Beautiful watch. Reminds me a bit of the watch I used to wear all the time and which I still have in almost perfect condition. The Swatch Windfall YCS410GX. I purchased the original band new 2 years ago since it had the famous issue with the black things breaking. Also still have the box. When I bought it I didn't even knew about the Omega's, Seiko's etc .. I just walked by a Swatch shop, looked at it and fell in love in an instant. This one seems to be a gem as well.
I have a Mission to Mars...the thrill of the chase to get one was soon quashed by the ownership experience. Feels like a watch you would get out of a packet of breakfast cereal by sending away 5 tokens. As you point out there are much better swatches, at a cheaper price point. Or if you want something really cool for the same price point maybe a watch from Mr Jones Watches
I made the same mistake Craig. A Mission to Uranus, like a toy, I also got a blue wrist and lost the top pusher. Got my money back because of the blue wrist! I then got the Pagani version of it for around $100 including import tax, and it is great! Stainless , sapphire, better mecaquartz movement. By the way Craig, there is now a Pagani Design Mars watch and it looks absolutely fantastic. I'm thinking of getting one of those too. You'll scratch that itch and get a real watch.
Seems to be that with a lot of things. Spot something interesting. Find the photos and reviews. Get all excited about it. Finally get it in your hands and it's meh. I do agree with the comment about the Pagani. For 100 bucks I wasn't expecting much and I was quite surprised how nice it was. Mind you, not perfect. But at that price I can't really complain.
Not mad about this one Gary, the dial is too shiny, makes it look cheap, though it could be the lights m. As far as looking inside any Swatch is concerned.....you simply cannot do it, unless you destroy it. Swatches are unrepairable and closed up no matter if it's plastic or metal. So unfortunately you won't open from the front either. I think the Pagani is a better option. Much better build quality, Seiko mecaquartz and sapphire. Which reminds me, did you see their new Mars edition? Looks great. I have the Uranus one and I might get that too. Excellent video as always!
The Rings of Irony, Speed up and Carbonium Dream are also quite nice, and similar to this one. The Vidi is a black chrono and also rather nice. Only drawback with Swatch watches is the lack of case back if you wanted to get at them, also their weak water rating. In addition, you can only get swatch straps to fit swatch watches. On the plus side, very easy to get to the battery for a quick change, and you can choose the size of the band if getting a metal bracelet so if you have a huge wrist you should be able to get a band long enough to fit you.
Got my V3 Pagani (similar look, better specs and build quality, a fraction of the cost and Seiko Vk movement) ... I'm happy ... don't need or want a Swatch or MoonSwatch ... plus there is the Seiko Speedtimer now. But interesting that Swatch also did one independent of the Omega collaboration. How about putting a moonswatch dial into it, would be perfect. Shame Swatch still design their watches not to be repaired, not very sustainable. Their older plastic watches tend to just disintegrate when u try to change a strap, lugs are very week from UV exposure.
Oh man....that's twice in what.........2 weeks that we are on the same page! You are right again. This is a way better watch then that plastic toy. And i never, never and never look at Swatch watches.......but this one i actually like! I agree with you yet again.... it's a nice watch to look at. I see a coherent relationship in bloom Gary 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Again great video, and another great find ! But…… My vote goes to Pagani Design a better watch overall with better specs and price than this Swatch Watch…. Only 30m of water resistance ! Wow ! I suggest that you store it safely in your pocket if you get caught in the rain ! Cheers from Canada !
The pagani design speedmaster is definitely far better than the moonswatch for less than half the price. Stainless Steel seiko mecca quartz and sapphire crystal.
YES! I have this, bought it last year when I couldn’t get a Moonswatch in Edinburgh, but I got the shop to fit the old bracelet that has a micro adjustment clasp.

Hi Gary this watch does look nice. As a Moonswatch alternative I think the Pagani Design PD1701 might get my vote. BTW does this Swatch have AR coating? It looked quite shiny under the light? Shame about the butterfly clasp 😢
This is an extremely helpful review, Gary. Check out either Adrian's or Jody's recent review of the new Moon Swatch. I could be mistaken, but I believe that one of them said that a V7 series quartz movement from Japan is used.
Perhaps you should also review the Calvin Klein chronograph watches. They are part of Swatch group, Swiss made and very affordable. I suspect they have the same movement as in this one.
You can’t get inside the watch mate. Their whole business model is designed around the fact that you toss it away once it dies so you can give Swatch more cash for another disposable watch.
I'll have to take back what I said about Swatch now that watch looks amazing and the fit-and-finish is perfect actually looks better than an Omega still not a fan of the battery compartment though

@@psyphi407 Disillusioned? Probably not by the cheap, and in the case if the strap, nasty quality - it is what is it. But take the ‘Omega’ and ‘Speedmaster’ branding off the MoonSwatch dial and strap and then see how ‘popular’ is it…. See my point?
@Borassic Time you can say the same about Rolex. Take away the name and you've got an 800 dollar dive watch. Nobody is chasing this Moonswatch because of the quality. For them, the hype is worth it.
