I have had a 2019 L1H1 Custom Limited for 3 months and 2500 miles. Best thing I have ever driven car or van. I love this van so much I cant begin to tell you.
I have a 2018 L2H1 (Branded a 340L here in Australia, with some Limited features, but not all of them) & it has the 2L with 6 speed Auto. It is absolutely fabulous & I have done nearly 70000 kms in 18 months or so travelling around Australia for work (& Pleasure) hassle free & loving it. I came out of a VW caddy (Which I loved) with the 1.9 & 6 speed DSG & am seeing similar fuel numbers. I am a convert. The only thing I upgraded was the sound system, & in saying that used all the ford Head unit, just added 2 amps, one each for the competition Tweeters in the original location & grill, & competition 6.5" mids in an adaptor. The door also have quite a bit of Soundmat in them to take the drumming out of the door skins. A 10" Powered sub sits under the middle passenger seat in the underseat box.
Interesting review. But something very important and rarely covered in van reviews that many owners have suffered is van security. How easy is it to break in and steal expensive work equipment or steal the van, catalytic converter or diesel fuel. Are the door locks enforced to stop crowbar or drill breaking the lock are there added locks to stop doors being bent down for entry. Is there alarm options, tracking, phone alert.
@@vanaramauk Thanks Tom, I know tradesman who have had there van broken into several times in one year loosing £1000's of pounds of tools and not being able to work. My van was broken into and I was shocked how easy it is as the metal around the locks is not much thicker than a tin can and needs to be reinforced, these aren't cheap vehicles. Van manufactures need to wake up and greatly improve in many cases pathetic locks with £1000's of tools onboard.
@@raymondrixon2209 Hi Raymond, thanks for getting back. Yes a security utility is the answer. But it would be much easier if they upgraded/enforced/beefed up the locks when they produced/built these vans in the first place and tried to stay one step ahead of the thief's rather than owners having to upgrade the locks/security or find out the hard way. A lovely new van full of expensive specialist bespoke tools getting nicked can be a horrendous nightmare.
been a transit fan had them all m1 to m8 this is the best SO FAR my mk6 was the rust box of the centry had to back the first one after 7 months they changed it for me my mk5 did three hundred and fifty thousand engine was great and gearbox not much rust mainly because it was made in uk i await what this one offers
Tom here: The new Transit Custom is the best yet. It's overall a much more comprehensive and reliable vehicle for a van operator. In 2019 it sold well over 50,000 units in the UK alone. Amazing really.
Have 171reg 130bhp transit with 126000 kilometers and onto to my 4TH SET OF INJECTORS all under warranty, being back to main dealership numerous times so if you're thinking of buying one ask the dealership have they had issues with injectors, like to hear your replies.
When it’s got nothing in the back it’s very bouncy. After having my h2 l1 for 10 months now doing town and some motorway driving. I wouldn’t say 30mpg was very good. Cracking van though. Best on the market. Still room for improvement though.
Had nothing but trouble with mine from injectors fuel pump and now the gear box needs replacing worst van I’ve had for reliability. My old fiat did 200000 and never fail me
Everything you need to know looks great particular version with drawl is an L1H one so that's the shortest length and the shortest height get some nice extra ticket to the first one to notice shrimp around the big blue 2 L diesel engine turn off superb it's just down there as well of everything visibility is superb 16
I can tell you a few things that annoy me and I bought it today and did 200k. On it. First, when you get to 140km/h you get that banging wind noise inside the car with the windows up. That's stupid as hell. Second, The windows mist up on the outside and the blowers don't point to them so you can't demist it and the mirrors become obsolete. Third, it feels quite cheaply made inside even adjusting the steering feels like that plastic crap will break.
Love transits, but one thing I didn't like with this van was the plastic load liner thing. Seems to be made of the most slippy substance known to man, especially when wet. Unless you tie EVERYTHING down all you hear is it sliding about.
Tom here: I'd definitely choose to swap out the plastic for ply-lining or high-impact texturised boarding. Stops things sliding, and also means you don't have to tie everything down (you can get away with short hops). Also, when you lease from Vanarama, we ply-line the vans for free (plug plug).
Tom here: Security on the Custom is good, but I'd always say it's worth upgrading security on your business vehicle - new alarm system, slam locks, etc.
