When I was in 3rd grade, we had an end of the year party where everyone had to bring some type of food or drink. My Mom made Lumpia which to me was super common at our house. I was embarrassed and asked my Mom “Please , Mom can I just bring a bag of Doritos and a 2 litre of Pepsi?” Of course she said no so I went to school with a tray of Lumpia and to my surprise no one laughed at me, the just ate all of it. Then my teacher pulled me aside and asked me to ask my Mom for the recipe.

My mom told me her parents were very busy when she was younger. They had no time to pack her lunch for her often times because they had to leave very early for work. She can't cook dishes at that time and only knew how to cook rice. What she did, she spread the very hot steaming rice on the clean banana leaf, put 1 or 2 eggs (uncooked, shell cleaned) in the middle and wrapped it all up. By lunch time at school, the egg will become like soft boiled. If she doesn't like soft boiled, she will crack the egg (for it to cook better by lunch time) still in the middle of the very very hot rice, put some salt, sometimes she will add bagoong.

Good afternoon, I'm 56 yrs old at present, your video is so funny. I did not experienced to use lunch box because my family is poor. I remember during my elementary grade my mother wrap my food in banana leaves. My food before was rice and fried fish, or fried dry fish we called it " Tuyo in Tagalog". Pag walang ulam, my mother put a soy souce and a little oil in that rice. We have no money to buy fish. We called it poverty, I study hard in order to find a good job. Unfortunetely I did no finish my 4 year course because of hardship. I'm only a working student I only finish 3rd yr college. Luckily I found a good job and a good company. Both of you are lucky coz your rich. In my case poverty and hardship is my inspiration to continue dreaming. As of now I have my own family with 3kids. They are all professional, I'm happy to tell that they are mabait na Bata in Tagalog. I told them to help the needy and don't forget were they belong. I'm very happy that you chose Philippines as your home, everyone is welcome in our country. You Pilipino are crazy, even we have hardship in life we are always smileng. Injoy your life her in the Philippines good luck to your vlog Ang your every day Life. God Bless 🙏😇 and keep safe the virus is everywhere.

Oh memories. When I moved to the U.S. I remember bringing mongo to school. Yup kids made fun. So never did it again. Until Senior year when I realized my Mom's left overs were much better than school cafeteria crap. Started bringing in Corn Beef, Apritada, Adobong manok, Kaldereta, Menudo. I just stopped caring what the other kids would say. That's when I made friends with other Asian kids, and we just started sharing stuff. Learned to eat Korean food, Bulgogi, Bi Bim Bap, Japchae. And mind you this is back in the early nineties. So culinary awareness was not a thing yet. These days though when ever I'm in town my 12 year old nephew begs me to make pinoy food to take to school cause his friends get jealous when they see home cooking. How times change.

Regarding trading of lunch pack, most Filipinos are sharing each other's viand. When someone's viand is better than the others, the owner is offering it for a taste. During ny childhood in our province, most children lunch pack using the banana leaf. My grandma put the banana leaf to fire forfew seconds for the leaf to become more sturdy. When you open the food, the banana leaf adds some aroma. If you are familiar with dried fish, I used to have dried fish as my daily viand which is inserted in the middle of the rice, sometimes with salted egg -it is the egg with red or maroon like color. If you're viand is chicken or pork, you look like a famous star.

I usually put my lunch box in my bag. Once I experience in school that after I put out my tupperware with lots of rice, I reach out for my ulam within my bag, then I realize, I just left it at home. :( What I did was, in the canteen we usually have a free soup, so its a good thing you're friends with them, filipino generosity as always. So that's the first time I realize I could have a daily soup that is out of my baon from my nanay. Funny but real story of mine that gets me thinking out of the box really... :)

Ah, Bosnian moms sure are similar to Filipino moms. I remember getting the same lecture: It's not the fault of the rock that you tripped. You tripped because you were stupid.

I love storytelling with Nelly.❤️ more jokoy reaction videos please.. i think Nelly is a living proof of how women give you two emotions at the same time “cry and laugh and do the fanning of tears” oh you have to react on that from Jokoy as well.😅

I remember whenever I come to school, I always bring my lunchback with Sunnyside-up and tocino on it so that my recess time would be more satisfying. I miss the old days.

Latino families are also never going to buy actual Tupperware. We’ve used butter containers as well. You’re told “there’s some rice and carne in the fridge in the container”. You’ve gotta open 39048390 different containers to find the right one(s). LOL! Love it. Jo Koy is absolutely hilarious and I’m so glad you get to experience Filipino culture! Like Jo Koy says, Filipinos are the Mexicans of Asia lol
