Just wanted to say congrats on the show John. It will keel. The look on your face when they said you will be making a partisan was priceless. I just hope I find a job so I can buy one of your axes hammers or knives before your work becomes out of my price range.
Great job on Forged in Fire. That was a great looking blade. I had no doubt that you would do well. It is always fun to watch a good Smith at work. No matter the outcome you should be proud.
I just watched you on FORGED IN FIRE, and you're still my go to guy on forging...the knife you made to make the final was just awesome. Hold your head up buddy, you're still outstanding.
For sure, he's an amazing blade smith, did great been excited all day ready to see him forge a knife and wasn't expecting a spear lol. Was just me but the other guy looked like he just cut and ground his spear. While he forged the whole thing. Great job man
Hey John just seen your episode of forged in fire. First off congrats on making that far, beautiful spear you made, just a total bummer about the results.
Turned on Forged in Fire last night, and had to run over to the computer to make sure it was you. Nice work - Damn strength test. Maybe they'll ask you back
John loved the Forged in Fire episode. The wife was like why are you so giddy. I said cause I watch Big John on his RU-vid Channel all the time. His vlogs are so informative. I felt my heart sink when it bent. Your blade was way way nicer in my biased opinion. I also felt the welded square stock Phil did was not proper In the rhelm of forging the blade. Awesome awesome awesome job keep doing you.
I was really pulling for you on forged in fire.. your weapon looked much better than your competitors..maybe you can go back for a redemption episode.. keep up the good work..
No shit i wondered if ud ever do it. But after ur 6 hr knife callenge i got 2 thinkin, well john would b completely done by the end of round 1. But they throw curve balls. Sweet!
Oh we were talking about grinder motors before. I picked up a 2.25hp from a weslo treadmill. Everything is mocked up, just need to weld everything. I was wondering what the gap is between your upright tube and the tracking wedge? I was thinking about 1/4”? Good luck on FIF!
Anti Antifa terrier thereabout yeah. You really just have to check it as you go. I’ve build a few grinders and the tracking wheel always ends up needing to sit in a slightly different place. No one size fits all option
Old Hickory Forge cool thanks. I was thinking 1/4” will get me close enough and I can fine tune with washers/shims. Hope to see some future wootz projects from ya Hooah
I think its funny you say " there is no one in the world I trust to swing at this.." My first hammer was a group hammer-in. The handled eye punch got warped and we were taking turns with a stake drift till it got straightened. I had to trust 3 other guys I met that day to swing at one. It is as scary as it sounds.
Hey I have 5 of them an all mine are fitted like a handle through tomahawk with thick cheeks ,the more you hit them the tighter they get until they break the handle. I made 2 of them the others were given to me by grand pa
I'v been following your You tube videos and tonight saw you on Forged in Fire, bit of bad luck. Could you give a little more information on claying the blade ? What kind of clay, how to apply, etc etc.
Rb Duffer satanite refractory mortar is what I use. A layer about 1/8 of an inch thick is plenty. You basically just paste it onto the parts of the blade you want to stay soft during the quench. There’s a lot of videos out there I’m actually not very good at it haha
Oh there is totally someone dumb enough to let someone hit a drift with a sledgehammer while they hold it... ME! The resulting hospital trip sucked pretty badly. I even have a video of it on my channel..... Because I did some dumb things earlier on.
