In this video, I forge a simple bottle opener. These are great beginner projects because you get to practice making simple tooling including a punch, round drift, and round decorative punch. You also practice tapering, punching and drifting holes, and working on the horn of the anvil. Check out the full length video on my channel for more details. @@hawkeyedsniper7269shop safety is no laughing matter. Many people have lost their livelihood and health due to carelessness. I had to have a serious talk with a guy in my shop because he was grinding steel and showering sparks near a combustible fuel source. Play it safe, kids.

I used beeswax while it was hot to coat it for protection from water but if you don’t want to go through the trouble of using beeswax you can always let it cool and spray it with clear spray paint.

I used 1/4 inch by 3/4 flat bar.

What is the weight of the hammer head shown in the video? It looks like maybe a lighter alloy than what I’m used to.

How much do you think that cost you to make? Just out of curiosity, like gas, metal and your time.

I now do a lot of the process under a power hammer and it takes me about 6 hours to do a batch of 16. This cost around $15 in gas and if I recall correctly about $40 in steel which comes out to $55 or about 3.44 each. I sell them pretty regularly now for $20 with a 20% consignment fee so I profit about $201 per batch or about $33.50 an hour.

Lovely bottle opener, is ur wax food grade?(free of impurities) Only asking because I wouldn't put wax on something that's making contact with something ur gonna put in ur month
