Go to buyraycon.com/xiaomanyc for 15% off your order! Brought to you by Raycon. My friend @jessesteahouse is an improbably famous comedian in China with millions of followers on Chinese social media. But he also learned a lot about tea while in China and now actually has his own tea business, so let’s go brew some tea in the park and practice our Chinese with the elders! We brew a traditional Chinese tea ceremony called "gong fu cha" 功夫茶, which literally means "kung fu tea."
In addition to RU-vid, you can follow his tea stuff on TikTok here: / yourteaguy
And he sells tea on website here: jessesteahouse.com/
And he also has a Chinese comedy channel here: @jesseappell6674

@@Tom-rs7gf Just learn a foreign language. Most aint that hard. The mistake most people make is trying to translate everything in their head. You have to step away from that asap. Alliance Française in popular and everywhere. Instituto Cervantes can be found in areas with many Spanish and if you are into that and lucky you may find Instituto Camões or Società Dante Alighieri near you. Others are Goethe-Institut and Nederlandse Taalunie that mostly sponsor lessons abroad so they are very hard to find, but I did find them very helpful.

@@pauljones9150 no. Alcohol is effects your GABA receptors and is a CNS depressant but tea/coffee/etc (caffeine) are stimulants. It’s not quite as simple as alcohol slows you down and caffeine speeds you up but it’s a fairly accurate TL;DR. Also giggling is usually a side effect of huge dopamine hits or increased seratonin. He was giggling because of the social interaction and not due to a small dose of caffeine lmao. I consume between 300 and 1200mg of caffeine a day (way more than seem here) and I don’t get giggly. The title hints at the fact that learning a language requires more than learning how to speak in a way that the person of the other language understands you, and being able to understand them; which are great achievements in themselves. It also involves getting to know the customs, accepted norms of said culture; In my experience (I only learned one other language), being able to communicate to others in a language you learned elicits such a sense of pride; but, when you start to be able to communicate with those people around their cultural beliefs and customs; that's euphoria; you started out learning their language, and you end up feeling like you are actually 'part' of their world, and to your delight, you start seeing things that you were probably blind to before. And that opens you up to a lot of relationships that might have been slightly out of your reach before. It 's like you suddenly acquired a new superpower;

It just sucks that a lot of cultures, and specifically Asian ones, are adverse to fully accepting foreigners. Places like Japan and Korea are notorious for it. You could be a resident of Japan for 30+ years and literally have a job studying Japanese history and culture, and it doesn't matter. You will always be an outsider, a foreigner. This is my bias as an American, because we pretty much don't care where you come from here. If you can speak our language competently and can hangout with us without being awkward, you're American. As long as you're not a supremacist about your home country, we'll gladly claim you as one of our own. I wish more countries were like this. It's just so disheartening to travel and always be looked at like some kind of animal in a zoo. Like people go out of their way to make sure you know you don't belong. You can visit and spend your money, but you can't stay.

I love how respectful you are to elders. This is lost in the US. Very sad!

Like when we found all those doll heads and then we had a party, PopPop gets to have the most doll heads, out of respect! Even though he puts them in his mouth. I think he forgets the rules sometimes.

It's how he got started. There's many many vids of him shopping and going to different Chinese establishments and shocking them with his perfect Mandarin.

That was so good. I agree with the others who say more elder videos or elders telling stories could be quite epic

Tea drinking is an essential part of the culture. Enjoyed hearing the Mandarin and some Cantonese that was spoken during the interactions.

I always watch these videos with my partner from Jinan. We find them very entertaining watching the aunties and uncles talking with you. It's good to show respect to your elders no matter what culture they are from.

More than half of the men in China smoke, they're the #1 consumers of tobacco. Frankly I'd be more surprised if he didn't smoke. 😄

You should try learning Finnish. I imagine it'll be difficult to find Finnish speaking people in New York but there's a Finnish minority in Michigan's Upper Peninsula if you're able to go there. Or you can get in contact with a TV channel and do what you did with Norwegian.

Apparently the tea is slightly hallucinogenic as everything seems to get all curvy and you lose the ability to look at people where they are.
