Most of the elevators in Finland are just like everywhere in the world. Elevator company "Kone Oyj" is from Finland. It's no. 1 or 2 in the world on their own field of expertise lol.

"Sauna in Finland is like a religious thing" Girl, you have NO idea how right you are. Sauna DOES have deep religious and spiritual ties to Finnish tradition as well as culture. Until relatively recently, most people would have been born in a sauna as well as died in a sauna, which makes sense as it's the cleanest place in any household as well as simplest to wash down. Old Finnish paganism doesn't have any churches, so all the holy sites were natural formations such as large boulders, large trees, or a large body of water. If a Finn doesn't have any such spiritual sites nearby, they could always just retreat to a sauna to have their spiritual moment. In a public sauna, once you enter, you enter naked and leave your previous life behind. In practice, this means that the biggest CEO is equal to the dirtiest coal miner and the most famed general is at the same rank as a day 1 private. The only ones who outrank others in a sauna are those who maintain it, so if you break the peace of sauna, they could throw you out. Sauna is still of course highly social place as well, just not a place to conduct business, politics, or any other such matters in. So yes, to a Finn, a sauna is a perfectly suitable substitute for a church, hospital, pub, or just about anything you need it to be. And yes, saunas are inhabited by spirits and elves for protection and health in the old Finnish beliefs.

Scariest thing to happen in Finland was the time someone tried to hug you because he was drunk. 😂 That pretty much sums it up. 😂

Great video and all the info was correct. One thing though: sidewalks are being plowed before pebbling them, otherwise no one could walk in the snow. Pebbles just prevent falling on slippery surface. Other than that, incredible Finnish skills in 18 months 👍👌👏

Mahtava video :) Awesome video. I’m Finnish but I have also lived in Texas and now living in Caribbean. I have to tell you have really learned the key points of Finland and Finnish people. Lohikeitto is my girlfriend’s favorite Finnish food too. She’s from Guadeloupe so there’s huge cultural difference. And your Finnish language is awesome for only 1.5 years! Kaikkea hyvää sinulle ja olet aina tervetullut suomeen!

Really fun and upbeat video, made me feel happy! Thank you! The elevators though are like that in the center of Helsinki (or inserter any old city here), because of the old buildings :) We have regular modern elevators too (KONE is a Finnish company), Most of the old elevators are being retrofitted where ever it's possible. :) The thing about the sauna is, it a place to be truthful, because you give up all the titles and undress it all (work or other power over others) you might have. The thing there is; we are all sweating in a box equally, speaking man to man, man to woman, woman to man, or woman to woman. No badges, no pretence and absolutely nothing sexual. Just words. Some try to bring their work shit in to the sauna, but they leave without it. I can't speak for everyone, ofcourse, but I don't care about correct grammar or syntax or what ever, I do understand you. It's not about perfection, it's about communication. We understand it 100%, it's not a big deal when you don't get it 100% right. It's amazing to us that anyone could learn our language. The only other language I know how to speak is english (not at all perfecly, i know that, but I've not met a person who cares about that), that said; you don't want to know how my Mandarin sounds like; spoiler: It's REALLY bad. :D

I've met a lot of exchange students, immigrants and other foreigners in Finland. Yet this is the first time I've heard a foreigner complementing finnish food. Sure, a lot of people like karelian pies (karjalanpiirakka) but actual food, like soups? Most describe them as being "just okay" or "bland".

Sauna is tradition... but it's washing, bathing. Showers are a new invention. To properly enjoy sauna, it's better to reserve an hour or two for it - so many people settle for once a week. The rest of the week just taking a shower. Sauna washes you more thproughly, because you sweat the dirt away from deep within your skin. And then you wash it away in a shower or by swimming etc. But there actually are people who take sauna almost every day, 5 days a week maybe. Just I think that would dry the skin for most of us :)

Hi, I work in the elevator business. Most elevators in Finland are the same as anywhere else in the world, whether it's made by KONE, Schindler or Otis. What you're describing is an old elevator found in older flats for example but modernization is possible to those as well if wanted.

I hope you stayed in touch with the old lady in the train. If she gave you her address, she really wanted to stay in touch with you. Riisipiirakka is actually karjalanpiirakka, or karelian pie. It is from east, area that used to be Finland, and is now Russia after the WW2. People fleeing from the war brought pieces food culture that stuck and spread all over the rest of Finland. Good pronancuation of the letter "R"!
