Our story follows the trail of real forest mighties, in which the main characters are the greatest Polish predators. In search of traces and signs of their existence, we travelled through Polish forests with a calendar of the four seasons in hand.
With undisguised pride, we called them the 'Big Forest Five'. These are the three largest predatory mammals - the brown bear, wolf and lynx, and the two largest birds of prey - the golden eagle and white-tailed eagle.

Wolves are my favorite animal. I watch everything I can about them. The pack make sure the pups get food. All the wolves help to feed them. One or two my stay at the Den to help watch them while the rest go and hunt. After about a month they come out of the den and start looking around. But they will not go hunting with the pack for a while yet. After they come out of the den after 4 or 5 weeks they will only go back in the den at night to sleep. I love how all the wolves help to take care of the pups. They are amazing animals. ❤

Please note that the current Polish government uses natural resources, e.g. forests (unprecedented cutting of trees even from old forests) to satisfy his populist policy. Soon such documentaries will be historical films.

WOW I've heard things in this video I've never heard before. Like Ravens are called Wolf birds. A heard of deer called a swarm. And a den called a burrow. This is all new to me.

Quite magnificent! How it makes me wish that our forests in Britain could boast such breathtaking natural riches. The thriving forest ecosystem has once again been beautifully captured and described in this superb film. I hope the protection it is afforded and the nurturing of the foresters will long continue. Here government, private landowners, industrial farming and developers all combine to marginalise Nature, and cyncially suppress attempts to protect it. We do have some well-supported conservation charities, but their efforts are dwarfed by the deeply entrenched anti-Nature forces aligned against them. I commend the Polish people in still protecting their precious natural heritage.

Absolutely stunning! My question, since when have these top predators returned to these forests? And since when have the bison and wolves been reintroduced? And is there a healthy population of beavers? I wonder if all or most of the keystone species have returned, the health and diversity of the forest must have increased enormously. Is there a lot of data being collected? Sorry for the many questions 😅. Just so exciting to see all the legendary species. Tnx for the hard work, great documentary.

The good condition and population growth of individual species is closely related to the legal protection of these species. European bisons are almost extinct in Poland, the population was completely rebuilt after World War I and they have been under protection since 1938. Beavers are doing great in Poland since they cannot be caught and killed. They were also protected after World War I. Wolves have been protected since 1998 and recently there has been a significant increase in their population in Poland and the prosperity of the population. Each species also needs a feeding base. When food becomes scarce, growth will stop and the situation will stabilize. In Poland, most bird species are also protected and it is a pity, that they die during flights in countries where there is no such protection and they can be hunted.

I had no idea Poland had such an array of major wildlife. I’m wondering if Ukraine also has this sort of wildlife and how they are surviving the devastation.

Poland and Polish forests are very 'nature' attractive. Ukraine was, unfortunately was, also a very diverse and naturally rich country. The war caused great damage to the natural habitat and contamination. Regeneration of the environment and nature in war-torn areas will take decades.

In Ukraine we have a great variety of different habitats, some of which are pretty unique! And yes, the war hit it pretty hard, especially those in the north, east and south. Not only all the war action and occupation influences animals badly, but in some natural reserves russians started hunting animals for sport :( However, pretty recently, a bear was spotted in Chornobyl exclusion zone for the first time in a long time! It gives me hope that nature will heal with time ❤️

I have never heard of a deer herd being called a 'swarm' which is a term used for a gathering of insects/ or bees. Otherwise a very interesting video. 🤔
