Absolutely the most stunning work I have seen yet. So beautiful.!! Thank you so much for sharing this video and your art with all of us. Blessings to you always. ~SuzyJC-in-Pataskala-Ohio/USA_01.14.2022~
Absolutely Stunning ❤️🤗❤️ Your work is Simply Divine 👌🏽 Gorgeous Quilt from Start to Finish ❤️ As Beautiful as the Quilt itself is " The Quilting is the Cherry 🍒 on top ❤️🤗❤️ I've always either hand quilted or quilted my quilts on a sewing machine. Right now I can't justify purchasing a Long-Arm machine for myself. But I've really wanted to try my hand at it & your Quilt inspires me to finish a Quilt & rent a Long-Arm machine & give it a go.😊☺️😸 In the words of R.J.Smith: "Nothing beats a Failure but a Try." 🙏🏾God Bless 🙏🏾
I am STUNNED!!! What a gorgeous quilt!!! I loved watching every bit of this. I have a long arm, and one day I hope I can do what you did. I learned a lot from this too. Thank you!
Amazing!!! This quilt is the most beautiful quilt - just my style. I love the fact that you took us through ever step in creating this. You mention you didn't think you could have done this a year ago - yet now you are teaching us to do it. This was such a blessing to watch. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much. What a wonderful video! I love that you take the time to explain as you go. So glad I found you! So many quilting videos do not explain what they are doing and why. I love everything you did. No need to speed up, I love watching. I would also love to see your thought process or your layout decisions before quilting to see how you come up with the quilting ideas. Beautiful quilt and stunning quilting. It should be in a quilt show! Thanks again
Wow I'm just learning free motion quilting on my little machine and I am speechless with this work! Just take it a small section at a time and you can do stuff like this!!!!
Yes you can !!!! Mark your top completely before you begin quilting it. Then just follow your markings whilte quilting. Easy peasy. Enjoy!!! And thank you for watching.
This quilt is absolutely stunning! You are a master quilter Hannelore. I love how you encourage your viewers to not worry about making a mistake and just make a mistake elsewhere in the quilt as a design choice. Beautiful, beautiful work!!! I am also from Michigan. 😊
My dear so stunnig, what art work and totaly you are the master of a masterpiece.I am sick on full time oxygen, can no longer do anything, now I am sitting still and learning on my domestic machine how to do quilting.Truly hope I get it right, would love to do it as pretty as u one day.Lots if love,Be so Blessed.❤
Hi there. Thank you for watching. You will love quilting on a domestic. It takes some time for your body to learn that muscle memory and get nice and smooth. But don't give up. It will come. Sending you lots of love.
I agree amazingly beautiful work. I am very inspired. I needle turn my quilts but am just learning to longarm. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! Thank you for making us feel so welcome and at home while you quilt. I LOVE when you ‘digress’ or get on your soapbox! And your accidental…”S***”... OMG! Cracked me up! I know that we would get along SO well! (I am a Navy vet, so if you want to know some other words, let me know! lol) I have not actually done any ruler work or freemotion…. Yet! I am still waiting for my ruler plate to be delivered. You have so inspired me. Your explanation of how and why you do things, gives SO much confidence. And even how not to freak out if you make a mistake. Thank you for not editing those out! I am excited to start this new process! Keep the AWESOME videos coming! I hope that I will one day be able to quilt like you!
Oh my goodness! I just love this quilt. The instruction on using a different color thread for shadowing is great. I'm so grateful you share your talent with us.
I’m speechless it’s absolutely the most beautiful quilt your video is amazing your explanation is perfect you simplified everything that looks so complicated I want to buy every single one of those rulers and I definitely want you to quote something of mine
Thank you for those awesome compliments. As far as buying rulers, my advice would be to start with a good straight edge, and then expanding to the curved rulers. By far those are the ones I use most often. And thank you, I would be happy to quilt a quilt for you. Thanks for watching.
Wow. I'm speechless. This is absolutely stunning. Your work, your patience, and your artistic interpretation is so far above perfect, I am in awe. I wish I could have you quilt something for me, someday. I'm pretty much a beginner but before I leave this world I want to do what you do ♡ Thank you so much for sharing your art!
