This is so beautiful. Unfortunately I can't do much forging until I have my workshop in Scotland ready...Neighbours in London (I'm in a flat there) don't appreciate the hammering, drill noise and especially the wired in smoke detector going crazy as soon as I much as think about annealing! I really love this.
ThanKs Foxie! I had the same problem for a few years when i started out in a flat with neighbours! in the end i moved to the country to hammer in peace.... i am back in the city now and neighbours again.... I think it's one of them things we have to work around .... i wish you luck with your Jewellery making. Thanks for comments :)
Wow Eamon, never knew u had a channel 😲 thsts really awesome. Nice work!! New subscriber lol... Cheers for the saw blade tips too by the way 👌 I got what I needed after. Much appreciated
Thanks Jeff. The bars are great to work with. Have upgraded my torch and it makes it a bit easier to anneal. Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your projects :)
Thanks Dianne. In this video i was using a piece of tree trunk to sit the anvil on. That was a few years ago. Today i sit the anvil in between two concrete blocks and stack them up x 8. In total 4 blocks on each side and the anvil rests in the centre gap.
Thank you mrbennysutube. I don't use anything to treat the copper for to prevent the skin turning green. I tried lacquer once but it started to peel off within a couple of weeks which created a yellow glaze on the piece of jewellery. You can try clear nail polish as a lacquer or any car lacquer will also do the same. hope that helps. :)
YEs. A black sharpie, and Nail polish for the back. Black sharpie is not great as a resist, but for small etchings ( short time in acid ) works well ).
@@tristine14 I bought a few different sharpies. Try to buy a water resist one if you are going to put metal into acid. I think nail polish is the best resist, but sharpies are easier to draw with. Hope this helps :)
Hi Julian, The cone shaped steel is called a Bangle Mandrel. THis one is an oval shaped one, you can also get a round shaped one. I bought this on Ebay for around € 30.
I learned to Etch from watching a couple of different videos on RU-vid. Do a search for "Jewellery etching using batteries". With Jewellery Etching it is trial and error with getting the timing right. Try a couple of sample pieces first with scrap copper. Enjoy
I can only imagine Anthony, and look at what they did create in ancient times. Could we create anything like Newgrange today with such precision in mind. I often think about the stone carvings and how they cut such fine geometric patterns into stone which still speak to us today, only 5000 years later. Magical.
Hi Kiko, sorry this one is sold. I can make you one as a commission piece but it could be mid April / May when I get a chance to. Let me know if you are still interested.
