I am very new to blacksmithing, I am wanting to make my second knife; (I did a railroad spike knife with a twisted handle)( the blade hardened 👍) and I am trying to decide to cut out the shape of the blade or should I do it like this gentleman did and hammer it into shape. I tried hammering it into shape; lets just say he makes it look very easy. I was not moving that metal the way I wanted to. This video is very useful...thanks
This dude is a boss... My only criticism is that a few of those strikes were on cold steel. I would worry about tiny fractures. Other than that...this dude just murdered that in record time. (While ripping a cig)
@@richlabombard6780 lol, Forged in Fire sets bladesmiths up to fail. If you can't point out the super crucial step they skip in round one, this debate isn't worth having
Lots of yoofloob people take note- that anvil is absolutely FIRM on its mounting and DOESN'T flex or bounce around or move around at all. The only way that an anvil used for forging steel should be mounted
he's fast allright. i can forge a knife pretty well, but it would take me far longer. should practice every day but it isn't very practical to do that.
Power when needed. Delicacy when needed. Amazing! Question; does that style of propane forge have a name? Iv'e seen some folks use them but I was wondering if there was an advantage to having that style over the ones with the burner on top? Is it just a matter of choice? Does the work rest on anything in the forge or is it just floating in the heat?
when a man can hammer out 20 knives in a day and finish in a week . with sheath and sell them on a weekend and turn a good buck for a skinning knife he is making some jack but you have to stay under the gun ..
I’m sure Crocodile Dundee can tell you that that’s not a knife 🔪,who can’t forge a blade that small with thin stock in 6 minutes 🤷🏽♂️😉 Good work either way 💪🏽
Neels you and my friend/mentor Stephan Fowler make me sick....you guys bang out a knife in less time then it takes me to forge the tip and BEGIN working on the bevels.....I've watched Steven forge 3 knives to ready for grinding like seriously just cleanup work in the time it took me to get my tip and bevels shaped hadn't even started on the handle let alone any planishing to clean up hammer marks...
Dear Mr Neil Vanderbilt My name is Jay and I got into knifemaking for reasons which I really do not want to get into because of a lack of honesty and transparency within the industry itself. So my question is, I notice a lot people just hanging out are they like family members? Can anyone just go over there and hangout because this is more up my alley sort of thing. Also seeing that I will traveling from America what kind of accommodations will be provided for me? My lifestyle requires certain nessasities which my health depends on like HBO and Netflix and free Wifi.
People think that hand forged knives take days to make. No they don't, you can make them in a matter of minutes if you know what you are doing. That however does not mean that they are chep. It took this man decades to get that good and you better pay him for all that work, and pay him well.
Dear Mr Neal Vandenburger I am new to the industry which I got into for all the right reasons but I won't get into at this time. I'm writing you because I have a question, do you think if I ever want to be a master bladesmith like yourself that maybe I should stop watching RU-vid videos and bothering bladesmith with stupid questions wasting time or should I go outside to my forge and actually practice those techniques that you show us? Your friend Jay the Mexican from East Side San Jose California
Upon further review of your instructional video the level difficulty is minimum and I will have no problem applying these techniques for the time, because it looks pretty easy so I decided to stay indoors and watch RU-vid videos.
Lol ... Jay brother, I like the way you think. Soak up as much info as you can without straining a muscle will unfortunately only get you a RU-vid diploma in smithing. Get into your shop and make stuff, ever if it's trouble ... ;)
@@NeelsVandenBerg Dear Mr Vandenburger I am new to the industry which I got into because of what I thought at the time was a good reason. Anyways I just posted my first video which is of my forge and I was wondering if you want to buy it? It's an organic forge made from all natural materials ( except for the blowdrier and air supply line ) ( and nails that secure the whole thing together ) You should really check it out! It's a hi-tech organic forge that's just totally hi-tech and organic!
So FORGING MUST be a speed sport now ! . No .. Daylight forging , hes overheated the knife already . Just about the worse demo I've ever seen .... And the skills of bladesmithing are going down the toilet ! No wonder watching this rubbish .
