Dave Baker makes all the historical weapons that Wil reveals. That's quite cool actually

I love that a lot of these guys seem like they're just hobbyists. They step up to the plate to compete at an elite level, some of whom have never made swords, minimal time to build, and even when they break (which happens, it's art afterall) they've still all made gorgeous pieces. Taking shop class out of high-school is the biggest wound American education ever suffered. It shouldn't even be an elective. Every sophomore or junior should spend a whole year making things. The competitors are gracious with each other, you can tell Doug is having a blast cutting pigs in half. 10/10 this show is underrated.

Ah, Charlemagne's Joyeuse, "the sword that conquered Europe". Forged by the blacksmith Galas, which took him 3 years to finish.

You know you're in trouble when the test guy start saying "what i like about your sword" to your opponent while your sword's comment was "Let's talk about youe sword here"

I also love how the sandbags don't have to be swinging bit Doug just wants to have fun

I always love these finalists where they both make incredible weapons and the judges have to get really specific to make an assessment. Two really incredible swords

I'm bingeing on this like anything. Since last 2 days I've seen almost 70-80 episodes.

Appreciate the clips but I rly like the informative clips which explain the different blades, shapes & process. I hope to see more of it on YT & or the show in general.

I always make my predictions based on who's is lighter during the kill test. They win 95% of the time🤷

I gotta point this out as a HEMA nerd, sorry. Shields were (almost) never made of metal. heater shields, the style we see in the video, and shields as a whole were usually made of wood, rawhide or some combination of the two (unless they were small like the buckler, or used for a specific purpose like the rotella). this was a) to keep weight and cost down and b) to ensure an enemy's blade would get stuck and give you control over the weapon. the idea of a metal heater shield likely stems from the fact that *sometimes,* very rarely, they would have a thin sheet of steel on the back in order to fortify them for cavalry use and such. however, again, this was very uncommon, and you certainly never saw shields that are all metal like the one in the video. I say these things because a wood shield would have not only been more accurate, it would have been a more interesting test. you could test the durability of the edge against the steel helm, then test the durability of the blade's body against the shield. this is because when a sword enters wood (or any material), and the edge alignment isn't robotically precise and perfect, it twists and flexes with the force of the strike. a good blade will spring back to shape, while a bad one will suffer warps. otherwise good episode tho

If I had been the looser on that test, I would have asked Payton if I could hold his sword for a moment. ….. just so I could get the feel of how my next sword was supposed to feel.

Honestly the sounds of the Cicadas and locusts is one of my favorite sounds. If you catch the 2 seconds, you catch it. Reminds me of visiting my grandpa in Arkansas every summer. With his passing a handful of years back, this sound brings back all the memories. Also, anyone hear mitches blade hit the ground on the third test?

As a French XD the "Joyeuse" isn't pronounced correctly but they feel so proud to say the french word XD they just accentuate way too much the u and don't pay attention that the EU is a sound of his own

The dreaded H word. Heavy has killed more blades than the strength tests at this point.

I cant stress it enough its always the weight the handle and the balance so come on guys. If its your first or hundredth sword or knife it should always have these properties.

Carcass cut is interesting, just like in every episode. Armoured segment is also looking good, as that is relevant to the swords and worth repeat in every coming competition.

One of the requirements for this weapon I was thinking would be the crossguard, handle and pommel would have to be ornate like the original design.
