A uk robin, about 1/3 the size of a US one, has a habit of coming in my house or car looking for food. Usually I can open a window & it goes, but two nights ago I only discovered it when I put the bedroom light on & with the window full open & food outside it would not go out. I feared I might injury it trying to catch it, so I went to bed. It roosted somewhere & woke me at first light flapping at the window & then shot through the window when I opened it. It’s fun to have wildlife around! Thanks for sharing!

Cool to see you doing something else as well as blacksmithing, I like the start to finish format of this video too and you've inspired me to make some nice scoops, I make fugly trowels out of bits of old washing machine sides, theyre super useful for all sortsof things and only take about 20 minutes to make but theyre really ugly to look at. Your seed scoop is a thing of beauty and I am quite certain your lady was very pleased with it too.

Nice scoop, turned out Great, I love that Cherry colour against iron. I turn a lot. I think I'd do that the other way. While the front end is fat I'd near finish the ball at the tailstock end. Then work towards the socket incrementally. After all the socket cone isn't critical finish wise and you can cut almost all the way through at the tailstock since it isn't driving. Or all the way lastly and cut the socket with a saw. Hard to tell, but it looks like you can skew your roughing gouge a lot more. And I'm afraid you have jumpy bevels, I find they ride better hollow ground with the slightest of flat hone. I'd forego the scraper or at least shear scrape at a 45° twist to limit contact width and tearout.

Nice project. I don't have a bowl swage, but I guess a stump could work. I just finished an online spoon carving class from John C Campbell, and watched some great videos from "Zed Outdoors" on RU-vid. I can see carving the handle. Have you ever made any spoon carving tools, sloyd knives and scoop knives? There are more ways than one to do things, and I have a suggestion for the brass bushing you put in the end of the handle. How about, after drilling the hole, chamfer the opening both sides to break the sharp edges and give a bit of a bevel? Then install your brass ferrule into the hole. I am sure you have lots of drift punches. Use one that would fit inside the brass tubing to make a flare. No glue required (unless you hit it too hard) and it will never come out.

I'm curious about the bees was and pine tar mixture and how well it works. Also, did you mix it yourself? What do you think is the benefit of mixing your finish? Like, I've seen some other smiths do something like linseed oil and bees wax for example. I appreciate your wisdom, Switzer. Well done, as always.

@BlackBearForge

The bit has spurs to cut the out diameter of the hole, but they can be a bit aggressive and cause chipping. So turning backwards a little help start the cut and reduce the chipping, at least in theory.