Terrible, since lock down started almost 20 Transits been done in my area half of them not peel and steal either. Considering how rife it is and how long the issue has been known they should have been factory upgraded with multi-point locks and the driver door lock changed out already. It's the most sold van but that's not an excuse, the other brands get hit by peel and steal on occasion but at least the locks can't be well you know having got one!
@@vanaramauk hello, i am call from portugal and i have a litle youtube channel. I like to do the same review, with comercial vans. But in portugal the car brands do not help to do this review. What arguments do you use for brands lend vans?
Tom here: No, it's actually a monitor for an after-market rear-view camera that was fitted to the review vehicle we were given to review. It was a rubbish camera. If you want a reversing camera I'd go for a proper Ford option - they are much much much better.
This will not have aged well. By now the wet belt will have slipped and destroyed the engine.... Ford are replacing them under warranty....3 month waiting time . Local Ford dealer has 12 Van's awaiting engines. My customers van was confirmed as needing a new engine today maybe getting done late September. Is going to VW Van's to look at what's available..
I found it difficult to hear your comments due to the level of the music , the sound levels are almost the same, so at times just become a blah blah blah.
Tom here: Sorry to hear that, Pete. Might be a blend of our levels and your speakers. We have subtitles available if anything becomes too hard to hear again.
Tom here: Now now... the EcoBlue engines are incredibly reliable. Also, if Ford Transit Customs broke down all the time, I very much doubt they would sell in the quantities they do.
Tom here: It's a review/overview. You don't need me rating a van for you, my job is to show you the van's ins and outs and let you decide if you want to research further. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have - I'm a van geek!
Ive had 3 transits 2007 a 2010 and a 2014 now aboit to get the 2019 I had many cars and I always go back to the transit its the best ever vehicle I have owned the its the van that can...
Vanarama very happy with the transit we have it from new still on original engine and gearbox it is a 2.2 tdci apart form a clutch and tyres brakes and it is serviced every 12000 miles with all ford parts😀😀😀😀👍
Considering Ford are the market leaders their after sales care is dreadful A nightmare to get repairs or service carried out without having to wait weeks for a slot and days without a vehicle If they had 24 hour service like Mercedes , Iveco to name a few, I believe they would double their sales One of our transit tippers suffered a seized rear caliber after only 3 months on the road I ended up having to get an independent to repair it at my cost as for safety I couldn’t wait plus I just couldn’t have the vehicle off the road And the hassle to get reimbursed via the so called warranty was not worth it. Never again we have returned to Mercedes simply for the after sales care and no down time with their 24/7 service
Tom here: Again, I've heard this from other people. But, I also hear really great things about Ford all the time so it's difficult to tell whether these are isolated events or more of a pattern.
I've always been a transit fan, I've had the pleasure of time in a very well specced connect limited. Like being in a 2 seater mondeo with monstrous space in the back, ridiculously comfortable! Right now me and my siblings are considering a van to convert to a day van/camper. Obvious choice for most is the vw, a decent set of wheels, lowered and some body changes and they look stunning..... but I think I have talked them into going transit custom instead, you get so much more for far far less!
Best friend who also has a Transit Custom Limited 2016 just gave it to his son and bought a VW Transporter 2019 with 10K. His words were that the build quality wasn't as good, the engine only had 5 speed gearbox which didn't deliver as much power and there were nowhere near as many nice bits/additions. I asked him 'Why the hell did you buy it then'? He stated that he thought that the VW badge made him feel 'cooler'. Can't help some people I guess.
Tom here: You always end up paying a bit of a premium for some badges - Mercedes, VW, etc. And often it's worth the expense - I'm a huge Transporter fan, but the Custom is great too. It's the UK's best-selling van for a reason, right?
Whether A Women or A van it’s nice to drive it smoothly It’ll give you long lasting benefits If you drive it like A maniac You won’t keep it for long 😅 Machines needs to look out everyday Same as A human body How about If a person wake-up Coming out off bed 🛏️ n start running as a sprinter doing 100 m
I Love all My Vans and Minibuses AsF! But Iove My Transits More AsF! Thank You Otosan Kocalie🇹🇷💖😎and Thank You Big Man and People Working at Vanarama! Keep up the good work AsF!👍🏿😎🙏🏿🚚
Lovely review. I bought myself new last year August Limited 300 with 170hp goes very well. There's only 1 thing I really don't like about this van and it's very annoying especially in winter. It's the heater with it's 3 settings. You can't leave it on to blow into cabin, to heat up your hands simultaneously whilst it's blowing on front windscreen. However you can leave it on simultaneously blowing it on windscreen whilst it's blowing on your feet. In other vans you can dial it manually accordingly how much you want to divert the air to hands and windscreen
@@vanaramauk I've got a second van 5 days ago same limited but this time 130hp. But there's no such a thing as heated steering wheel for vans. So big flow in my opinion from facelifted custom van
Doesn’t fit an 8 x 4 sheet in though does it? Unless it’s empty...style over practicality. I guarantee scuffs to your legs and dented back doors in no time. Oh, and wave goodbye to your tools! Ford pride themselves on the worse security.
