Fun fact: the actor who got his head blown off during the live fire exercise and the actress who blew his head off fell in love onset and are still married to this day
A lot of people on their first watch miss that Zim was Rico's drill instructor. He was told the only way he'd see combat is if he busted himself down to private. So that's what he did, and ended up being the one who captured the brain bug.
You two are absolutely adorable and hilarious! Shying away from the shower scene and yet still peeking! Hahaha Congratulations on the 50k! You deserve ten times that many!! You are the absolute highlight of my day!!😍😃😃
The second Paul Verhoeven film that Movie Munchies reacts to. Consider another Verhoeven film called "Total Recal" (1990), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. An action and science fiction classic.
Young people often have their dreams changed by the real world. The shower scene was to show that as soldiers they are all equal, they are all brothers and sisters, they all share the same risk of death, it builds camaraderie.
"Pumpkin Soup". LOL!!!!! By the way, congratulations on the 50k subscribers! Next step is 100k!! I think by mid-July, you will get it. Good work and love your content.
Even though this is one of the most enjoyable reaction channels right now they are not going to hit 100k in 6 weeks. End of the year is a good shout if they keep the content coming.
@@evilsmurf2k8 maybe but as of now, they have been doing about 1k every two days. Even if it slows down, they will get it before the end of august. IMO
The book describes a world/society where people do not automatically gain citizenship at birth, whether due to where they are born (soil) or the citizenship status of their parents (blood). Citizenship, and thus the ability to vote and determine law, can only come from having *completed* at least 2 years of military service, which is voluntary. The characters discuss the merits of this in their high school government class, and the story seems to imply this type of rule by military veterans is both a superior form of a government and possibly necessary to survive major conflicts, such as an existential one against a hostile space enemy with superior forces like the bugs. The movie seems to satirize this by accentuating some of the absurdities as well as the military uniforms which look very reminiscent of Nazi uniforms, hence the criticism of fascism. (Apparently, Heinlein believed in something like this, and later generalized the acquisition of citizenship to any civil service-teaching, law enforcement, other governmental jobs-but only after completing said service, so current military still cannot vote until they leave. The idea is that such individuals demonstrate putting society's needs above their own. Johnny states to his teacher his understanding that this is supposed to be the reason. His teacher asks if he actually believes it and Johnny replies he doesn't know. Presumably he has accepted it and become a bleiever by the end of the story.)
Someone may have explained but "having chow" is another way of saying "eating". Chow is the noun, "chow-down" is a verb sort of..."chowing" would just mean eating and so on. It's sort of an English language slang word/phrase. Apparently it came from the Chinese (Cantonese) chauu or something like that which means to fry which was picked up by Americans when Chinese immigrants came to the US throughout the mid 1800s.
Love watching you ladies react to movies. You are all so lovely and funny. Very good movie knowledge as well and so pure. Keep up the great content girls! 👏❤
You girls are so enjoyable to watch !! I love your reactions to many of my favorite Sci-fi movies...you're so fun and smart...and also very cute !!😘😘 Always be safe and take care...sending love from Chicago, Illinois USA 🇺🇸 ❤❤💞
This is a movie is not about being fascist. They really don't show any. Using a 'stick' to force someone to agree or comply, that's the origin of 'fascist'. At least when I looked it up in an old dictionary. New dictionares are FOS
Its not that the characters are optimistic, they're just brainwashed. The fact that they are willing to die for a cause they don't understand, is proof that they are naive and taken advantage of. And by the end of the movie, they have essentially just replaced the elders before them that died, because thats all war does to people.
Hello Chi & Hella, nice to see you ladies!😊 This film is part of the director Paul Verhoeven's unofficial trilogy of futuristic violent films. You ladies have seen two of those films, this one and "Robocop". The third film is "Total Recall" (1990) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.😉 You ladies are great reactors, and doing an excellent job!🏆 Great reactions to another violent Verhoeven futuristic film, Ladies!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
I hit the Like button... I'm Doing My Part!!👍🏻. Luv when Hella and Chi get into the fights in the movie! They really express themselves!!! And the remarks by Hella-"It's like Pumpkin Soup..." Haha lol Chi always cool, calm and collected except during love scenes... She's all blushing and modest! 😍😘. Luv it when Chi cheers for Love! ❤️ All Passion ❤️ Thanks for sharing Chi and Hella ❤️💛 Luv Movie Munchies 👍🏻❤️
Those plasma firing bugs are directly inspired from certain ant spieces which use their abdomen as guns to fire acid, the other difference is that their position should be reversed because firing by not facing your target your don't see what you are shooting.
The original book also had the very first " exoskeleton " fighting robot tank suit, Before Gundam, Before Iron man. Also Heinlein wrote the book in an alternate universe where the Nazti Party eventually took over the world. (The military ranks and uniforms were all a variation of ww 2 Germany)
I loooooooove this movie!! It's one of my favorites! :D I remember first watching this as a youngster and being straight terrified1 xD hahahaha, I had to have been like 10 or 11 years old. So freaking young. :P I enjoyed it then, and love it now. :) Solid flick and one that I watch with all of my friends as often as I can. :)
There is more of this universe but is animated and not the same, this movie is very satiric and helps a bit with horror and violent aspect, it stands the test of time.
