diesel.
Just did the fuel filter on my Focus which has the same engine as the MK4 Mondeo, very easy and this video gave me the confidence to do it myself. My old filter looked like the one in your video. It was in there for ~50,000 km. Had no trouble starting after I was done.
Was scared of doing the fuel filter having seen loads of people vacuuming fuel lines and what not on this engine. Your video gave me confidence. Took 5 mins all in. Thanks.
Hi Alan I watched this video yesterday and changed my fuel filter on my 2012 Mondeo Really glad I did as I would have probably made a backside of it if I didn't! Took your advice and carefully levered up the fuel filter cover. Let the filter drain, put the new one in carefully bolting it down and then started the car! First turn of the key sprung into life! So thanks Alan great advice! If your ever up in Edinburgh il buy you a pint! Cheers Fella
Great video, helped a lot and I like the way you do videos . On notice from my side. There is a Pillips plastc screw on the top of the filter housing. After installation of the new filter put out the screw and fill diesel until the filter housing is completely full. Than the moter starts fine. greetings from Austria
The cuts in this video are perfect. I need to start learning how to do bits a bobs because I'm about as useful as a chocolate fire guard (MK4 Mondeo petrol with 115k on)
Hi Alen I followed your instructions to the T. Everything worked out perfectly. I was pretty proud of myself that I was able to do it. Thanks a lot. But I have another issue. I can see small air bubbles in my fuel lines. Motor runs great. Should I worry about this??
The fuel additive tank went dry on my focus cc3. Ford refilled it and reset the dpf but it was 400 quid ouch. How can you tell when this fluid gets low to avoid the engine malfunction light coming on
Hello, does anyone know how to properly change the fuel filter in Mondeo 2011 with the fuel filter in the back under the car? I know how to change the filter, but I am curious about bleeding... Is the bleeding done through the green pipe which is on the left of the engine?
Did as instructed, but went from original Ford filter into an aftermarket cartridge. Learned the hard way that the difference is that the Ford unit has a pipe inside, and it sucks fuel closer to the bottom of the housing, and the el cheapo sucks air above the fuel level initially. That led to four long cranks before the engine finally fired up. It also led to running problems the following day (read: run only five seconds before dying). Solution was to unscrew the plug from the plastic lid and connect a clear hose onto the hole, and suck the air out of the filter housing. Then just start the motor and give it a lot of pedal to keep revs up till it agreed to stay alive. And finally, finish the whole thing with a little bit of sporty driving to get the fuel running and shake the bubbles out.
@@alan4x Thanks again for this Video. I actually had my fuel filter for my MC Tdci well over a year. But I was uncertain weather to tackle the fitment, because of prior experience with bleeding the fuel system.
thx for the video :) i have 2010 mondeo auto trans. i learned that my cars never changed transmission fluid.its 217000 km now.should i change it?is there any problem after change?
Hi Alan! This is a great video, but i need a litle help. How can i drain the water if the engine said "water detected in fuel"? I saw a clear pipe go down, but wich tap need to open?
Great fuel filter change Alan 👍🏻 Your videos are funny entertaining but more importantly helpful. Shame your cars are red as I’m a Manchester City supporter and can’t stand Man U 😩 😆 Great videos on Mondeos as I’ve got at 54 plate one with 160,000 on it so I’m learning a lot from you 😊 Poor badger 😢 Thanks Stevie.