Hi K. You can get there. I was a beginner too a while ago. We all start there. Just take it one bite at a time and you can get there. Thank you for your awesome compliments. Hannelore
Stunning! You make me feel like I can do it. Lol! Thanks for your positivity. I have a computerized Longarm. But thats because my free motion is very lacking. I would love, love, love to be able to quilt more steady as this.
You know, I’ve had a longarm for about 3 years now. (Quilted on a domestic before that). But for about 2 years now I’ve been drooling over getting robotics added to my longarm. And finally I placed an order for an IntelliQuilter system. So excited!!!! But I have to admit that having waited the extra 2 years has exponentially improved my free motion quilting. I’m glad I waited because I don’t think I would have the skills I have had I gone to robotics earlier. But that being said... I think you can quilt with robotics most everything I’ve quilted so far freehand. So go for it. If you have robotics, use them! Just go for it.
@@quiltsbyhannelore I self taught my self to use IQ, by following IQ Demo's on you tube. It took me a while but I got it down. Worked on it for 2 years at a quilt shop where I worked. I Love doing e2e with IQ because I have trouble doing that free hand. I learned to do custom work using IQ. After 2 years at the quilt shop I stopped using my FMQ free hand skills. Now I am no longer at the shop and don't have IQ I am starting over to develop my free hand skills on my long arm at home. So moral of the story, don't ignore your beautiful free hand skills. But enjoy learning to use IQ. Amazing system.
Wow very beautiful quilt . I m new in this field and try to understand how to complete a project like this. Working hard with domestic sewing machine to make a quilt. As I don’t have quilting machine. It’s very expensive. With sewing machine I got sour in my shoulders but want to practice more. Thank you for sharing your ideas
I’m so happy to hear that!!!!! Good for you. Just remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect. If it brings you joy, that’s good. That’s the goal! Happy Quilting. Hannelore
Beautiful quilting and I particularly like the credit you gave to the quilters who taught you custom quilting as well as the rulers and techniques they use. You are a class act!
Oh, My. That is stunning. I have a long arm but only quilt for myself. I am an o.k. long armer. Wish I had seen this video about two weeks ago, lol. I am doing a small fill on a border currently and didn't even think of switching from my 50 wt. So Fine to either Bottom Line or the Micro and I do have both in house. Sigh. Oh, well stitch and learn. Thanks for sharing. I did learn many things from watching including remembering to change thread wt.
Thank you for such a great video explaining in detail how and why you do the quilting you do. I am getting so excited to try this. Wow! Stunning quilt. Even my husband was watching.
Amazing quilting and instructions. I have to get the square rulers and the circle ruler sets. . Your demo on the use and marking with the rulers and process of quilting secondary designs took all the confusion out of it for me. I thought I had to be an engineer to do all that style of quilting. Thank you for posting this. I will follow you and watch for more videos in the future.
What a beautiful quilt, and your quilting is amazing. I've just found your videos added them to my subscriptions list. I've only had my long arm machine since last summer, but love it. Already lots of ideas you've given me. Thank you. Take care.
I learned so much from watching this video - amazing skill, but breaking it down by your process is nothing short of inspirational! Also, your method of recording was fantastic with the talk track added after the recording. You are so right about speeding up the repetitive sections - wonderful job!!!!
Your video “just popped up” and this is my first time to watch. Wonderful quilt. I really appreciate your way of quilting first then narrating over at the end. While I do like the hummmm of the longarm I was happy to be able to just listen to you tell how you chose your motifs. The quilt turned out very beautiful only using a few different motifs and fillers. I look forward to seeing more from you.
I truly appreciate your attention to detail and how to go about doing this fabulous quilting. I only have a domestic, but this video helps me see the possibilities on my own work. Thank you.
I quilted on a domestic for almost 5 years before switching on a longarm. And although it takes a bit longer, you truly can do just about anything on a domestic that can be done on a longarm. Thank you for watching.
Your quilting is STUNNING!!! Love listening to you discuss/explain how and why you did certain things. Very interesting and informative. As a novice FMQ on a domestic I truly appreciate your encouragement to try! Thank you. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄💕
I couldn't do that either when I started. It took lots of practice. But you can do this as well. Just practice. If not on a machine, just draw the quilting on paper. You need to get the muscle memory. And even practicing by drawing will go a long way toward that. You can do this!
