Every July 14 in Paris, during the parade on the Champs-Élysées, the soldiers of the Foreign Legion are among the most anticipated. Of these soldiers, we know above all the feats of arms in the most dangerous theaters of operation on the planet. For months, we have followed the scenes of their selection and training. These new recruits learn to fight, to live together and, above all, to unite. But at each step, the aspiring legionnaires risk elimination. Director: Frédéric Cristea

What i love about the legion, men who could not communicate and could possibly be enemies under other circumstances become both allies, brothers and unquestionable loyalty. Every single man there is a volunteer. There are no conscription. Every man chose the legion.

It's a lot better today compared when i did it. Government did a heavy crackdown after people died during training and just brutal punishments being thrown around. You had beatings and 2-3 hours of sleep during basics with people hallucinating and what not . We had more than one just breaking and more than one person being sent to a mental felicity. You can train great soldiers without breaking them. Glad to see it has moved forward and i hope it's not just because cameras are around.

I was there in 2017. I only saw beatings when people really fucked up or answered back. Group punishment was still there, but a fist to the stomach once or twice a week really didnt bother me. We had one guy breaking mentally during the farm, but he was shaky from the start. The training is hard, the discipline is hard and, food is scarce and sleep is rare, but everyone but 2 guys in my group finished the Kepi blanc march. I think we had 4-5 hours of sleep every night at the farm, night patrol duty included. It was manageable.

After all this shit then they got a wake up call of note when they reached their combat regiments😂😂 months more of shit they never expected. This is only the first phase of training, basically an intro to drill and basic weapons handling, bit of tactics here and there but nothing too hectic. Once you reach your combat regiment you go through basic training or instruction as they call it. It's also possible to drop out at this stage. But it's much more tactical, you know how to march and how to sing like a knob. Now you go through the different weapons introductions and training. Much more specialised training and they weed you out once again for various specialist courses etc. If you're shit then say hello to the kitchen, if you're good then there some awesome options.

In the US Army the instructors cannot have anything in their hands and play with it, because the distraction it creates. I got gigged on this and for having my hat on the cargo pocket the first day. I also warned the students not to overeat. If anyone fell asleep, they would spent 15 min on the front leaning rest. Of course when I turned my back to them, they would put their knees down and I always made it clear when I was turning, so they can get up and think, they got over on me. Eventually I got their attention and they no longer fell asleep.

Does anyone know which regiments any of these guys went to?

How would anyone know that? And it isn't public info either
@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692
@@ykjo5613 well on the off chance that someone is an active legionnaire here, they might recognize one of these guys. I'm so glad I was never filmed for any of this shit, I can't imagine the shit you might catch. One of my Sgts from Castelnaudary (where this takes place, well rather the farm of the 2nd company where you do your 1st month of basic, I was on that same farm, ferme de cuin) later on became a Sgt Chef and thus 2nd in command of the platoon and was in a documentary (Sgt Chef Cho).

Going to go out on a limb and say that this looks like an extremely watered down version of what their training was really like. Didn't even see anyone crawling through muddy rivers.

Yeah .. I was watching this and just thinking .. if these guys went through BUD/S their heads would pop off. There has to be more to this legendary outfit than this.
@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692
@@THE-X-Force it's just the first 4 weeks of training, there's 3+ more months of basic after that and only then do you get assigned to your regiment for further training, and lots of it.

Once they received their assignment in one of the foreign legion regiment they will start the real combat training. Eventually they will follow the jungle training in French Guyana and the desert training in Djibouti, some of the toughest environments in the world.
