@@one.2622 This isn't about everyone knows the American flag. This is about literally everyone knows the French flag and the South African flag and the Swiss flag. All of those are among the easiest flags to remember.

USA has left us good memories, the national parks were outstanding and people were nice. We plan to come again someday

First of all, as you mentioned, he is giving them the opportunity to introduce their country, and second, not everyone has all the flags memorized, so he probably doesn't want to guess. Worked in a boutique in France for years. The best tourists or people to walk in were Americans. Not because they bought anything, but because they'd look at you, talk and treat you like a human being. It was always a pleasant surprise because other nationalities would barely reply when you said Hello.

Same experience. Normal Americans who visited the Philippines were some of the most genial I've ever met. Except for the sex tourists and the liberal-looking ones, there's something not nice about them.
