Gary, loved the light hearted review, makes a pleasant change from the serious, no nonsense stuff on youtube. Your not alone when it comes to forgetting things unable to remember what a doo berry ought to be called. That log splitter looks worth the £ saving your back and energy. Making us laugh is a skill you naturally have. Wishing your family stay warm, healthy and loved with a peaceful Winter.

The revelation for me was swapping from an axe to a maul. No more trying to yank it out of the chopping block. Combined with a couple of tyres surrounding the chopping block so the pieces don't fall everywhere. That being said, give it a few years and maybe I'll be on the market for one of these ;)
@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD
@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD 4 года назад
hello, im going to seem real dumb now, i had to google maul ! yes i can now understand and see the difference. ( an axe shape was just an axe to me) I will keep a look out for one of these at our country boot sales that we often visit because i do feel that an emergency backup is always handy, Hand tools can always get you out of trouble when the electric ones break down or until i have fixed them !. in the past i was using the axe and every now and then had to do the huge yank to free it. thanks George, you have taught me something new, take care and enjoy the brighter weather that is about to arrive !

Hi Gary. I hope all is well with you. That looks like a decent bit of kit, other than the guard as you say, it seems sturdy. The main thing is the time and effort it will save you which will be great and you keep the seasoned logs coming in. Haha! Yes indeed- who does write the script? Lol! Good luck with the new kit, I'm sure you can use the time and energy saved. You mentioned cold weather, we have had cold and dry and a little sleet this week but today it is siling it down. Livestock fine, my few cows are out during the day and they come on at night, of their own accord- they are well trained! Thanks for this latest vid. Have a good weekend and take care. Regards. Getting old sucks eh? I had about 5 ton of wood from an 100yr old Ash tree we had taken down, I wasn't looking forward to splitting it with the axe so we bought the little brother to that the FM5.Put it all together and after 5 mins threw that guard away like you said its flimsy and the first log that jumps out batters it anyway. Other than that they're good machines and can punch well above their weight especially on the knotty stuff that an axe won't touch. Me and my son usually run it together one loading one working the machine that way you can soon get through a lot of logs.We left the doobry where it was as you can then put two logs in together so there's no lost time.Just make sure you get it at the right height for you (no bending over) or your back will ache just as much as with the axe ! Happy Splitting mate.

We actually bought a MANUAL hydraulic splitter years back. (We haven't heated with wood for the last few years because of the state of our chimneys in this "new" home, but I still have the splitter). It works on a duo of hand levers that you pump back and forth to move the splitting wedge. Rather like a bottle type of hydraulic car jack. It is actually easy to move the levers... even an old badger haired fat granny can do it. It splits the wood well and saved me a ton of time and injuries I am sure over the years we used it. When I first bought it cost was the key reason, but I also came to like the fact that it worked quietly and with no needed energy input other than a few energy units that I probably needed to expel anyway. I used to split our wood needed a day or two supply at a time. I could split enough to heat our 1300 sqft home for a day in a little under an hour and that was with several tea breaks. The hardest part of the whole job was moving the wood on and off of the splitter.
@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD
@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD 4 года назад
hello, its always good to hear from you, im now having a little kick myself moment, i was looking at the lever splitters, i thought that they might make my arms ache quite a lot, but after you have described them they do seem a lot easier than i expected. i also like purely mechanical equipment, the reason being is we have quite a few power cuts here. Im also thinking if i had to have a neighbour it would be you, ha ha, your an oracle of homestead ways ! thanks very much, have a great weekend and take care

Hello Nick, i do watch a lot of RU-vid videos that others call conspiracy theories ! ha ha and get a lot of future predictions and advents way in advance, then i can make adjustments here to still thrive. I'm not that clever on my own initiative ! Ive also just started watching Gerald Celente for economic events ( march madness is here ! ha ha dont trust banks to look after your money and i have not for the past 4 years, stash the cash else where ! ). Being ahead of the games they play can make you continue to prosper. Energy prices will continue to rise for at least 6 years or until more nuclear power station are completed in the UK, along with food, the worst is still to come im afraid ! my goal this year is to put up more solar power, battery banks ( a house with no bills ! ) and grow even more veg than previous years.
