Wow, you've now tried foods from different regions: Bacolod food at a Filipino barrio fiesta, a potluck at the beach on All Souls day, got a sample of Pangasinan food courtesy of Rick John, and now sampled Ilocano food at Vigan. You've sampled a good portion of foods in different regions of the Philippines. What's next? Kapangpangan, Bicolano cuisine?

"Knorr Sinigang Broth" is always used in any kind of sinigang because it has all the flavor of typical sinigang. You can add meat, fish or shrimp plus some vegs like string beans,okra and sweet potato tops or Kangkong for complete recipe. fyi only.
@ronaldogatmaitan1549

ilen faust that’s the short cut in making sinigang, traditionally we use the real tamarind to squeeze that broth or sourness you desire!

Wow you guys are lucky to be invited in one. The Bagnet is normally paired or eaten with KBL(tomatoes, bagoong made from fish, and onions). The empanada normally have cabbage, egg and vigan longganisa(garlicky longganiza) inside.

I miss royal bibingka. I was scared of the old houses in ilocos sur when i visited. My cousins kept on scaring me saying there were ghosts living in the old house. That they can feel something when we were about to sleep. 😂 Those were the days.

Hey Nelly and Mike. The bibingka you had in this vlog is called royal bibingka. its a specialty of Vigan. The one you had in Via Mare is Bibingka Cassava (Cassava is a root crop). The bibingka that becomes popular during Christmas time is called Bibingka Galapong (galapong means rice flour). This one is served/sold simply as "bibingka". Via Mare serves the latter as well all year-round. There are other variants of bibingka all over the country

Behind you that is above the wall and the windows are from seashells . The original woods used for flooring are from narra tree (national tree) n some houses foundation in supporting the upper part of the house are from seashore sands and clay. The Spanish houses had a strong foundation because the materials used could withstand strong wind n typhoons. This is the reason why the Spanish houses n churches still exist as of today.

Old houses like that are scary because they seem "alive". Whenever we're over my grandparent's house, I get hyper aware of the sounds at night and old houses like these are always creaking all over the place and shifting from the wind. It's weird how I'm an expert at subconsciously zoning out the ever-present hum and drone of the metro but the geckos making their "tuko" sound scares the crap out of me every time. There is also always at least 3 altars with statues of Mama Mary, Baby Jesus, and adult Jesus and countless crucifixes scattered all over the place and it's eerie how they always seem to be looking right at you and especially at night when it's dark and light shafts and shadows seem to always align to achieve maximum creepiness. Old houses also have this distinct smell to them. My grandparents' house has this nostalgic smell to it of candles and sampaguita from the countless leis draped around the many Mama Maries and Santo Niños and the smell of the wax used to keep the old wooden floorboards so shiny you can see your reflection if you look at it from the right angles. This made me want to go back and visit, now. I haven't been there for over a decade after my lola died. My mom's old nanny lives there still and her family have since moved in to take care of the place for us. We talk to them often and nana keeps asking us to come visit. I think it'd be nice to come visit for a few days over the Christmas holidays.

the physical body dies but strong emotions remained behind sticking to the walls,floors and ceilings of old houses. it is crucial that people living in a house maintain a happy, cheerful disposition always.strong negative emotions such as hatred and anger sticked fast inside a house for a very long time and this is felt by sensitive people.

Here's a language lesson tip. The Thai word "mi", Chinese word "mein", and the Filipino borrowed word "mi" all mean the same - noodles. Hence, you will hear of the Filipino types of noodles, known as lomi, mami, miki, etc. And you're already familiar with the Chinese lo-mein and chow-mein noodle dishes, and some Thai, Singaporean and Malaysian noodle dishes that have the word "mee" or "mi" in their names ( mee krop, hokkien mee, etc, etc).
