no, you didn't pay too much, and you know it. if you were doing it to make a buck only, a couple of body parts would pay for it and the rest would be profit, if any are good enough to sell. What's an original fender bring these days, I haven't kept up with prices recently.
Dear@@mustie1 I thought nearly the same. But maybe it is a very special lid? I guess he simply loves blue VW rust buckets without floor panels (isn't it his 3rd now?). And maybe if you like something and want to have it absolutely you sometimes pay what the owner wants to have. ;-) :-) Seriously: In this case 5150mxVW should have paid the scrap metal value at max (only my opinion). Best regards luck and health.
I'm pretty sure the nitrous button was a one year only part, but was also found on the Schwimmagens of that same year. Helped get out of the water. But seriously folks, picking up a car is always an adventure- I hope you feel better soon!
Nice parts car for the money! Just saw a convertible super in my area for the same $ Should easy be worth the effort dragginig her out! Thanks for the update!
I have to tag along to see what you have planned for this one. I hope a total refurbish is it's future. I would love to find one myself for a song. There is some type mystic about them that are interesting to refurbish in my opinion. Thumbs Up!
His son drove to HS , then around college time decided to restore it / disassemble it , remove body , and you know the rest ....Thank you for droppin in Jeffrey
Soon as i saw the BMX, i was praying you would say what it was.. Team Murray bmx, i've heard of those.. Shame it wasn't a Rampar or PK Ripper ! that car looking rather sad condition wise, But i guess one day it might hit the road again.
yeah , murray was a dept store bike ...nothing too special . Yeah , I've had worse get back on the road Welshy👍. I found a guy a town over from me who has like 150 80's - 90's Bmx bikes ....crazy
@@5150mxVW 150 ? That's a lot of bikes.. Yeah would like to see that car hit the road again, i saw a 72 / 73 Beetle other day in our town. The Jean's edition one. Did you get that one in USA ?
I would have come with to help. Maybe one time when you are feeling better. I remember pictures of that one. loved the angle of all the frozen wheels dragging. Had to bring the whole family in for that one. 👍E-🦸♂️
$300...I think yes! Jason you are getting a very special collection of these "transparent floor Bugs", all repairable no doubt...has the "little lady" forgiven you?
Hi Gary , yea , 300 was a good deal ....and it would be nice to find one with heater channels in it ....this one was bought in June , so it was grandfathered in lol . Happy Monday !
,,,,,,,dude,,,,,,,Flintstone power...!..😯....it's a keeper.....😐....should run after a few minutes of tape and wire,,,good luck!..cool...land o' lakes,wi...keep the wood for floor panels??.😯
I've seen worse..a new floor pan a little metal work and you're in business....no I'm not being sarcastic..I've fixed worse..Cheers and good luck..🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think that you, Brian and Mustie need a Baja in your lives. You'd be off to a good start. Maybe have squares of carpet in the truck as sliders for you next rescue?
1965 - 66 for that one . I bought one worse than that It had no bottom on the tunnel. I got it loaded onto a trailer and i was thinking 'What have I bought" and was saying goodbye to the guy and he said do you want the rest of it? The rest of it ? yes in the garage. There was another one in the garage and it hadn't been advertised but it was included and a pick up load of parts. That has only happened to me once. now they are few and far between.
awesome story , and great score ....you just don't know unless you GO ! Sounds like the time I called on an oval listed for sale ...he is telling me about the car and thought he mentioned another one ...the other one i said ? Yeah , I have a 56 parts car that goes with it . ...sweet :)
Hi Jason this was a hard one to watch your pain especially when your hand got trapped hopefully there’s enough bits to break even with it, you can’t win them all but good video😁👍
I used to drive a flatbed tow truck picking up wrecks for the scrapyard. They sent me out to a remote area to pick up two Beetles. When I got there, there there were three! Didn't want to make a second trip and waste another hour, so I loaded them up sideways, door to door to door, and off to town I went. I wish I'd taken pictures.
You can't help yourself! You just have to do it! NO! You can't park them over here!!! ;-) This one should tell you something! Should have gone BEFORE the leaves buried everything. The pedal assembly is there, what can you complain about after seeing that? They said it was a driver in June! Too bad you waited so long to pick it up. Those wheel dollies would have been good for that loading. You should have it on the road by when?
Hi Jason, something I’ve been meaning to ask you for ages.... What are you doing with all these cars? I mean are some parts cars, or do you hope to restore them all? I can’t help thinking that with all the projects you have, that you spread yourself too thin if you know what I mean. I love your content though, and of course Josh is a superstar!
