About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

hahahahaha I died when that fire brick fell. I spend literally half my forging time trying to pick up hot fire brick and not setting my shop on fire. Great work keep the content coming!

Hey Jeremy great video as always as regarding the drill press a sharp wood drill with a point works really great on those small g10 parts doesn't cut as ''chunky'' as a normal one 👍 also a small vice for model making is a great addition to hold those and they are pretty cheap 👍

Jeremy, ever consider mounting a magnet to your 2x72 to hold that wrench or the two or three wrenches needed for that sander? Also, for thin material drilling on your drill press, use a stepped bit. It will not grab the material as much.

Nice knife dude. And that handle is something else. Perhaps knife making is your thing. Thanks for sharing Jeremy.

Nice Gyoto /Deba hybrid! File knives are a favorite of mine to make for the easy heat treat and dependable results. The spalted handle is smokin ' cool! You can cold blue the blade and wipe on canola to slow down the oxidation for kitchen use. ✌

Only a couple of things stand out to me, and they are mostly subjective. First, it looks like you could have let the steel get a bit hotter on some of those heats - though it is difficult to tell the color of the steel from a camera, let alone with daylight coming in. Second, and this is just my opinion from my own experience, it looks like your anvil may be a little low. When I first started, I had mine around that height and I started noticing some back pains from it. Raised it a few inches and I wasn't quite as slouched over it, and so far so good. Other than that, the forging process looks good. Keep up the amazing work!
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 3 года назад
I agree with you on both of those points. I should have let the steel heat up a bit more (I got better at that toward the end) and I feel like my anvil too low as well. I heard it was supposed to be at you knuckles when you stand up closed fist but that feels low to me. I am planning on raising it up a bit and I’m glad to hear that made a difference for you. Cheers👍

@@Simplelittlelife I had heard that exact same thing when I started! I think this just goes to show that everyone is different, even with anvil heights!

sir this is jessie, ya biggest fan from texas.i love everything you do and have learned a GREAT deal from just watching you. may i make 2 suggestions ? if you raised your anvil some lil bit higher you would have a more comfortable time with your forging. second get ya self a wooden mallet to "straighten" your work piece when she bows from the hammer,you wont have to planish out the dings form the straightening process. your fan jessie

Why Do you use a convex Platten to grind the secondary bevel

Sehr schönes Messer Jeremy, hab auch noch ein paar Feielen herum liegen. Könnte man mal ausprobieren. Beim abschrecken lieber nur vor oder zurück Bewegungen machen keine seitlichen, erhöht den Verzug beim Härten. Gruß Rainer

@@Simplelittlelife Your product looks good. The only thing I would suggest is that you work your steel hotter. Don't let that high carbon steel get too cool and still pound on it. You'll end up with cracks. But, you make beautiful knives and this is no exception.

The temperatures you're working that metal at look way too cold maybe it's just your camera your Forge needs some serious work you're needing a reducing atmosphere inside of the Forge plus get two lemon yellow Heat over 2000 degrees if you have that reducing atmosphere you will not burn your metal when you pound on cold metal you put stress in to the metal it can cause cracking you're more likely to crack a piece of metal at 950 degrees then you are at room temperature I wish you luck on your first million Hammer blows I've got well over 2 million and my Master's got well over four million it's all about Hammer blows and Hammer control stand tall and swing your Hammer like a man a loose grip with a fat handle and sticky tape a hammer blow starts at the toes and ends with the whip of the wrist it took me almost eight years with training you should watching videos it will help your ergonomics and prevent the hammer from hitting you in face and leaning over like that is not good for your back if we plan on doing this for a long time we need to take care of AR body and prevent any injury if possible it is expensive and scary and sometimes it makes it hard to get back on the horse you have very nice Annville it is easy to get anvil Envy the truth to be is any large piece of metal will work and all about Hammer blows keep hammering