I wanted to buy a custom but if i want a different colour besides white I have to wait 5 months to get 1 in Australia Insane... But they advertise you can order in 4 colours but no that's a special order FORD ITS 2019 NOT 1920 WHEN THE MODEL T CAME OUT YES SIR YOU CAN HAVE ANY COLOR AS LONG AS ITS BLACK
The middle seat is not heated ! Brake peddle to high ! The storage in the dash is rubbish as it will reflect on the windscreen! The 240 converter is below the hand brake ! ( why ) ???? Stupid place for it ! The locks are shite !
After driving a primastar and vivaro for 9 years. I now drive a custom l1h1. And its very nice. Big mirrors with wideview and blindspot mirror(vw transporter still not:s). Love the dash. The only thing i really hate is the back suspension. Way to light bouncie. With normal construction tools and stuff. Every bump of thing you feel the back bouncing up and down. Thinking of adding backup springs next to the original suspenson. Had it on my vivaro and it drove great.
Yes but hes not telling all the problem these vehicle give . Engine failure . Turbo replacement braking wiring loom , water pump, breather system getting blocked dpf egr getting blocked start stop failure, on windy days doors over stretching causing body repair, leather cheap, power steering leaking , ford dealership so busy with repairs takes weeks before they can diagnose wheel nut need replacing . This is a joke when so many things go wrong with these. In my experience I'm talking about the euro 5 model. It takes the piss when I paid £31000 for 9 seater. Cost of all these repairs is astronomical. I was lucky the engine went 3 month before the warranty went. They use cheap o rings. Oh caliper ceasing up as well. Also they had my vecile for 6 weeks to replace my engine block. Gabe me no curtisy car or any loss of earnings. Otherwise I love driving this custom just build quality is a fucking disgrace.
Your right there mate the Euro 6 is terrible. Got a 2016 2.2 and a 09 vito. Both brilliant vans, Mercs better for comfort etc. However don’t think I’d go for the new euro 6 from ford they are a disappointment to be honest. They are a cheaply built can now, ford don’t care about you once you bought it that’s all that matters to them. Gotta wait 3 months for you injectors to be changed it’s ridiculous
Sorry to ask on an older video but have you driven the auto version? I am put off buying the auto due to it being a dual clutch type and ford has a bad history with dual clutch autos.
Tom here: No need to apologise - glad people still watch these videos - the van is the current version of the Custom. I have driven pretty much every version of the Custom and the auto was a joy to drive - comfortable and effortless. The newer the Custom the better the box will be. Thanks for watching.
Things that let this van down, injectors/adblue issues, hundreds of them buying stored in fields before being sold so they already have body and chassis rust at less than 2 years from manufacturer (not even sold in some cases). & lastly but most know, crap locks by far the easiest van to peel and steal or if someone hasn't had the driver door lock blanked over/changed use that. On the plus side these known issues mean the price is always far less than other Brands and the trim level is higher if you match price to price.
@@vanaramauk No, when you have to add after market locks/ security and reliability into account it's not class leading, it's just a cheap okay-enough all-rounder. Just because it appears good value doesn't make it class leading, just as measuring it on sales volume is a flawed metric due to cost of ownership for a Transit custom is far higher than many of its competitors. Almost no one I work along side or know owns their Transit custom they're all lease, but any other brand tend to be owned outright especially VW Transporters.
