Props and much respect to John Waite for declaring at the 19:12 mark that "we have no brass section, orchestra or backup singers and we are on a budget" etc. and then just banging it out live with no lip synching, no running backing tracks or any smoke and mirrors! They could easily cheat and enhance the sound and harmonies with a cheap laptop but unlike many bands nowadays have chosen not to fake it. Thats worth the price of admission right there! A live show should be a live show!
I'm 39. My dad taught me alot about classic rock. I love listening to all these bands. Grew up on records,8 tracks, tapes and cds. My daddy used to quiz me on music all the time. It was like name this band or tune
@@lory1770 my brother went to Pensacola to see RUSH AND when I seen him he couldn’t stop talking about Tommy Shaw. He said it was a Styx Show and Rush were nothing like Tommy Shaw
If you're going to call out tribute bands, then you might as well include Styx. Only one member is original and that's J.Y Young, who sang Miss America. The original bass player Chuck Panozzo comes out for a song or two. Technically, you can actually name a number of bands today that are tribute bands with maybe one or two original members.
@@mohlman5411 True. They were always Mick Jones' band, anyway, and he was in right up until he couldn't do it anymore. I can understand finding it hard to listen to them minus Gramm, but he's been gone for a long time now.
@@leekinanus7409 I agree. Most people believe Shaw's presence in Styx was from the very beginning since their popularity was due mostly because of his contributions.
❤ I'VE LOVED YOU JOHN WAITE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD U SING!!!! YOU'RE VERY SPECIAL TO ME. NOT ONLY GREAT PERFORMER BUT YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL IN EVERY BAND U WERE IN. ROCK ON CAUSE YOU R MOST DEFINITELY AN ANGEL FROM GOD TO ENTERTAIN US. U R A ROCK GOD. GOD BLESS U AND YOUR FAMILY AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!😊🎉❤🙏🥳💕😘

John Waite Rocks .as a musician myself see his value.saw him outdoor concert downtown Orlando around 2012. Great entertainer and has a great band.he is solid
2 great classic rock and Roll bands who always put on a great show. Tommy Shaw an amazing singer. All great musicians. Thank you for entertaining us with great music to bee bop to
Ty for posting this. I had plans to see the show last night and they were scuttled at last minute. Foreigner and Styx were the 'soundtrack' of my late teens and early twenties. Getting to watch your generous upload healed my FOMO. Great job.
I have all the baby's music along with both Bad English albums & everything John Waite has done in his solo career. So awesome to see him still putting on a great show. Class act all the way!
Indeed, but the original could never sound this good 40 plus years later. Appreciate it. BTW I seen the original band for 8 bucks, along with Travers and the Rails.
I was at the Budweiser stage a few days ago in Toronto Canada to see John Waite and foreigner those two were the opening acts for Styx I sure did see Styx at the Budweiser stage in Toronto on June 14
I agree with all the John Waite fans, Foreigner and Styx are shells of once great bands. As for John Waite, his voice has aged very well. The Doctor would have been there but I would have left after John's show. Plus the fans seem to not know that they are seeing a living legend.
Styx playing Lorelei and the oldies set list is freaking awesome. Open with Grand Illusion, then Lady next. Clearly throwing bones to the die hards. Major props since most bands who have been out of the spotlight for a while feel compelled to play hits for fan engagement. Makes me want to catch a show if they get close.
I saw John Waite a few months ago. His voice was amazing. Really tight band. When they broke into Whole Lotta Love it blew me away. Music just isn't they way it used to be.
Interesting that Ricky Phillips who played bass in John Waite’s Babys back in the day just recently retired as Styx’s touring bass player after many years with the band.
John Waite turns 72 in early July and he looks and sounds amazing. Whow! Without Mick Jones and Lou Gramm it just isn't Foreigner. These guys are just keeping great songs alive in our memory bank. Singing old Styx songs without Dennis DeYoung just isn't right.
Jon is washed completely a snooze fest of zero energy...sad, Foreigner is kicking ass covering the tunes and Styx is Amazing, Dennis quit and is a d bag lol
McGowan is so good, I gotta say I don't miss DeYoung near as much as I would Tommy or JY. He sounds like he's pretty insufferable anyway, and the band is far happier without. Kinda like Skid Row and Bach.
Kelly Hanson has been the lead singer for years. Just because Jones isn't with them doesn't make it a tribute band. Hanson is more capable for performing than Jones anyway. Keep rockin' Foreigner!
