Ford Powerstroke 6.0: Thermostat Replacement

This is my 2006 Ford F250 with the powerstroke 6.0l motor. It seemed to take a long time to warm up and never really got over 170 degrees F, even on the freeway. Factory Ford thermostat is 190 degrees F. I know this is a 3/4 ton truck, but it also seemed my fuel economy went down. Replacing the thermostat was a simple fix. My temps are up to normal. Warms up quicker. I yet to calculate if I have any improved fuel economy. Thanks for watching and I hope this helped someone.

Thanks for the video, no flashy imagery or music, just straight “tools needed, let’s go” and end result. Diving into mine in the next couple days, thanks again.

Sorry I didn't get to you sooner. Did you figure this out? On my truck the bolts were easily accessible from the top. I am not familiar with the excursions, but maybe the fuel lines are routed differently. Thanks for watching. Please support the channel by subscribing.

Good job on this vidio. I am 75 yrs young and have a 2004 6.0. Your daughter reminded me of my daughter when she was that age out in the garage helping me working on my trucks. She was always with me helping with anything I needed. My daughter is 50 yrs old now and whenever she gets the chance she still helps me fix things. This vidio brings a tear to my eye and I surly miss those days. You are so blessed to have such a daughter. Please spend all the time you can with her for time goes by so quickly. Give her a hug for me. Thank you for the memories Allen.

Thanks for this video. I have a 2007 F-250 Super Duty turbo diesel 6.0 that I am trying to fix myself. I did not have any experience with F-250 and RU-vid has been a great resource. Have replaced starter, IPR valve, fuel filters, EGR system, turbo, injectors, FICM, ICP sensor and a few other things. Learning as I go. Getting a great education.

Mine juat started doing this. My ect would not get 150 but the eot would get upto 169 nothing more. But as i would drive it the ect would drop down to 136. Im really confident that its the thernostat. Also the heater in cab wouldnt feel hot. Barwly warm with fan on high. My 6.0 powerstroke is an 06 with 180k miles. Any advice before doing the thermostat replacement?

Make sure your fan clutch isn't stuck on high. That could cause some low engine temps also. I have found the advice from people to use mainly motorcraft parts, usually turns out to be true. There is a valve that hooks to your heater core hoses. Check that's functioning. Good luck with your repairs. Thanks for watching.

Had my oil cooler fail. The guy didn't fully flush her out so I had a bunch of oil in my degas bottle I tried to clean it out but kept getting a film of oil on top my coolant. I chucked the bottle insta CTlled a new one and preyed no new oil was coming into my coolant . I got just a tiny bit of oil in the atifreeze now.. But definitely worf replacing

If your coolant temp is fine, then I would recommend just leave it be. Although, it is a good piece of mind to change, and not that difficult if you can turn a wrench. Thanks for watching and please support the channel by subscribing.

At time 17:01 to 17:12 in the video you had an extension on your drill. What were your screwing in? I didn't see you using that when you were taking out things?

It was the cold side intercooler pipe to intercooler. Please subscribe to support the channel.

What was your symptoms that it was going bad i just noticed some small bubbles of coolant coming out my radiator hose im wondering if that means my thermostat is bad or the clamps just loose thanks
@allensshenanigans348
@allensshenanigans348 3 года назад
My symptoms were that my coolant temp wasn't getting up to 190. When you say bubbles of coolant, do you mean from your degas bottle? Or do you mean you have a leak?

How long do you let the air bleed out before you put the cap back on?
@allensshenanigans348
@allensshenanigans348 2 года назад
Shouldn't need to more then a minute. Run it with the cap off and top it off if necessary. Put the cap back on and drive the truck to get it completely warmed up. Let it cool back down and then again top it off if necessary.
@AceBoy2099
@AceBoy2099 9 месяцев назад
If you didn't loose any coolant while draining/repairing you should only need what was removed, once running and coolant moving you should be fine to replace the cap, that is what the resivoir ("degas bottle") is for to catch any air and trap it at the highest point (along with fluid expansion).
