Thank you for this video (and others), i just got me a 1959 Dexta with lots of annoying little leaks. This gives me good courage to get on with it and replace those brake axle seals.
Hi Lisa! I have three Power Major Fordsons. Is your Fordson an earlier one from the mid 1950s? Mine are in Canada and I buy most of my parts from Agriline England. I have replaced the double clutch in my first tractor building a jig to support for separation and a jig for aligning the clutches to go back in. Later I found a Nuday tool for the same thing. Have you split your tractor? You keep it in pristine shape! I recently put new axle bearings in mine and also checked the lower bearings in the PTO drivetrain. I replaced the two back to back seals that separate the transmission fluid from the trans hydraulic fluid. Ford had two designs. One took a single double lipped seal and mine took two seals facing opposite directions. I wonder whether the raised PTO controlled which set of seals went in. Anyway it would be nice to hear from you. I admire your mechanical knowledge and not being afraid to tackle tasks on the tractor. I presume you are from England. Where exactly? My tractors are in Ontario. Thank you!
Hi Garth. Yes i did split the tractor in 2009 to do some engine work and the clutch was fully rebuilt with genuine parts at rhe same time. My major is 1959 so half way theough the production span but it has the later oil filter and lift pump set up. I try to keep it presentable and it lives inside here in the uk. I live near the sea so have to keep it tucked away. I still have to go inside thw gearbox to do the handbrake discs and then i will seperate the back end. I will have to oull the bull shafts out at some point to do the inner seals. The outer ones have been done already. I made a spigot tool for my clutch when i did it.
Hi Lisa I find that the gearbox and backend seal doesn’t always leak ! I always find it’s the pto housing at bottom of gearbox change that first see what the oil levels do after
