Congratulations on a successful experiment. We learned that forged kevlar can be molded but is difficult to finish and looks a bit too much like wood.

"Successful" is a bit of a word here, given your same conclusions. But yeah now we don't have to test it so thanks!

Something that might have looked better is a forged carbon / kevlar composite material to give the part more texture

Wood grain effect is kinda nice. Would go well with for example w124 interior with all wood panels.

OO great video, im glad you committed to the end to see the finished product. I agree with you it doesnt look as flashy as carbon but its still cool IMO. For some reason though i dont think it looks as cool as the effort put in. The Kevlar just doesnt catch the light the same way carbon does

Thanks man I really appreciate it. And I fully agree, I honestly was hoping for a way better result, but I guess not everything can work out!

Just so you know theres a material you can buy called kevlar aramid pulp which is pre chopped kevlar

Interesting experiment, never seen forged Kevlar before. It does look cool, but I guess from a distance could be mistaken for wood. Worth a try though from a "what if?" perspective, but doesn't really have the same impact as carbon. Love your videos, always entertaining and informative 🍻

@@LXGspec have you considered trying UD flax next? That stuff really does look just like wood. Carbon parts with 'wood' flashing or trim could look really interesting!

I have one question. Kevlar is known as bullet proof material, is it still bulletproof with this type of application? I need information for my school project I would be very happy if anyone can answer. 😊

Btw a quick trick to demold with PETG is to sink it in boiling water for a few min then it will be pliable and you can just peal it off the part!

I tried using PLA (it did release) and i tried chucking it in the oven and it just got harder. Gotta love crystallization. I know this comment is unrelated.

Might work better w/ much shorter strands or a blend w/ chopped glass tbh, but yeah its not as pretty as chopped carbon

maybe not the best part of app for the Kevlar but it was cool none the less. I might have to try this on one of my door inserts since I have a tan interior.

ok but now i'm wondering how many layers of kevlar fabric, put into a mold for like, a sci fi armor breastplate or even just a normal modern armor plate shape, to get up to say IIA or IIIA stopping-power? Can you imagine making some Halo cosplay that can actually stop bullets? I feel like that's the dream... Also I'm thinking this color/pattern might actually look good on something like a traditional wood rifle stock, I wonder how its properties like weight & tensile strength compare to like, walnut or traditional wood laminates?
@williammorgan9622
@williammorgan9622 11 месяцев назад
I working on halo armor s fiberglass works better, Aramid is better than kevlar. Dragon scale is easier to Raise stopping power. You can buy very hard metal plates more than enough to stop even an creedmore. But nibidimTitamum could be kevlar wrapped and laminated. I would use S fiberglass kevlar layers. But you need almost inch kevlar plus an inch and 3/4 for each metal scale.
@williammorgan9622

Both Aramid and 3m list sheets to stopping power. Both s glass and carbon fiber look more Sci Fi can be Gel coated to any color.

The forged carbon shift knob looks way better, this one unfortunately looks like wooden flakes inside resin, not that spectacular. But great video!

@@LXGspec Hey listen, have you suggestions on how to make a "griffe" for your products, like a little brand badge to laminate under the gloss coat? I thought with yellow fibers would be cool but I have no idea how to make it reproducible, or which kind of stuff could resist to the epoxy, like a sticker would probably not...
