I do not think they will make a part like that since Windows has scheduling issues with large core count cpus such as the 5950X/7950X. More likely to just see a 7800X3D. Maybe a 7700 or 7600 but nothing higher than that.

For funsies I crunched the numbers and, IF the added cache improves the 7950X to the same extent it improved the 5800X, then we can expect the 7950X3D to yield 20-25% more frames than the 5800X3D in games where the 5800X3D is currently in the lead. But there are a lot of unknowns. In addition to the scheduling issues, im not sure how the cache will be able to handle the extra voltage and heat. The cache made the 5800X3D a very cool and low wattage cpu that you cant manually overclock. The 7 series cpus are hot and high wattage cpus that... i guess also cant be manually overclocked because they essentially auto-overclock. Im not sure how they're gonna pull this off, it seems... incompatible? I have faith in team red, but they likely got a serious challenge to overcome.
@morosis82
@morosis82 Год назад
I'm going to bet the gap in the lineup (no 7800X) is where they'll put the X3D part. I always thought the 5700 and 5800 were too close, this makes the lineup 6 core, 8 core, 8 core with 3d cache, 12 core and 16 core. A clear difference in each part, which I quite like over a slight freq bump.

Hey Jay! I don't know if you see this, and I hate to have to write this down before even watching the video - but could you add sandbox/physics games to your benchmarks? I know Besiege and Scrap Mechanic would easily overload these CPUs, and I'd be curious to see how V-cache would affect performance in these types of games. (I'm running a 3700X right now, and it struggles a LOT in most my games.) Edit : so, I know that the frequency at which a game gets updated is important for benchmarks. The rarer, the better, in this case (though, I'd love a few more performance updates for Scrap Mechanic, especially a fix for the awful performance hit when you've explored too much in survival mode). So, since Scrap Mechanic rarely gets updates, it would be an excellent, stable game benchmark for years (sadly) at a time. Also it seems like I'm top comment (not anymore lol), so thank you all for helping this comment being seen! Oh and, Jay, if you need benchmarks for the games I've proposed, I can probably create a set of benchmarks creations to put a load on the CPU. One thing which would be VERY important to do, though, would be to always use the same creation - and mention that FPS without a heavy creation loaded in and being active doesn't really matter. For example, a CPU with 400 FPS when there's not a lot going on (let's call it CPU A) would look a lot better than one which only has a hundred FPS (CPU B). However, if CPU A only has one or two FPS under heavy load, and CPU B over fifteen (doesn't seem like a lot, but trust me, it is in Scrap Mechanic and Besiege) then CPU B must scale up much better under heavy load on a single core. And I know I'm repeating here, but V-cache tested on these games would be EXTREMELY interesting and useful to know about for many gamers' next builds.

About AVX-512, I think it also depends a lot on what specific instructions of it you use. There are some instructions that are only half the width, but allow you to do some stuff in a single instruction instead of using multiple. In those cases even the 2 step AVX-512 can be a significant upgrade and AVX-512 on AMD seems to have no performance downside like it does on Intel. Phoronix has some great benches for that topic. Sometimes it adds only a few percent of perf, sometimes it quadruples it!
@NJRoadfan

@Lurch7861 Alder Lake doesn't support AVX-512 at all thanks to the E-cores. It would be interesting to see Cinebench on Zen 4 with AVX-512 disabled to get a more direct comparison of IPC. Zen 4's AVX-512 is a bit of a compromise design, so it may not be faster to use vs. AVX2. As for overclocking, mainstream CPUs have been doing turbo boost and bouncing off the TjMax thing for awhile now. In regular use I doubt it will be sitting at 95C all that much. Tests like Prime95 and Cinebench are "worst case scenario" and don't reflect real world usage patterns. The reality is most of the time the CPU is idle. Using Curve Optimizer to undervolt as much as possible is the way to go. And then you can limit the TDP to like 95W and maybe also decrease the max core clock speed by 100-200MHz to get better and safer temps for single-core performance. Lower than 80C is the recommended temperature for sustained workloads. Above 85C the CPU begins to degrade quite faster, and at 95C the degradation is significant And with these crazy single core gains, you would want to use this CPU for the next ten years because it is that good, so better take care of the silicon and not let it degrade too fast.