Alien race called the Turians from the excellent Mass Effect scifi game series pretty much took alot of their culture from the human Federation of this movie.
I enjoyed your reaction, as always! There's a lot to think about in this movie. The director, Paul Verhoeven, lived through terrible violence as a child during World War II. After seeing so much violence, he became very anti-war. When he read the original book Starship Troopers, he disliked it in a lot of ways. He thought it was pro-war and (like you said) fascistic, since the book supported a society in which you can only vote if you serve in the military. So you can almost see the movie Starship Troopers as a reply to the book. The story is basically the same as the book, but the director showed a different side of the story. The violence is tragic and the war is actually senseless, because there's no way the bugs could have sent the meteor. The humans were the aggressors and the bugs were just defending themselves. They may look gross to us, but they're intelligent aliens with their own society (you noticed them playing and trying to communicate) and the humans want to kill all of them. That's part of what the director wanted to show in his version of the story. And the commercials in the movie make fun of propaganda and how the government can lie to people. A lot of audiences didn't realize at the time how the director really felt about war and violence. But since then, people have watched the movie more carefully and they've seen more of what the director intended.
And the movie isn’t the same as the book, you spoken like someone who never read the book. And there isn’t only white people in the federation like the movie portrayed, there was a lot of diversity. Rico is not supposed to be white, he’s supposed to be Puerto Rican.
@@CrashNTheBoys2002 I didn't mean to say the book and the movie were the exact same. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear! The story of Rico is told from a different perspective in the movie, like I described. The plot is roughly similar but the movie approaches that basic plot very differently. I'm not sure why you're mentioning racial diversity in a reply to my comment.
@@edwardlwittlif because this movie is nothing like the book, if you read it then you would know. Paul said it himself, he didn’t read the book. His opinion and take on the book is a bad one and stupid. And to go make a movie that spits in the face of Robert is just despicable. He completely trashed his book without reading, that tells you enough about a person.
@@CrashNTheBoys2002 The director did read a substantial part of the book and then asked his writers to outline a plot summary of the rest of it, in order to form his opinion. Frankly, I have a low opinion of the book, too. I think restricting voting rights to only those who participate in the military is an awful idea. So I think we just disagree, fundamentally.
@@edwardlwittlif If you don't know the difference between life and death why should you get to vote? The vote should be earned not just grown into by doing nothing but living to see days pass you by, regardless of how you pass those days. Saying that I am staunchly anti-war and even more so anti money. But then in the movie it seems that money is not the main motivation for war as it is in our time and place. One thing that always bothers me with people who claim the bugs are not smart enough to hit earth with an asteroid is that in their next breath they attack the Humans for being hateful towards the bugs. So which is it. The bugs are stupid and incapable or are noble, poor misunderstood victims. Both conflicting ideas seem delusional.
I’m glad y’all watched this movie. It’s one of my favorites. There are sequels but they’re not as good as the first one. Honestly I don’t recommend watching them. I guess another fun alien movie I recommend watching is “Battleship” I look forward to your next reaction. Keep up the hard work.
14:18 Hella, Chi, haha... If it makes you feel better, yes, Boys and Girls showering together is also awkward for Westerners. Usually they don't, even in the Military. This is just an Exaggerated version of the future, where because they are all Military/Marines, its no big deal. They are taught to be tough, and have no embarrassment or shame... they are all equal, they might have to fight and die together, they can't feel awkward seeing some boobies or butt cheeks, haha. More important things to worry about... if that makes sense.
@14:30 LOL! That's not the future. That's normal in most of Europe. There are lots of unisex nude beaches, public baths, pools, and saunas. People get naked even a the park sometimes. Mostly just topless.
The fiddle player is Jake Busey son of Gary Busey certified CrazyMan of Hollywood hes in Point Break w/keanu reeves (✔️it Out Fantastic Movie) & tons of others🌎📽️🎶🎶🎶
Great!!! I was able to watch this before it was taken down. One of your best reactions to date. I find you are positive about all the movies you show. Do you have favorites, maybe you could do a tier reaction show to let us know what you prefer. If you enjoy everything, you enjoy nothing. Love Movie Munchies!!!
There are sequels to Starship Troopers, but none of them are directed by Paul Verhoeven, and none of them are based on a novel because the novel had no sequels. You don't need to watch any of the sequels.
Dont r-ead 'the book' that this is based on. If you wanna read some classic sci-fi from the same author I would suggest - Stranger in a Strange Land Read it many moons ago when I saw it in my Jr. high/Middle School library and checked it out(pun intended). Cant make a movie from it. A week long mini-series. Yes. I love the ending. Very 'Frank Capra'. P.s. - the author is Robert Heinlein
Hey ladies I just wanna say I love your reactions they're fun to watch and I love this movie very much the sequels not so much but soon there will be a video game coming to playstation 5 of starship troopers with the real voice of casper van dien jonnhy rico ! I'm excited I started this comment to give you an interesting fact... the man in this movie radcheck... is played by Michael ironside this man is a legendary actor even starring with Arnold schwarzenegger in total recall... but Michael ironside is a legend in the gaming world aswell because he is the original voice of Sam Fisher in the splinter cell games of which there is talk of a splinter cell movie being made.
