We wouldn't be able to enjoy all the Swing Out Sister incredible music without the master mind behind it all, the pianist and composer Andy Connell. He is easily the most underrated great songwriter and arranger of the last 35 years.
I drive rideshare part-time during the evening in Arizona driving folks to the restaurant or the bar. I have a chance to share Swing Out Sister from my car's Spotify account and people absolutely love them as do I. I love ALL the excellent performers who combine their talents to create a unique pop/jazz sound that I never get tired of listening to. Thank you SOS!
The musical instincts within this band, particularly Corinne and Drew, are so toned, sharp, and constantly searching. Love how they continue to take their old songs and revamp them to the point to where at times they're unrecognizable, yet still retain the core essence. They'll be in Chicago in July '14 and I'm going to try everything I can to get a front row seat.
I am years to late. Discovered Swing Out Sister recently. Ever since I discovered them it has been like I am back in my youth discovering 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, 40s music again. Thank you for posting this. This is why I want to be a Musician, to feel the music, to feel what this band is feeling. Thank you. 🙂
Sweet chord changes - gorgeous tune! I like how they kept re-arranging their tunes to keep them fresh. Unbelievable band! What the rhythm section is playing is fantastic.
Very, very good ! With my compliments ! Especially the end is great. You can go on with that for about 20 minuts ! Sounds great ! So, ...close your eyes , and listen ! Thank you for this !
Wow! What a gem - thanks for posting it. Forever Blue was one of the best songs by any artist during the last 30 years and the subsequent instrumental strings mix of it was a sublime piece of music. This is a very different arrangement but it doesn't diminish the song in any way - rather it illustrates what depth the song has. Great vocals here too. Singing in this kind of setting is where any flaws in a singer become very evident and can't be hidden. This song isn't the easiest to do in a small room at low volume either. There are parts that need to be sung with power but the power also has to be restrained at the same time. Both girls were great though - 2:13 - 2:26 is a prime example.
TheSmithDorian i dont think so. The are good singers, but not that great. And that specific part is not thaaaat hard to control. I think that there are pop songs out there way harder than that. Anyway, this is really good music
Listen to this kids. No auto-tune and engineering of the voices. It is called TALENT! And I think that is George Hart on drums. For a while they just went with the percussionist who is very good but glad they added a drummer.
Nice stuff. I'd love to see them come out with a new project. They are probably my favorite band/duo (or at least right up there) -- such a great collection of diverse music over the years.
That is seriously awesome killer version of that song. I would really love to see them live. That bass player has a seriously great groove. I would give my brothers kidney up on e-bay for a band like that.
Thank you Geresende! A wonderful and rare, rare treat. An actual rehearsal shot by the same person that uploaded it! My favorite group. How did you manage to make it into that room?!!!
Wonderful arrangement! Keep growing! (P.S. I've dreamt of playing trumpet for you since the '80's. I've actually played for a certain group written in the background of your video....)
I'm sorry but the black beauty just left of her steals this show. She's sings the higher part and gives this song it's groove. Plus she has a very arresting smile.
Yes, a far better vocalist but Corinne is the original. Back in the 80's it was more about style than vocal ability - Corinne exemplified style!. Swing Out Sister were musically inventive and stood out as being more jazz orientated. It's not a competition - if it was Corinne wouldn't have a better vocalist next to her on stage. More power to her for surrounding herself with tremendous talent!!!!
Idk. This is not a hard song to sing, and the parts where they sing togheter are armonies...i m pretty sure that she is great (and technically better), but she is not the main singer of the group
Siempre he pensado que la música de Swing out Sister es bastante fina. Aquí reafirmo mi pensamiento y más por el pequeño tributo al trío Azymuth que hacen al final con su tema Last Summer in Rio composición de José Roberto Bertrami.
I am in agreement with Brian Williams Id also give his brothers kidney on eBay for SWS, Corrine is awesome but Id put a ring on Gina Foster in a NY minute, shes all that and a bag of chips
Find out for yourself and groove please with respect .You do not need to scratch any records just press pause and repeat, All the time in the world.Dear learner. You got it lucky.!.ps,minor 7th augmented mode... by the way.. Shit hot drummer!. And the Singers...Well !!. LOL!.
Corrine is awesome as usual. But, I detest this arrangement. The original is so much more pleasing & plays much better with her voice. I know original songs are always changed up in live performances, but, IMO, this is not a winner.
I dont like this new arrangement (is at least 4 yo, i know). It takes away the softness and nice calm vibe from the album version. This is too much “pum pum tss tss”