Anyone knows by any chance the part number of the metal fuel filter cover/shield with those 3 screws, please 🙏? Mine is missing , and can't find it anywhere 🙁
Alan, I learned a little trick getting fuel up to the filter housing. Look at the housing cover you'll see a little slot for a cross head screw driver. Go on give it a wee turn " leftie loosie" and you know those fellas who suck out the oil through dip stick pipe. Go on get your sucker up to the filter housing... Gently now or you suck more fuel than fill the filter housing 👍
Hello Sr you are very good profesional.I like your videos .Can you explain me where I can find the PCV valve please.I ve brought recently a Citroen Dispatch 2 liter diesel and I want to change the PCV valve.Thank you very much Sr
Is there a video for the mondeos with fuel filter at the rear near tank. These can be somewhat challenging. Have you done one. Apparently it's easier to unplug fuel lines, plug them immediately as you unplug them, remove the whole housing completely, refill with clean filter and clean fuel, reconnect and fanny is your cousins uncle,
Thanks for showing .does this technique work fo focus 2.0 tech as well as I'm worried about getting an airlock and not been able to start the darn thing .?
The 2L diesel? I have the 2L Diesel Focus which is basically the same engine and I followed the video and it worked for me. Just don't disconnect the fuel lines, do exactly as the video says. You might have an extra metal bracket like mine that you need to remove first. 2 bolts on the front, one nut on the left side. Then the rest is the same as the video.
Oh my god I really wish u cud of been my mechanic, I'm not sure where I'm ment to message u Alan but here I go, lol. I've been having a diesel leak for ova a yr, I took it too Halfords being my close garage🤪, I knw "wrong thing to do" but they hav changed everything other than the injectors them selves it finally they changed injector NUM 1 an put a bit of tpc tape if that's how u say it 🙈, but ever since that I left the garage 2 mins away stopped to put diesel in an then the car wudnt start again🤯, I've been recovered about 5 times now and they can't figure out why the car won't start once it's hit temperature. But now it seems tobe getting really hot and won't even stay on tick over for more fhan about 15 mins but yet I drove down the motorway 40miles an 40miles bk wiv no issues until I got bk an stopped an wiv in 10-15 mins it was sounding spluttery and wen u rev the car it sounds like a over rev web u release the peddle. I really hope u can just say "well yes it's bec of this" 🤣🤣🤣. No honestly it's destroying my mental health it's all I think about plus carwood changed a poorly fitted crankshaft, from wat Halfords did. And they did an oil change which was thick gooey oil they said may not of been changed for 5yrs. An oil filter cam belt water pump kit so I thought it wud be fixed now but took it from them the other day an the same thing again didn't start after I went too the garage straight after leaving carwood and paying them over £1100 which £300 was from me an the rest Halfords bill for messing the car up. But stil not fixed the none starting once at temp. Plzzz HELP ME 😩🙈
Hi Alan Great video. I did service my Ford Mondeo Mk4 2Litre Duratorq make my life a lot easy with with your video. Any chance you could do video how to replace glow plugs on this? I have checked all RU-vid and can't fine anything.
Nice Video ! But how can metal shavings in the fuel filter housing be an indicator for a bad high pressure Pumpe? After the fuel leaves the HP pump and goes trough the injectors, it doesn’t return through the fuel filter. It goes trough that green hose straight in to the tank ? If those shavings really are from the HP pump, they would have to be sucked out of the tank, back in to the filter right ? Cheers 🍻
the fuel pressure in the pump and fuel rail are managed by the pump metering valve and engine ecu....there is a fuel return pipe that comes off that pump and dumps fuel straight back to the tank...fuel in the tank is then drawn back through the filter and into the pump again so if the pump goes faulty and puts metal specs in to the injectors it also puts the metal throughout the entire fuel system
Hello Alan, do you have any tips, for changing the fuel filter, on a 2008 Mondeo 2 litre diesel hatchback. I have watched some videos on this, and it looks a pain.