@@psyphi407 Except that Rolex isn’t being instructed by a parent company to put its name on a plastic (definitely not luxury) copy of the Sub made by eg Timex.. What you’re describing is the cost of buying a brand over and above its actual manufacturing cost ie gross (as opposed to net) profit. The same is true of the MoonSwatch, which probably costs one-tenth of the SRP to actually manufacture.
I’m a seiko guy so the moon swatch thing past me by. I always wanted a swatch though, I love this thanks. 👍. I’d go straight to official silicone strap.
The quality of a watch has nothing to do with most who buy the Moonswatch. It's well known, it's a piece of crap, yet people que half way across London to get the "latest" model. Says an awful lot about society in general IMO & it's not positive.
Are they still the "disposable" kind? Swatch was my 1st " real watch " back in my grade School days. It made me realize that watches aren't just for telling time but also for self-expression.
I have the M2M, the new launch made me laugh .. i have a 1995 Swatch Irony Chrono..black dial..white sub-dials and ALL of the hands are Gold coloured so looks better than the new M2M release..also the bracelet has 6 micro adjustments..solid links...you no longer can buy it im afraid but since 1995 when i bought it...the watch has worked perfectly.😊
It's a nice looking watch, however to my eye something about this watch doesn't quite look right. The subdials are too large and crammed into the dial, which then has too little room to breathe.
Other than the meager WR rating, this thing has *way* more wrist-appeal than the MoonSwatch. But I haven't checked out anything from Swatch for the better part of a dog's age, and I'm betting I'm hardly alone, hence the MoonSwatch's creation. However, late last year I got hold of a 90s-era Seiko SUS-series chronograph, which has seriously scratched that quartz-but-still-special chrono itch.
I opened up a couple of these irony the best things is not to do it plus what you'll find inside is pretty boring, mucho plastic, you can remove the bezel then pop the acrylic but you won't press the cristal back on, you'll destroy the old one (99% sure) and need to glue a new one, little bead of acrylic around the edges so maybe it'll be waterproof to a point.
I own a Swatch "Black One" Chronograph with the same Clockwork as the MonSwatch. It looks awesome (90s Style) and costs 120 USD! No need to buy a MoonSwatch :-)
I could not help but notice how the chrono seconds hand seems floppy? For lack of better words. It just looks so cheap when ticking...and how it misses the indices. Still very much superior to the moonswatch. Nevertheless, the Pagani moon watch v3 is the way to go, with that Seiko VK movement and sapphire crystal.
So many nicer quartz chronos for the price gaz, the inherent value in the moonswatch is the Omega design & the history attached. This is just an expensive fashion watch
I don't know.....If you really want a quartz chronograph for $250 (or so), I think I'd go with any of half a dozen of Dan Henry versions of your choice! No weird plastic, no unknown movement, and no odd integrated bracelet. (I'm sure there are other makers as well, but DH is a one stop shopping spree for varied looks and styles).
The thing is. Pretty much every chronograph you can buy is better than the moonswatch. The moomswatch is nothing but a piece of cheap plastic. Everyone is hyped because it is a lookalike to the famous moonwatch and has Omega written on it to make it official. The watch itself is garbage for the money.
Making moonswatch with a plastic case is a kind of sabotage... it doesn't let you forget that moonswatch is only a mockup... a picture of the real thing on a paper band...
MoonSwatch is popular because it’s the cheapest legitimate watch with an ‘Omega’ logo on it. It explains why people always preferred a poor quality plastic quartz watch than a better quality same priced Speedy homage watch. The key is never about the style, it’s about the brand. That’s the luxury industry.
The question is if you can service it or repair? If not it is just another piece of junk. European Union begins to forbid selling non-repairable goods, housholds, cars, etc. But Switzerland is not in EU, so they might not care for the environment and make easy money.
Not too bad but my recommendation is the Phylida Speedmaster homage. Comes in three versions, the Professional, the TinTin, or the Speedy Tuesday limited edition. All with sapphire crystals and Seagull ST19 movements. All for around $182 US with bracelets. I own all three and they are fantastic watches. Better than that piece of junk Moonswatch!
Wanted the Moonswatch when i first saw it becouse it was something new and looked cool, then the shitstorm on how to get it started and now i really dont care much. If i get one someday when im close to a store then maby but now i would prob just go for the Pagani design one instead. :)
It isn't just you who doesn't get the MoonSwatch hype. On a trip up to London to see the lights before Christmas we visited the Swatch store. The MoonSwatches looked very plastic and tacky, my wife commented there were much nicer watches in there at significantly lower prices.
The previous smaller Irony Chrono was even better than these larger ones .. RIP Swatch Irony Chrono .. they are dead to me now .. too big and dreadfully dull
Swatch would get more watch enthusiasts buying their watches if they would just redesign their cases with regular lugs instead of that proprietary BS they use.
Nice face but as you said it looks too bulbous from the side so even though I was looking to buy it now that I have seen your video I think I'm gonna pass.
Many watches are much better than Moon Swatch, but in order to make claims like one from the title of this video, you have to give equal homage value. You need an Moon watch, or Space watch. Not this... So, the range is limited, but there is a much better and cheaper space watch: G-Shock DW5600. End of story. We all can make miles and miles long lists of watches better than MoonSwatch with no real connection to the stars.
