A subscriber reached out and said they got out of racing several years ago but still had their race car hauling ramp truck but would like to part with it. So of course we jumped on the opportunity to own another ramp truck! This 1978 Chevrolet C30 had been off the road for nearly 8 years. Let's see if we can get it back on the road! If you're interested in purchasing the ramp truck in as seen condition, it can be yours for $4,000. As always, thanks for watching!

The suction created by a flowing fluid is called the Venturi effect. It's used in carberators and to pull soap into the water stream in a pressure washer. For the flow to continue after the air is off, the draining end of the tube needs to be lower than the gasoline in the old tank (siphoning)

a longer hose and the bucket on the floor would keep the siphoning happening. It does work. I've done it.

That there high nickel block is a stronger block than normal. Throw in the fact that it's a 4 bolt main and she's a good candidate for a rebuild or even a stroker kit and put in another project

You were correct to vent the second line on the fuel tank. It originally vented the tank to the charcoal canister.

High Nickel content blocks were cast for trucks back when a truck had a small gas engine. The added nickel content made the block tougher (less prone to crack), but also harder to machine which is why the factory only used it in truck engines.

To siphon fuel or coolant just blow over end of siphon hose works same as carburetor effect but then put hose tip lower than lowest level of liquid to remove

I speak racecar hauler. The aluminum brace to keep the body from flopping in the wind is spiraled that way to add strength and makes it adjustable. You can put a Swedish nut lathe on it and wind in in or out, once maybe twice before it gets brittle. It's how you form car bodies. All the other farmer fixes you found are because the thing had one job, and if it broke down at the track you had to use whatever you had to make it work to get the car back home. Usually you'd use parts off the racecar and then replace the parts on the racecar with new stuff. At the end of the night you're tired, and ready to go home, so good enough to get home is good enough. The problem comes from what was good enough to get home doesn't act up again, it doesn't get changed. The high nickle blocks were and maybe still are sought after by circle track guys because they're a stronger block.

The radiator cap is a pressure relief cap. It kinda helps from getting severely burned when you have to cool it off quick.

these young kids, they just don't know how it was in the day, when your crap box overheated pretty regular and you had to use twist ties to connect your starter cables. It was pretty common knowledge your crap box was worn out at 60,000 miles too. Our expectations on longevity were not set very high.

That lever on the radiator cap relieves the pressure from the hot radiator and lets it run into the overflow bottle so you can take the cap off without it blowing up in your face.

Chevrolet Bowtie engine blocks are special-order engine blocks manufactured by the GM High Performance division. Bowtie blocks are used for racing, including NASCAR, and other high-performance applications. Available in both big and small block displacements, Bowtie blocks are manufactured with high tolerances and special machining, enabling them to withstand 600 horsepower or more. Chevrolet offers a full line of Bowtie blocks, each designed for a different purpose with individual specifications. Identifying Bowtie engine blocks requires you to locate both the bowtie casting mark and the block casting number.

Drill a hole in the siphon hose to put the end of your blow gun in and blow air through the hose when the end of the hose is below the level of the liquid that your trying to move and it’ll start the siphon. That’s how I drain water off the pool cover with 3/4” hose every spring.
