Army Infantry Training at Ft Dix New Jersey in 1963 was exactly the same. We ran everywhere for the 8 week duration. If you were caught walking you had to drop and do twenty push ups. Same deal at mess haul. Chin ups before entering every day. This guy is so misinformed it's pathetic except about drafting of marines. Many were drafted into the Marines. Bigoted. Thank you for your service.

@8:00 - 5 minutes to eat. That's to get the soldier used to adversity, and understand that extreme conditions can be overcome, etc.. All to the good. Biologically, though, you have 20 minutes to eat. I got that info from my doctor, who grudgingly explained that I had 20 minutes to eat, after I told her that it seemed that when I chewed my food thoroughly, I became sated (appetite satisfied), rather quickly, and I would be leaving food on my plate, which was a new thing for me. I asked her, "Does the body count the chews?" She told me about the 20 minutes, and that's all she would say. Later, I found out about the hunger hormones, which control hunger and satiation, and that when you sit down to a meal, there are glands that start to excrete hormones, and about 20 minutes later, you'll feel full. I went through 62 years on this planet and didn't know that. I've run this by 3 other doctors, and they do not want to talk about it. Try it. Mention the hunger hormones to your doctor and see him or her changes the subject. It's curious to me because by chewing thoroughly, I ate less calories because you'll feel full in 20 minutes. Over a year's span, I lost 50 lbs., and shrank my stomach. Anorexics chew thoroughly, eat less calories than a wolfer, and yet they get enough energy from food to last until the next meal. Why? Digestion. The wolfer spends more energy to digest than an anorexic. It's that simple, and yet, it seems to be a secret. This info was passed down by word of mouth in Europe, where, for centuries including the 20th Century, famines were to be expected. The hard earned advice passed down was, chew your food thoroughly. I'm down to my basic training weight at the age of 69, and have kept my weight down by just avoiding wolfing, after being overweight most of my life. But to lose weight, you should do 4 things, and you can eat the same stuff you're eating normally, too. [ 1 ] Eliminate sugar, because sugar is a fat gaining experience. After you lose the weight, you can introduce sugar in your diet, again. [ 2 ] Eat plenty of roughage, since roughage reduces the amount of energy it takes to push 2 days worth of food through 25 feet of intestines. [ 3 ] Take a brisk 40 minute walk each morning, 1st thing out of bed. It maintains muscle mass, burns calories and raises metabolism. [ 4 ] Chew each bite thoroughly. It takes time to break the wolfing habit. When you catch yourself wolfing, slow down. After you drop the weight, you don't have to chew so much, but cut down on the wolfing. Also, watch a skinny person eat. I dropped the weight and I ate fast food almost everyday. Try it, it's free. You eat the foods that you normally eat.

@Race problems - I was in the Army, stateside, '71 through '72, and there was race problems. It's tribalism, and it's bad for morale. It wasn't just whites and blacks, though. Stateside, within the 2 years i was in, there were 3 riots on the forts I was assigned. One of them was "racial", at Fl Carson, where, as I was told (hearsay), was between the Puerto Ricans and the Mexicans.
