Today at FirstBuild, bladesmith Collin Sage is making a WWII Cossack Shashka Saber.
Collin uses the San-Mai forging technique to sandwich his core 80CrV2 steel between two layers of Damascus, then finishes off the sword with a brass bolster and wooden handle.

@ivansablaev5549 3 года назад
Good effort, alas, you have not made the pommel properly. The top has a groove and the pommel is NOT screwed into tang. It is slid on and a metal round nut screws into the pommel and sits flush with the groove. The handle is too fat. Shaska is about agility, NOT power or heft.

The dip in the sword is a really nice touch but handle is rough needs more wood and less brass and it needs more details in the eagle like carved beak, wings... something like that.... I’m not expert but your swords would look more insane

Nice from many aspects but not perfect elaboration of form and it's seems too heavy. It's shashka, it's thin, light and sharp made for fast using.You could make better use of the benefits of Damascus steel in this. It' not heavy rider equipement. 3-6 cuts per second.

@wudangmasterlee8123 2 года назад
@Churchilltler No its not. Katana was influenced by Chinese Tang Dynasty Jian, but it was still quite different. Russian cossacks on the other hand, use purely Circassian swords, there are no modifications at all.

@umarlaypan5597
@umarlaypan5597 3 года назад
Shashka is not Russian but Circassian in origin. From Circassian word "saesh`hwa" ("big knife"). It is not Russian at all. There is traditional process of shashka forging and classical parameters of look, length and weight. So: 1) shashka is not Russian; 2) something you forged is not shashka but a parody to it - like a plastic Christmas tree. Sorry.
