My dad called them a clevis too. All the way down here in southern Wisconsin... Maybe more of a rural country/farming term then a regional name for it? In my book Clevis is fine and shackle is good too - I know what you are talking about. If dad wanted a hook he just said "gimme that hook". Shackle was only used to describe what the tax man did to you if you didn't pay on time.

It's likely a clevis in everyone's book!! The ones that are arguing about it, are almost all together devoid of books! They are likely devoid of knowledge of dial telephones, manual transmissions, and Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoons!! Wait til some know it all knucklehead tries to tell you that the airplane couldn't have knocked down the WTC, because jet fuel don't burn hot enough to melt the steel!!

So many people in life forget what it like to help others when you can.You done what a true friend dose in life.Ive got a lot of calls at 2 or 3 am saying hey Bubbie I'm stuck or out of gas came you come to me and I always went because that how I was raised and I would hope that the ones that called me would come to me if the shoes was on the other foot.My dad died 3 years ago at 93 and that just how he raised me.I said all that to say this As a man seeing you do that makes me see there is still some decent people left in life and It make me proud to see someone still care about others in life.

I had a man help me out when I was stranded one time. I offered to pay him, buy his lunch, buy him some gas and he would not take it. He told me to pass it on down and help somebody else out when I could. Those words have stuck with me all my life. That man died a few years ago. He didn’t have nobody but his wife and they didn’t have much. I helped pay for his funeral and bought him a headstone. I had the words, “ Pass it on down, Help someone” put on his headstone and his wife loved it! I’ve helped a lot of people since that man spoke those words to me and I say the same words to everyone I help! Y’all have a good-un!

They are real easy to get un-stuck. Just cut down two medium sized saplings and lay them next to the tires and connect a trace chain between the two saplings. You put the chain as close to the front of the tires as possible. The directional lugs on the tires will catch on the chain. It will scare the hell out of you as it comes out because the front end will come off the ground but it will walk its way out. I would shovel the dirt from the front of the wheels and take the hog off the tractor. This trick has saved my butt many times and is the reason I always threw a chainsaw on the front of the bush hog along with a fifty foot piece of trace chain on the front of the hog. No a Clovis is the pin that you put on the pins when you connect an implement to the three point and flip it over to keep the pin latched. The hook on the end of a trace chain is called a drag or drag hook.

A clevis will have positive engagement with the pin used, threads or a combination of threads, nut, cutter pin. A shackle will have no threads and designed for a thru pin, no positive between the bow and pin.