Gotta agree with you here...I'm all for saving old cars and getting them back on the road and I love Jason's enthusiasm but everybody has their limits. I'd feel a lot less stressed to look out my window every morning and see a handful of restorable cars and a nice stash of NOS spare parts for them than a yard full of hulks like this with each requiring a herculean effort to bring back to life.
Hi Chris , I passed my limit dozens ago ...I have a local guy who has gotten 4 of these wasted " hulks " back on the road ( painted / body work DIY ) ...it's pretty amazing to see . Mustie1 has bought 3 cars , so they will back on the road ....some i just pass on , find a home for . I guess I prefer " herculean effort " vs battery tray repair and wiper blades :).....stop staring out the window and get after them :)))
Really enjoy watching you save them from mother nature; you do not need to answer my question, but was wondering , what's your mission statement..is it the fun finding as many as you can or is there a master plan to rebuild them. My son calls you his VW hero & that you should wear a cape with a VW emblem on it.. I told this story once before but when he was back in middle school he saw a beetle in the farm field and the only tree in the field was on top of the car. He had to get it out of the field and save what he could of the car. Our friend who had the equipment for the job, saw how much he was effected by it. Talk about a love for VW's no video's but have photo's need to show you what they saved..
Hi Dan , I have a core of cars I have a vision for . I do enjoy chasing them , collecting them , clean em up , see if they talk to me ....the ones that don't speak to me go to NH lol . you should show some pics of that poor bug in one of your vids , what a cool cool story ! Please tell your Son thank you for me and stay warm👍
Jason, ever tried or used a link pin VW tow bar too load one? Or is your trailer not that long? All in all aside from a donor pan and shock towers : ( their's always somebody looking for parts. At least you scored a link pin.... but I'm bias. If the Murray had been CW, Elf, Hutch, PK you would have been doing the happy dance. Thanks buddy
No I never have , and yeah trailer is too short . I have never this much of an issue with one yet . I guess i found a home for the Nos 1/4 panels lol . Yeah , finding a classic old school Bmx'r would of been👍. thank you GP
All 4 wheels locked up...check. Steering box locked up...check. Got a nasty cold brewing, now you've wasted your energy well into the night...check. This Beetle isn't coming off the trailer until spring. LOL Sea Blue cars sell fast. Put the fenders back on free up the wheels and steering, and move it down the road.
Had better get the "paddles" out for this beat down VW Beetle & yell out " CLEAR" ... as its on life support ... A project vehicle it certainly is. If a purchase for parts, should be good. For anyone who will actually restore the remains of this VW Beetle, two thumbs up ! Sarcastic wit, be it good natured or a bit dark, always encouraged ! Cheers !
In one week I've watched you make the best and quite possibly the worst VW purchases...lol. You should negotiate with Brian for rights to the name "VW nut"...I'm just kidding, of course, please don't take it to heart. I know what it means to obsess on a hobby and, truth be told, I'm a little bit jealous. Your wife is a saint and I'm looking forward to seeing your projects progress. You have the space, the cars, the parts and the ability- and, as always, thanks fer takin' us along...
VW was still using moon hub caps in 65. They started the pancake hub caps in 66. Also, a 66 would have a chrome "1300" badge on the engine cover. It's the only year with that badge. I'm CT too along the central coast.
its a 1965 no defrost vents, first year of the bigger windows the wipers park to the left. still has the linkpin front beam. the late 40 hp 1200cc or 1192cc engine is missing but parts are there. as 65 is the last year of the 40 hp. one wide 5 wheel is a 1966-1967 type, one wheel on the car is a late 14 in bus rim the reason why the wheels can be seized the brake drums are rusted solid to the shoes. keep in mind the electrical system in this car is 6 volt if you restore it and go to 12 volt. as 1966 the 40 hp in the US was changed to a one year only engine in the US the 1300cc as 66 has the central defrost vent, the slotted wheels with flat hub caps, the first year for the ball joint axle beam, and the 4 way emergency flashers which u can activate when off the side of the road, slow speeds or stuck behind in traffic with a line of vehicles and malifunctioning traffic light as the flashers can be used when stopped for a school bus unloading and loading kids. i would also check to be sure your frame tunnel is not rusted like i had a 70 bug the tunnel rotted the bottom seperated where the pans attach and was up behind the pedal cluster. thats what you have to look for when buying a bug, Karmanm Ghia, or Thing.