I upgraded from a 1600 to a 5600 recently so I'm good for at least another gen or maybe longer depending on what I'm feeling, but I'm excited to upgrade when I do. Depending on pricing I may jump on RDNA 3 if not my gtx 1080 has life in it and I'd need to upgrade my monitor to really make that upgrade worth it.

@@damienjeremytrotman94 Honestly, how impressive and innovative is for your CPU to run 95C regardless of cooler type. The engineers will say anything for the purpose of any type of gain and to have some leverage and eventual that absurd info will sink-in in already hyped people and enthusiasts, at the cost of premature degradation because no way, at 95C anything can have healthy long life, that is virtually 5C before boiling point. I can bet, the first months after release, there will be a ton of issues and remorse.

@@brianmiller1574 have you thought that maybe better IHS designs and alloys have come into play that make it not matter so much that's it's at 95c? Clearly what AMD is doing is making it so, the better your cooler is, the better performance you AUTOMATICALLY can gain from this design. No need to fuss with manually changing settings to get more performance but, if you do, expect to be able to draw even more out.

Ease of use is a powerful attraction, the self optimising of the ram is freaking awesome. I too hope that the radeon department and rdn3 does well, nvidia needs more than a few slices of humble pie. The next build i do will be a full amd rig, nvidia have just burned too many bridges at this point. Since nvidia gave up on the low end market then the rdn3 igpus have a very nice opportunity if it has come far enough.

XMP has the 4 primary timings and a few more, but recently some other timings on DDR5 (and even on DDR4 like tFAW) have proven to give quite a bit of performance, so they added them to Expo. I don't know why the downside is the longer memory training...

I recall a lot of ppl saying the AMD Phenom series CPU's were garbage. I had a PC with an MSI 990 series chipset MOBO and a Phenom 2 975 (3.6Ghz) quad core black series. With a 180 watt TDP CPU cooler I was able to get stable clock speeds of 4.25GHz with idle temps in the upper 20s and load temps in the mid 50s peak temps never exceeded 61C. I was also running 2 MSI HD 7980 GPUs in crossfire and 16GB of Corsair Dominator Ram in dual channel mode and 2 Hitachi 10K rpm 380GB HDDs in raid 0. That build was a beast and crushed every game I played.

Jay, i'm interested in seeing you do a video on undervolting Ryzen 7000 to see if there can be some optimizations made there and as a general guide to undervolting. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be looking at undervolting Ryzen 7000 just because they don't want to see 95c temps.

@alexanderschulte8248 Год назад
Agreed i my have to undervolt my custom water cooled 5900x to prevent shutdowns because my stupid asus motherboard shutsoff if the cpu goes above 85c. A 240mm rad should be able to cool a cpu even in summer at stock settings. Its just not user friendly to have to undervolt. Thats where intel has the uperhand. They just work out of the box even if they run hot with the stock cooler

Man I wish I could do that testing your doing over there. Just seeing what AM5 could do must be nuts. RDNA 3 VS Lovelace will be good, it has to be, RDNA 2 showed AMD can make a GPU worth buying, yes I own a 5700xt and that was worth it, but Nvidia just had more all aroundness. Soon we all will be running PI's and Mocha PC's because AMD/Intel/Nvidia will be too expensive....I wonder what they have coming out? Pricing is crazy and it's understandable but my wallet is not intelligent so...

AMD made a mistake making the new CPU's AM4 cooler compatible. They had to make the IHS on them much thicker as a result and they've lost a lot of cooling potential because of it. If you OC it, take off the IHS and cool the die directly and see how much better the cooling is.

I was thinking of an issue with the CPU because the CPU led was red and the vram one was blinking on the mobo and then I remembered your video and the advice you gave about the first start with a zen 4 cpu. Everything works smoothly and now lets go benchmark a little bit. Thanks you

I believe you mentioned that your AM5 motherboard was an ASRock. I believe a little while back they acknowledged that their memory timing tests were taking a VERY long time, and they've since created new BIOSes that reduce the time significantly. Not sure if the other mobo manufacturers are seeing the same thing.

Asrock is frustrating: they will do great hardware engineering, and then, lackluster bios, bios updates that fix some things and cause other issues. I have learned to wait a few months until they physically ship boards with revised bios already preinstalled vs trying to do updates yourself and going insane in the process