Hi alan, watch alot of your mondeo videos and are absolutely brilliant, looking to do my fuel filter for a 2013 mondeo, looked on line and are they supposed to be between the 30 to 40 quid price range ? To me seems abit steep for just a filter ? Anyway great videos keep them up
Am I right that there is another type of fuel filter housing for later (or earlier) models - where the top of the housing should be unscrewed? I assume for such matters no other options rather than to unplug fuel pipes from the filter housing, right?
hi, yes some of the earlier models have a filter underneath the car by the back axle. you unscrew the lid with something like a 32mm socket size... because the lid is upside down on the car the pipes are at the bottom of the housing so no need to disconnect any pipes but the fuel system will have to be bled with an air brake bleeder or suction pump of some description
As Alan says. The filter is upside down, so filling it with diesel is out of the question. The system is vacuum fed, so using the schraeder valve to the right of the cylinder head you have to bleed about a litre volume of air out from the rear of the car. Even then, it's a pig to start. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Not a job for the faint hearted.
Great video ! Is it possible to drain water from that type of fuel filter ? At dealer services where the fuel filter is not replaced, ETIS tells the Ford technicians to 'Drain water, if not renewed - Diesel models (with drain facility)'. Is it done via plastic screw on the top of the housing and if so, where does the water drain out ?
yes, the other one is at the back under the car, horrible place to put it if you don't have a ramp, i did not find much about this one on you tube so thought, why not lol
Hi Alan there must be three types then cos on my wife 2.0 focus it as a screw on filter cap you need you undo the fuel lines and unscrew the cap with a 32mm socket and prime it afterwards
Any chance you have further info on bleeding air from the system? I"ve got the filter changed and car starts but can see there is air in the system which causes it to run slightly off and after sitting overnight can be hard to start. I've not had any luck locating a workshop manual for the 2013/14 models which seem to use this different filter (I have a 2010 model as well which has the filter at the rear).
if your car is running any air in the system should self bleed out, if not you most probably have an air leak into one of the fuel pipes...main places to check are the fuel feed pipe from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump..where the pipe connected onto the pump the "o" ring seal could be faulty or if you have a tyre valve in your fuel pipe under the bonnet..that valve could be faulty letting air into the system
@@alan4x Looks like we made a rookie error and damaged the new O-ring when putting in the new filter, put the old one back in and problem solved! thanks again :)
The mk4 2.2tdci has a different filter i think, this one (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Galaxy-Mondeo-S-Max-2-2-TDCI-Fuel-Filter-2008-Onwards-MAHLE-KL581/143518657559?fits=Car+Make%3AFord&epid=249665873&hash=item216a60ec17:g:IKUAAOSw7FRWZv7u) Is the process the same for changing it Alan? Thanks in advance!
Hi I have a MK4 from 2009 is this the same set up? It's a 2.0TDCi 140hp, I kept being told it's really difficult to do however if it is the same set up as this then I'll be laughing. Cheers, Luke.
Hi Alan! I own a mk4 2,0 tdci ford mondeo. I've been using it since day 1. I usually use it for longer trips (50-100km at least. I own a petrol car for shorter local trips. The car was manufactured in 2013 and it has around 80,000 kms. I change my oil, oil filter, fuel filter, every 15000 kms, air filter and dust filter around 30,000kms. I usually rely on Autodata information on maintenance. I have a Haynes mk4 Mondeo book as well but i think they suggest maintenance too often. (~7500km/maintenance as i recall) (I know it only hurts my money not the car ;). Can you give me any guidelines what to maintain on my car to avoid as many problems as possible? According to your experience? My family owns two more Ford Galaxies, so we have some 2,0tdci cars around. Thanks for taking the time making these cool videos!
@@alan4x I tried 30,000km but at around 18,000 km the dashboard alarmed me to check the filter due to water in fuel. It was gunked up badly. So i decided to do it at 15,000 kms. Thanks again!
Hi Alan, as always this video was great. Is this the same engine that I have in my S-max -11. 2.0L Tdci 163 hp? I to want to replace the fuel filter but are a bit afraid och messing up the high pressure pump due to air in the system
Fk, i like your style :D I have Mondeo 2010, 2.2tdci 129kw (Peugeot/Citroen engine)... Can you show, please, how to change this plastic, black fuel filter? How to get air out?
