theres different ways of saying this to make the student learn. what he was trying to say was that he is rotating through the hip on the wrong axis ... everything is twisting vertically at the hip, but he needs to twist from the ground and up through the ball and then land on his left leg. it did get better. interesting content!
The female coach wanted you to square your feet on the FH (even on the step around) now you’re square and Tom wants you to transfer weight back foot to front foot. I like Tom’s coaching and multi ball. The FH flick to BH drive looked tough! He had you on hard mode 😅
Haha you watched my vids! Yes I noticed that too how the advice is a little different between Liu Juan and Tom. Putting my left leg forward definitely gives me more power which I like.
You can also train the flicks with a basic return board thousands of hits vs just a few at $80.00 per hour it's the only way unless you can afford 2-3 times a week because that is what it takes to see any improvement in muscle memory.
which catching is better to do to increase rotation - thick or thin? do you think that for a stronger rotation you need to catch the whole ball or the top part? I want to add rotation for the safety of hitting at the beginning of the attack from the left
For more rotation or spin, it’s usually a thin contact, but then it will be slower. You can also have a spinny ball with a thick (more direct) contact if you are using your body. I guess for safety, have a good balance of thick and thin (this will be a direct contact with some acceleration to make spin)
during fh flick and bh drive, I found your body leaned backward to do the bh drive shot. I think after planting your left foot when jump back, you should maintain your body posture and lean forward to make the bh shot, so the shot is more stable with more power.
This is really interesting. I have a similar problem with my forehand. I do use my legs and waist, but I rotate too much with my feet and how body (similar to you, I would say). How much do you pay for the coaching with him? (he gives really good advice and I feel like what kind of technique you are striving for.)
You can do it to all serves if you are fast enough and good enough to predict and read the spin. Probably not too much against heavy underspin because it’s hard. Light backspin, no spin, sidespin, topspin serves can all be flicked
@@GravitySix-G6 yes you will need to make slight adjustment of course. For example against topspin you don’t need to brush upward as much, you can just hit it forward, but for backspin you have to wait and then flick up and forward
hip rotation for fh is too much. stop that hip rotation earlier so that the force can be 'propelled'/ transferred to the arm. It'll make your fh even stronger and faster to get ready for next shot
I’m trying that recently, I realized I need my paddle more open to have a more direct contact. This allows me to use less hip rotation as long as I’m moving close to the ball