I did not know that about the wipers , I did notice that 66/67 rim ...i'll have to check i didn't notice the bus rim ...and like I mentioned to others I had 4 seized rims , a 9k lb winch and dusk on the horizon so i just dragged it on vs messing with 4 seized drums . It has already been converted to 12v . Thank you for sharing all the great info Derek , I appreciate it
Excellent job making this video, especially since you did all the camera work yourself! Good angles! Fifteen minutes for me, but how many hours did you edit out? Thanks!
Obviously, Jen didn't kill you. Hope the flu didn't have you down too long, but at least you got that out of the way for the season. The Bug came with a free pet spider and excellent ventilation ... :D ... Hey, these older cars need to be saved, even if only for the original old bits. Being a Mini owner, I have seen a lot of older cars rescued just for that reason alone. It may be well beyond a practical restoration, but it still can donate parts to another project. Better than seeing them go for a few dollars worth of scrap. Cheers, and stay well!
She will really appreciate the attention. It's a great colour! Christmas is coming soon. A nice piece of gold for your lady .........you bought this in June so it really doesn't count? Right?
I do like the sea blue and java green beetle's of this vintage . Yes , i am going to have to step it up this year ....haha, yeah this one was grandfathered in :) . Thank you Ivor👍
I’ve got all the parts that can be taken off of a ‘62 hiding in the attic above my garage because I didn’t want to know what my wife would have said. You’ve got your money right there in parts, and other cars will live on because this one was saved. Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for taking us along on the trip.
Make sure you insure that gem...for at least $500. Love the power steering. I noticed no VW adverts during the stream but plenty of dog food for some strange reason. Maybe Patina is watching these?
The tires look good ! ....so I would say reasonable price with all those spares. Might be worth getting another VW enthusiast to sort the body (floorpan) to a rebuild state. If the rest of the car is then mostly mechanical restorations there might be a profit ?. Nice project for someone with a MIG welder and plenty of time on their hands....
I would think there's $300 worth of Parts there look like all the glass was good I live in Central Florida around the Orlando area the prices for VW down here are just insane crazy high enjoy the channel and thank you for saving the old stuff
Hi Charles , your right , I should be able to find a good home for it for 300 . Thank you for the kind words and have a nice Sunday ....I hope you went to Bug Jam , looked awesome👍
A noble and valiant effort, Jason! For all the energy you invested, he should have paid you. I think $300 was top dollar for this one though I'm sure you can realize more than that if you part it out.
One way to knock the flu out of ya. With all that you have dragged home in the last few weeks I'm surprised your wife is still speaking to you LOL. Good parts car though :)
Yeah, that was something to watch. Nothing for nothing, but you might want to try putting the wood under the jack in the future and slide the jack over rather than trying to slide the car on the tires if you ever encounter that problem again.. Not to worry, I know what its like to do things the harder way. Such is life and thanks for sharing.
Dear 5150mxVW. Uhmm... are you still married respectively do you really think that you stay married after unloading this? :-) ;-) 2) Good grief! You obviously like VW rust buckets without floor panels (especially blue cars)!?!? ;-) :-) Maaan, I definitely don't want to be in your hide tonight! Or is skin the right word for this phrase? Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health. Especially luck this time because I think that you definitely will need it at home (again)!
Ah, Jason buddy, all you need to do is build a 12 car carport along the back edge of your property. Put the 9 cars you own in a line. Tell your wife you can only get 3 more anyway and then it's full up. Adjust for how many cars you do really have :)
Hi CE , I'm not really sure at the moment , I was thinking of giving it away to a sub if it was more complete . Thank you , all the best to you as well .
indeed , but freeing up one could take a 1/2 hr or more if you have to remove the hub and i had 4 frozen ...soooo with not much daylight left and a 9k winch onboard I just went for it . Great tip though James , thank you for sharing .
The body looks like it’s in ok shape. Probably have to completely disassemble it, then put it back together before it would be in decent shape again. Hope you brought all the parts that were laying around in the yard with you. You’ll have to make a video to show us how this project turns out!
$300 eh? Well there are some decent parts but man, she's as rough as a stucco bathtub. I'd say if you were right next door then $300 would be worth it in spare parts but driving 3 hours to get that and the difficulty in loading it somewhat make it questionable. But honestly after the spares, etc. you should be able to get your money + some back out of it if you decide to sell some of the parts once you've distributed parts out among your other cars that need them. The crappy part is that you probably don't need any of those parts since you got that massive stash a few weeks ago.
haha, the crappy part will be dragging it off my trailer :) . Worth the 300 for sure , just a 9 1/2 hr day ....thank you Shane , hope u had a good weekend .
I hate the slotted wheels, but I like them when they have the moon caps on them. Throw some whitetails on them and slam it. Thats my style 👍 even though its non year appropriate, I'd still rock it