Just found your video. It just popped up in my feed. I love your video style and your quilt is absolutely stunning!!! Subscribed! Looking forward to seeing more! Thank you 😊
Stunning quilt! The quilting just makes this top come alive. I'm curious, did the quilt need to be blocked once you finished all that dense quilting? I'd love to know.
Hi Martha, No. I did not block this quilt before trimming it. It came out very square. And I think that is because the dense quilting was added AFTER all the other quilting. I quilted this quilt in 3 passes. The first pass was to stitch in the ditch around all the applique and borders. That stabilized the quilt. Then in the 2nd pass I added the dividing lines and feathers. Which further stabilized this quilt. Then in the 3rd pass I quilted the dense fill. Quilting in that progression keeps the quilt from drawing in, bubbling, etc. And makes for a nice and square finish.
so for fills you use 100 wt top and 40 wt bobbin? haven't tried that yet. you quilt beautifully. I'm still working on my backtracking on feathers. some look great others.....eh.... obviously a work in progress. Any suggestions on inexpensive materials to practice long arming on? I recently tried just a piece of felt yardage. quilting was very un forgiving, I mean that it looked really flat and every mistake was a beacon saying, look at me!! I like using puffy batting, my quilting always looks so much better. I'm just trying to find something cheap to practice on and get the same satisfaction when I do it. hope my rambling made sense? Wish you had some classes. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!
Ok. Let’s start with the thread. Yes, I use 100wt for fills for the top thread. I use 60 wt bobbin thread almost all the time. And for this quilt I used it on everything. I only use 40wt thread in the bobbin if I want the thread to show up more on the back of the quilt. But 60 wt in the bobbin works best regardless of what weight thread you use on the top. Onward…. Feathers… Feathers take practice, lots of practice! Keep working on it and they will get better. One thing that has improved my feathers a lot and quite quickly is the class I took from Bethanne Nemesh, called Feather Fiesta. It’s expensive but worth every penny. Onward… Practice fabric…. I use the cheapest fabric I can find to practice on. That’s usually muslin. You should be able to get muslin at regular pice for a little over $4/yard. And if you have a JoAnn fabrics near you, use that 50% off coupon and get a bold for 1/2 off. Onward…. Batting…. I’m chuckling when you say that your quilting looks best when quilting with puffy/high loft batting because that high loft hides a lot of inconsistencies. I would recommend that you practice with a low loft batting and use a contrasting thread. This will show you ALL your wiggles and wobbles. I promise you, you will NOT be happy with your results (I still cringe when I do this) but it truly shows you what you have to work on, and where you’ve improved. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching my videos. Take care and keep on quilting :-)
I did see one time where the air eraseable marker bleached out the color of the fabric. I don’t trust them either. I don’t know what you can use that absolutely won’t damage your quilts . It left a white line.
That has been an ongoing worry for me as well. Not so much for my quilts because I just wash and/or soak them in cold water until all the markings are out. And that has worked so far. But I can't do that for my customer's quilts. My solution has been to add robotics to my machines. I plan to do some videos down the road showing how I combine robotic quilting with my free motion quilting. Thanks for watching.
Hi. To answer your questions... I like YLI Whisper Touch monofilament thread. If anything I just loosen my top tention a little bit for the monofilament. In the bobbin I use 60 weight Magna Glide bobbins by Fil-Tec. I use these bobbins all the time, no matter what thread I have in the top. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
How do you calculate the pricing? I dont do alot of custom work but a little. I just did a quilt which using your guidelines would be heirloom. I charged by the inch which is all I knew how to do. .06 per inch.
I charge by the hour. $25/hour at this time. And that’s for everything I do, whether it’s quilting, piecing and preparing a quilt back, preparing and/or sewing a binding, making/attaching a label. I love quilting so I am happy to do just about anything my customers need for their quilt. So to keep things simple I charge by the hour. Once I start a new project I record my start and stop times. That can be several start/stop entries for a project. And then when I’m all done I add it all up. I don’t get many interruptions so this works for me.
Thank you. I will try that next time. I love it too. I am wondering if I should charge less because I dont consider myself an expert. Anyway. Thanks again for sharing. I am going to give your channel to a friend on instagram who needs support and advice. Not sure is she will watch but I hope she does. Just beginning but she has a ton of talent. I will also tell her that you actualy answer questions which is refreshing!
