Fantastic explanation all the way through - Thank you!

I have watched several of these videos and many comments state that they would drain out 5 1/2 quarts of fluid and have to install 7 quarts of fluid to get the proper fluid level. So does this mean that the factory under filled the transmission? Or is the transmission now being over filled? Kind of odd there could be such a difference. There is some fluid in the filter but not that much. Also, I have found that welders gloves help when checking the fluid level.

Thank you for the video and instructions, did you end up putting 6 L in all together?
@mrdiyguy123
@mrdiyguy123 Год назад
I don't specifically recall. My advice is to start with 5L, heat it up by going for an 15 easy drive, then add 250mL at a time until it lands in the middle of the range.

So I put in 6 quarts cold the last one flowed out a little bit, then I got in the car, started it up ran it through the gears, checked it again still a little cold, and it was at the REM came out perfect, thank you

I think you are the first person i found to say that "A is not cold level because it will completely overflow when hot" because I went to the middle of A when running and cold and it poured out when i opened it HOT near 200F. So what you're saying is what i am seeing too. At 166 and idling in park (after going through the gears) it was not overflowing, but way up on the barrel of the dipstick, so i need to take a little out to get into the top of the B range when at 195F, correct? i have a 2016 F150 with the 6R80.

Did you end up taking some out? When cold and running i filled it up to the middle of A. But when its hot at 195 its way above B. Is not overflowing out but definitely above the B mark.

@@j_1one924 i opened it when hot and it shot out. i took some out and added too much then took some out again until i got it right. it was a nightmare.

Hi, I have searched for and seen many videos regarding the 6R80 transmission fluid change, but none show with finger the levels , so it was hard to understand. You pin pointed with your finger the actual levels on the dip stick , which makes the viewer understand better, thanks for that. I had a question though, Total how many Quarts of Fluid did you put in all to measure it till level B with temperature hot ? Also what was the temperature at which you got the fluid to B marking ? I tried searching many places , but didn't find any answer. I would appreciate if you could help with these questions. Thanks.

I am glad the video was helpful. "Hot" for me is defined as normal operating temp after taking it for a 15 min ride on a hot day. I will check if my notes include how much fluid was used.

Here is another tip. When replacing the filter clean the hole in the transmission with a shot of brake clean so there is no oil and the rubber ring has a better grip. Then use green Lube Gard assemblee goo on the contact points of the filter to the valve body. This will hold the filter in place until you can get the pan on. Put the assemnlee goo in the refrigerator for a few hours to make it extra sticky. This product is made to be used in automatic transmissions and will dissolve in transmission fluid. For some reason Ford could not put a screw in the filter to hold it in place. They probably saved 15 cents per transmission by doing this.😑

My 2014 Ford Mustang V6 3.7 has the factory transmission filter. I am worried it might be clogged with metal shavings, etc. My Mustang has 76,000 miles. Should I change the filter? Thank you.
@mrdiyguy123
@mrdiyguy123 Год назад
Yes I would recommend changing the filter at that mileage along with changing the fluid. This will prolong the life of your transmission. If you actually find metal shavings in your transmission filter that would be a pretty sad day. It would really indicate the transmission is on its way out if there are more than a few fine metal filings. Good luck

Thank you so much for responding. The dealership CLAIMED to replace the fluid recently. So I would need to drain the new fluid out to remove the filter? Maybe reuse the new fluid that's already in there? I am not happy about the stealership not replacing the transmission filter yet they charged me way too much money just to drain and refill the fluid.

@@precisiont5188 I had a situation years ago with a Tahoe where I did a fluid and filter change. Once new filter and fluid were installed. I drove the truck and it drove just fine. However I then checked the old filter and found metal shavings in it. I took it to a transmission shop and the owner suggested I drive it for a thousand kilometers then use brake cleaner and very carefully clean the bottom of the transmission pan and blow off any loose debris and then carefully catch the fluid since it was new while dropping the pan. Then I was to change the filter again. And check the filter that had a thousand kilometers on it for additional metal chunks. This process allows you to reuse the fluid. You could screen the fluid before putting it back in but remember your transmission filter has a very very fine mesh so I wouldn't give it another thought. This is what I recommend you do. Also you should literally complain that any transmission shop changed the fluid and not the filter. That's my two cents worth. Please respond back and let us know how you made out.
@precisiont5188

Thank you for the additional information. Are you indicating I should complain to the dealership for not changing the filter while changing the fluid? I had other bad and suspicious experiences with two Ford dealerships already. It's hard to know if it's their incompetence, laziness, or corruption when it comes to a different bad experience.

@@precisiont5188 If I paid for a transmission service and the filter was not changed I would complain. Perhaps call a transmission shop and get their expert opinion on what is considered normal procedure.

Been there, no lift, definitely burned my wrist, sweated out about 10lbs. Was never satisfied with how the level was on the dipstick, so I took it to a shop a short while later for a other pan drop and filter change. Never again with that thing!

I still think removing the trans line and allowing it to pump out is worthwhile... It was able to pump out a little less than 4 quarts...

Also here is a tip if you are not into transmission fluid waterfalls. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the bottom of the pan first, then remove the dipstick, and let the fluid drain out into a pan for an hour or two. Then remove the pan, replace the filter, clean the pan and magnet. Plug the hole you drilled with JB weld, let it set up and replace the pan. Refill with the same amount of fluid you drained out. A cleaner job without all the mess.😊