I agree. You're going to pay a high price for this tribute band. There's a band called Double Vision that is a tribute band and they sound great. I think they sound better than this Foreigner band. The tribute band called Double Vision has tickets at a much lower price than these guys. In fact, it only cost me $66 for the Double Vision Foreigner cover band, and they sound just as good if not better. You can search for Double Vision on RU-vid and watch their performance at Daryl's House. If you play at Daryl's House, you've got to be good! LOL
@@6345788Since they only play songs from before Kelly Hansen and Jeff Pilson I would say that yes they are a tribute band. If they played some songs from "Can't Slow Down" then you may be able to argue that they aren't a tribute band, but when nobody in the band originally played on any of the songs in their setlist that makes them a tribute band.
Hello from france bonjour 👋 de france et merci beaucoup pour ce partage ❤😊 bon dimanche 16 juin 2024 .il est 6 h du matin Paris s'éveille 😊 et chez vous ? Salut merci
I just want to thank you for recording this and sharing this with us!! We didn't get to see the concert and was very bummed we missed it and finding out we can watch the whole concert right here was just fantastic!! Thank you for being dedicated to recording this!!!
I used to sneak in my Kodak disc camera to concerts cuz it was small. 1 roll of film took 15 pictures. And it was an inexpensive camera so if security took it, it was no big deal. Now half the people watch the show thru their 3 inch screen.
Might not be the original Foreigner but it was a really good show. Should've played a Dokken song since Jeff Pilson is probably the longest standing member.
Saw them at the HOB many moons ago with Jason Bonham on skins. I thought it was interesting that Pilson was playing bass and Kelly Hansen from Hurricane was singing…80’s metal musicians. Mick Jones was still rocking on guitar then.
@@simonajugarih3620 A tribute band is a cover band fella. They just choose to cover one bands music. So why not have a some fun with it? Plus Pilson actually played on those Dokken records. Don't be a sour puss.
@@RyGuyLikesFrenchFry ok, look it upp, a cover band plays different bands' music, a tribute band plays only one band's music. Get it? So, they are a tribute band now, if they play Dokken, that makes them a cover band.
@@RyGuyLikesFrenchFryKelly makes the audience think it's the same band up there since 1977 and the same band being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at that point of the show he needs to point out not one of them on that stage sang or played on any one of Foreigner's hits.
Dennis Deyoung was a showman and was Styx. He's not there and it's not something I'm going to pay to see. Gratefully I saw them numerous times in the 70s when they were in their prime. Just my opinion. Don't hate me
Foreigner had great songs back in the day but not one person on that stage was on those recordings…not one. I saw them about 10 years ago and at least Mick Jones performed at that show.
Um...check your ticket! 3rd Eye Blind is on a completely different tour and playing today (June 25th) with Yellowcard & Arizona. John Waite will be playing, with the other bands, tomorrow (June 26th)
Only interested in the great John Waite but sadly his backup band doesn't rock hard enough to do The Babys material properly. I do appreciate the upload.
Styx still brings it through to the inspired performances of the actual songs they've made a part of the rock lexicon. Waite was pretty much a journeyman solo dude after The Babys and he can still bring it from both eras if at a more mature clip. Foreigner may, at times, sound right but somethings off. I think it is in the case of Foreigner a pure money grab. Save for Lou and lynchpin Mick they were never too much of a "face" band, but even so this just has a kind of hollow feel. I don't mean to be negative, but if I saw them I wouldn't feel like saying I just saw Foreigner. A good tribute band in my reckoning, but in no way Foreigner.
thanks for sharing. John waites voice still sounds good as well as tommy shaw voice from styx!!cant compare foreigners voice or band to anybody as the whole band is just a cover/tribute band anymore.
I'm 64. loved Styx back in the day. However, I can't watch all the bands that I loved as a teen preform nowadays. They are washed up and should just ride off into the sunset!!!! I prefer to watch videos of them back in the heyday!!!!
With Tommy Shaw, Styx is still as good as the past. Its amazing how they went on without DeYoung. Deyong was and is still amazing, but Styx have did just fine without him, and Shaw taking over. Get over it and enjoy how great Styx still is.
That's the great thing about them still touring. You can sit home in your underwear and listen to your old 8 tracks and I can go sit out on the lawn in a warm summer evening and listen to some kick ass live music! It's a win - win!!
@@zimfan101 I saw Peter Frampton in 2007 jamming with the Cincinnati Symphony. So I'm not against watching "old" rockers perform. I'm soon to be 65! As a matter of fact. I have watched many a Styx concerts when they were much older! I guess I came across as not liking any band in their older years! Sorry! There is nothing like the 70's rock band my friend! ROCK ON !
I often wondered how they split up royalties with these partial bands. Who owns the names? Do original writers and band members get royalties/paid even if they are not on tour?
I wish you had enjoyed the show not looking through your phone. These recordings mean nothing to me. Poor sound and video. But Ok I do sound for a living so its normal I rant ....
