For anyone who knows J1mmy on RU-vid (any Old School RuneScape fans out there?), you'll know what a great guy he is. Great videos, a great sense of humour, and great lawn appreciation. So, who better to have on the show than J1mmy! We had the pleasure of running into J1mmy and Flutten in LA (at the Path of Exile 2 Play Test) and are pleased to be able to continue the conversation of his first-time-ever-playing-PoE experience. Great podcast, first time here. Been playing poe and osrs for a while. Definitely had to watch since you had J1mmy on. I had no idea there were that many base types in the game. 600 is crazy. But i wonder why they dont just consolidate all the base types into just longsword, axe, mace, etc. Then they just add an orb like "orb of implication" or something that changes the base and just weight them by rarity. Make base drops rarer at that point and loot would be much better imo. Idk much about this. It was just a thought I had while listening

On the topic of filterblade; they offered Neversink a job in the psst but he said no. Basically, they cant beat his day job salary and he doesn't want to move to NZ. *Also there are other people who work on the site with him. Johnathan has spoken aboit 3rd party stuff. Basically atm, GGG can't make anything a feature compleete or customizable as the current 3rd party stuff. So they feel like itd be a waste of dev time to make something worse than what we already have.

Interesting! I didn't know that (about the job offer). I really hope that isn't Johnathan's attitude though. The vanilla experience is always important.

I went back and found Kripp's Burning Discharge build videos from open beta. Don't tell anyone this, but people were having fun even though it took 10 minutes or more to clear a map! Blasphemers!

Did we say those things? We've probably made reference to the end game and skill tree, we've definitely never said don't attempt without a build guide, just that they are useful. The 'real' game is definitely different and subjective to everyone

@ForeverExiled Sorry, Jimmy referenced someone saying the skill tree thing to him and it set me off on a rant about other dumb things the wider community says. I should have made it clear it wasn't about anything you've said. It's badly worded. I'll remove it.

@ForeverExiled PoE has been my favourite game for over a decade, but man it has flaws. And it really looks like PoE2 is addressing a large number of these flaws. But it worries me how much the vocal community might get in the way of this. Case in point is how so many people have been judging the speed of an endgame they have never played. The PoE community is known for being welcoming. But it also feels kinda gate-keeper-like to me. I realised while listening to the podcast that this is cult behaviour through and through. "Come in, come in, we really want you, but these are the rules and this is the way that you will enjoy this."

@@briefmortal11 Totally. I'm excited for the changes GGG want to make to their game but I'm also nervous that they'll take too much stock in the opinions of players that don't have the full picture (non-employees). I'm sure it'll be fine.

I wonder if GGG fixed active skills onto the weapon as an implicit, would that help the functionality of each weapon for new players? So you never have to worry that Glacial Hammer needs to be used on a hammer cause it will be there implicitly. Then it's all about socketed support gems to customize its functionality. Weapon swaps would function as skill swaps, which is kinda the direction they want to go anyways I think.

I think if they fix it to work similar to how poe 1 works now, if you have a 6 link in the chest and use a weapon that can't do that skill the skill just can't be used. I think it has to be an oversight to make it where you can't equip the weapon, it just seems clunky this way

I love the idea for helping fix items. Remove base types, add runes weapon modifiers that give the same effects. People will pick up runes like currency, just cause modifier stuff is always fun and good to have. While simplifying the base types will drastically reduce the drop pool and allow the game to drop less items, but more probably usable and useful ones.

As some one who has extensively played rs and also has a few thousand hours into poe i think i can try to give poe players a good reason why people play osrs. Just like in poe osrs has probably the best sense of progression of any game, osrs has an insane amount of content and end game content. Osrs has the best economy and trading hub(ge). Osrs despite the point and click nature of it has a way higher skill cap and the end game bosses are much harder than anything in poe. Osrs can be played in many different ways ranging from super afk to mega try hard and everything in between. Osrs despite being having way more simple gear than poe has a lot of "build" variety for things like pvp. Osrs has THE BEST wiki on the internet of any game. I know by first glance it may be hard to see whats so special about the game but even some of the top poe streamers like zizaran steelmage tytykiller all have played and love osrs.
