This video just came up as I've just watched Nearest And Dearest, Harry Worth and now watching Goodnight Sweetheart on That's TV 3 😁 still can't beat the old sitcoms.
Another funny trip down Memory Lane video... Most of the 1970s Situation Comedies 🎭 mentioned passed me by... I do have fond memories of enjoying “You’re only Young Twice” “Room Service” “Get Some In” and “The Squirrels.” Another forgotten comedy I enjoyed was “Twos Company” starring Donald Sinden and Elaine Stritch. Many of the 1980s Comedies I had heard of, but the two I enjoyed watching were “The River” and Dear John. Another forgotten Series from the 1980s, I enjoyed watching, was the Irish Comedy “Foreign Bodies.” Set in Northern Ireland, it is about the romance between a nurse from Dublin, and a Protestant car mechanic. It had a strong storyline, but I missed the last few episodes, and never found out how it ended...Thanks again Stu, and as always, looking forward to your next video 📹
"Queenies Castle" (1970-72) was filmed at Yorkshire TV on Kirkstall Rd, Leeds but was based in the now demolished Quarry Hill Flats (1938 - 1978) I was taken to the YTV studios around 1971 to watch a recording of an episode with my Mother (I was 11 at the time) it was a great experience that I remember to this day, I'm 64 now. . . . . . . Hilda Baker was a great comedy actress.
Wouldn’t have thought Queenies Castle was unknown. Its amusing. Love watching it on RU-vid. Dont know why The Wackers was criticised. Most comedy are cliches. And its not to only comedy that has ever sent up an area. Many also do that as well.
You have such an obvious affection for these old comedies, it's lovely to see. I'm not sure it's makes you the best judge of how good they are though! So when you say that Don't Drink the Water "isn't great", it makes me think it must be truly horrendous!
I was born in 93 there's just something about old British sitcoms that I love idk if it's the way they are filmed with the fuzzyness around the image quality or something else they just seem very comforting to me it's so strange to explain I just love them. I get a warm fuzzy feeling. A lot of these shows are older than me lol great video by the way. As a big fan of David Jason I didn't realise he was in those other comedies!
Brilliant selection! I remembered the majority of these programmes. Thanks for saying if they can be found on RU-vid. I’ve made a list of a few I’d like to see again. I’ve already watched an episode of The Wackers 😂. For its time I thought the stunt with the car and train in L for Lester was quite daring. Also nice to see it was Hilda Braid who also appeared in Citizen Smith and always called Robert Lindsay Foxy 😂
Glad you enjoyed it! It's surprising that the scene with the car on the train tracks in L for Lester isn't better known really as, like you say, it was quite daring and something that hadn't been seen in a sitcom before.
It's ironic you say Maggie and Her was little known, because that's the only one Ive heard of, and watched as a kid in this thoroughly enjoyable video (so far)
Wonderful video thanks. I really loved Keep it in the family and cowboys. I was not a fan of the Andy Cap series. Kinvig was interesting and I quite liked it. I really loved Dear John which was repeated a few years ago.
I enjoyed this foray into forgotten tv of the 70s and 80s. I didn't think The Wackers was that bad a series from what I remember of it, but I always enjoy Ken Jones' performances. He was great in The Squirrels too. "The accounts department of a tv rental company" was there ever more of a throwback to the 70s than that?! Talk about work expanding to fill the time allotted! I also liked Cowboys, it was brilliant. There were a few dodgy episodes but the chemistry between Roy Kinnear and Colin Welland was great. Lucky Feller was another one I enjoyed, it had a cosy feel to it. I think it was on around teatime and I used to look forward to it. Don't remember Room Service at all. There was another one with Matthew Kelly called Holding the Fort with Patricia Hodge. Do you remember Thick as Thieves from 1974 with John Thaw and Bob Hoskins as two ex-cons? Pat Ashton was the love interest...of both of them !!
Some of the 80s ones I remember when they were broadcast (Hallalujah for exampĺe) some of the 70s ones only as repeats (you're only young once was repeated about 6 years ago on ITV2).

Hi Stu. It's good to see your living room wallpaper as a backdrop. Did some writers actually write some of these sitcoms specifically as vehicles for the cast members?
Hi Stu, nice videos keep them coming. Just one question about binge watching your videos,i haven't come across a great British sitcom Young at Heart with Sir John Mills,or i have missed it somewhere along the line, would love some info regarding that sitcom. All the best
What ever forgotten I've watched them all and got a large amount of them on dvd and video so only forgotten by them that don't like classic British comedy shows as you have to be stoned to watch today's comedy show that an't even funny as I've see funnier thing's dead on it's back at the bottom of a river old British comedy you can't beat it😂
Does anybody remember The Other One with Richard Briers and Michael Gambon? It was made soon after The Good Life but apparently was a flop and Briers said it wasn't his greatest moment. I've watched series one and absolutely loved it but I cannot find series two.
@@QuoPaperPlane Yes, it did come across like that. I did watch the second series when it was shown on tv at the time, and if you think you are not going to ever find it to watch, I can tell you, very roughly, what happened in the very last episode, as I remember.
@@stephenderbyshire7849 Well, it seems that sales of series one didn't fare well and series two was, understandably, never released, so it looks as though I'm not going to get a chance to watch it. Out of curiosity then, how did it end?
@@QuoPaperPlane Brian (M Gambon) found out that Ralph (R Briers) was making up or exaggerating the stories and situations he was telling him. When Brian confronted him about it, he said he was very disappointed and felt let down. Ralph felt so bad that he decided to leave the country, I think, but Brian arrived in time to stop him and give him some heart felt speech, and I think they just smiled at each other and drove off in a car, or walked back to the house.
Stu, you missed Chintz. Easily the worst sitcom ever made. It was broadcast by ITV, focusing on the ups and downs of a boring amateur photographer and his suburban wife. Absolute shite. Fairly Secret Army - that was very well written and performed. Top acting. Shame it flopped...cock up on the commissioning front.
most of the 70s sitcoms were very much of the time...i look back now and cant believe what little content and interest they had per episode. only my opinion but comedy changed greatly in the 80s and didnt suit my sense of humour at all.