Driving company transit custom. First 3 years were really good, but after that problems started. Mot advisery- leaking engine oil, not excessive. Half the engine covered in oil😂 last week lost 5th gear- apparently known issue for these vans. New gearbox will definitely not be cheap. To sort oil leak will also be some cost. Drove other Ford vans (older custom, connect) and they were like problem after problem after another problem. Its crazy how unreliable they make vans these days. Seems like car technology is going backwards. Oh and apprentice wee fiesta 3yo just packed in- engine completely gone, sold it for 500£ to scrapies.. Definitely wouldn't spend my own money on ford trash
Yes I will agree they are brilliant driving vans and really good build quality. But they're not ideal for multi-drop parcel delivery. Continuously turning the engine off and on 150 + times 6 days a week brings up the engine management light on with the message drive to clean exhaust filter overloaded. Heavy on diesel and on adblue.
Tom here: Yep, I agree. That style of driving will put a lot of load on the engine. Although, I reckon the more powerful engines should cope better. Also, I've heard other people say that about the AdBlue - how much do you go through on average do you reckon?
The dash storage is crap the reflection in the windscreen is quite off putting so the 3 compartments on the dashboard top are redundant, the old one with the closing lid was much better, I suppose the decision to ditch the lid was budget driven, not a good one in my humble.
Tom here: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Billy. I've heard similar comments from other people on the van, but it doesn't take much away from the overall package which is highly regarded!
@@vanaramauk Its not an opinion its fact the dashboard compartments are useless in because of the reflections if you have documents in them you can hardly see out of the windscreen I personally think its an health and safety issue.
@@mbingham10 Tom here: It might need a bit of a rethink on the cabin storage... I'll admit that much... but again, I'd say the overall package is a top choice in the market.
I drive a new Merc Sprinter for work, and this Transit seems far more highly specified and for a cheaper price! The Merc has not even got a left arm rest.
Would of prefer to have a card holder hider under the gear stick instead of another cup holder... Think they had this in the transit range from the previous models. Also annoying that they have ramen away the hinged flaps on top of the dash board as on the new models of the transits these exist and hide things like sat navs, running leads etc but now it looks untidy!
Tom here: You've got some good Ford van knowledge there... the card holder was right underneath the radio controls in the old model. And it is odd how little things like wire hiders are missed when manufacturers stop putting them in.
@@vanaramauk it would of been nice too have these old features come standard in the new customs transits. Also you have you press the unlock button inside on the door to open the rear doors about 5 times to open it 🙄 I have a 68 reg work van custom eco blue limited version
Tom here: That's great to hear. I'm a big fan of the Custom. It's solidly built. It's a shame other people don't have such great experiences with them.
@Graham P Jolly Tom here: Apart from working for a leasing company? Well, there's the significant savings, business benefits, predictable costs, the ability to change vehicle every few years without any worry of depreciation, etc...
@Graham P Jolly Tom here: Where to start? When you lease a brand new van you only pay for the period of time you own the vehicle (2-5 years), not the whole outright price, so you spend less for it and won't be hit by depreciation - you just give it back at the end of the contract and upgrade to the next brand new van. Brand new vehicles are also covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so if the worst happens & something breaks you won't have to shell out your own money to have it fixed (depending on the terms of the warranty). Also, because the van is brand new, it won't need an MOT for the first 3 years so you don't have to spend on MOTs. Road tax is also included in your monthly payments already. If you're VAT registered, you can claim VAT back on your monthly payments. In most cases, leasing will offer the lowest up-front initial rentals (deposit) and lower monthly payments than PCP contracts.
@Graham P Jolly Tom here: No, we're not saying there's no point in buying one. We always say that leasing might not be for everyone, but as a leasing company we're always keen to point out the financial benefits of a lease over buying outright. Our account managers can go into huge depth if you'd like our office number?
Great review! I’m having trouble deciding between the Transit Custom and the Transporter T6.1 - any insights?? They both drive great when I tried them!
Tom here: I'd go for the Transit Custom for sheer all-rounder wallet-friendly performance. But, if I had a load of free cash, I'd get the Transporter on the side.
@@vanaramauk if budget wasn’t an issue, would you prefer the T6.1? I think reliability and robustness would be my priority, they both drive great and have enough gadgets for my needs, I’d like to just have one last me a good number of years with no dramas
@@D_L_J_83 How many T4/T5's do you still see on the roads. How many Transits of the same age? Same goes with the newer Transits - longevity isn't something you get with them. Not to mention the added cost of 3rd party security.
@@effervescence5664 I think there are more T4/T5’s here in Australia but maybe not by much there are still heaps of Transits but not the Customs, but it’s just dominated by the Hi Ace and iLoad here.
