I don't really like when Guyana is being exposed to the world like that. History has taught us well when the Europeans came to the new world what negative impacts that had on locals there. They brought small pox, diseases virtually unknown to the natives at the time. It descimated the population apart from the 'genocide' that was unleashed on them. So in a similar way, I would hate to have expats coming here and setting up businesses especially in this area of eco tours. We've seen the consequences this has had on the environment. The government is very insensitive when it comes to the environment! They don't really care once they can get what they would ask for!( see Vice News documentary). I have no problem with interested people come , visit and return. You mentioned about growth of economy but have you really seen the standard of living amongst the ordinary folks here? Many are living below the poverty line. That GDP BS concept is on paper only! These eco tour. potential should be for the Guyanese locals and there are quite a few. You should find out how many Guyanese could afford to visit Kaieteur Falls or the others. It's cheaper to go to Trinidad than to our own backyard! So, I wouldn't like for expats to come here and exploit that resource too as have been done with the oil by ExxonMobil!
Guyana has been an eco-tourist destination but more so for the Europeans. There are many tour operators here who often go to tourism trade shows around the world but mostly to Europe because that's where the largest continent of eco-tourists reside.
More than likely, the guyanese government will assist in road building. Hopefully, it will not destroy too much of nature. Then, developers will do the remainder of the damage. Raping the land.
We dont need too much western influence here although we share western values such as freedom and democracy. We are a nation ingrained in deep rooted cultural values that our ancestors bequeated to us as a legacy which we are struggling to preserve.
too much western influence yet look at ur name.... common guyanese hypocrite. guess richard is now a indian name its sooo ingrained into deep rooted culture.....
@@WinstonMaraj-gx8sm That is why we have so many wars .because there is no mutual respect for philosophical and idealogical and civilizational boundaries. We need a multipolar world order not one that is unipolar and hegemonic.
Funny that you're are mentioning Freedom and Democracy as if they are the same thing with a smug undertone. Maybe entertain the idea that you are being duped and Democracy is nothing more than Mob rule. The actual logical and morally sound solution would be NO ruling class - as it doesn't make sense to do this kind of circle jerk of "People are bad so we need violent government made up from people are bad so we need violent government made up from people..."
@@CodyShirkExplorer yes we invest in ourselves stop depending on the white man for everything let them come spend here not open businesses and make more money
Dude, tourists will not go there for anything other than ego tourism. it's nice in the amazon flying over 1000s of square miles of prestine forests but not much else to do for folks visting, its not geared up for that. Georgetown is rapidly expanding and slowing getting there but is half a century behind on infrastructure and poor investment. There are no beaches with blue water, and few they have are mud flats and brown seas. I have lived here many, many decades ago, and half my ancestry is from Essequibo.
@shampersaud2763 OK, so I have a choice of Rio, Jamaica, or Guyana, and I have 5000 dollars to spend for a 2 week vacation. Please, Mr Persaud, create an itinary for me that beats the above formentioned destinitions, sir, if my commnet is untrue in any way!
Yes! We don’t have beaches with blue water. But we have a lot beach areas with clear water and we do have man made lakes with blue water. And it is, only, getting better because we are decent size country of 83,000 sq mls and not an island, so they is a lot of places to visit. Plus, we now have money because we are a petroleum and oil producing country and with that money we can create blue beaches and everything else.
Mud flats? I think u mean bamboo huts with thatched grass leaves. Love it! Blue water can't happen in Guyana. We are too close to the mouth of the Amazon River. Brown water can't reflect the sky to make it blue.
