The amazing borough of the Bronx has so much rich history , but it's often overlooked. As a reporter/producer bronx native Derek Woods has brought many of these stories to light. Here's a few of them presented in their original format from his television series Bronx Magazine (courtesy Bronxnet)

Thanks for sharing this video! I loved it! I grew up in the Bronx in the 60's and Freedom Land is like a distant memory to me. I remember being in a car driving up to the entrance seeing the flags waving and the letters but I don't remember actually going inside. Those were the best times back then and we were fortunate to have Freedom Land so close to us in the Bronx. ❤

I remember Freedom land. I was 9 years old. A Freedomland would be exciting to have here for the children in the Bronx today.

I remember putting out the Chicago Fire. And when we were on one of those ore buckets we past over the stagecoach being robbed. The robbers were on horseback and they were shooting their "six guns". There was a burger and hotdog place by the water, and when you threw a bit of bun in the water hundreds of fish went after it, it looked like the water was boiling with so many fish thrashing around. Nice.

@@bowwinkle6651 I lived right around the corner, on 189th and Beaumont Ave, and my mom used to take me there, at Kiddy Land, when I was a baby, whenever she could. However, I now live there where Freedomland was, in Co-op City, and was raised here, and as a young teenager, about 15, way before Bay Plaza Mall was built, I was one to go on excursions, with a few friends, and we had found the remains of Freedomland! We encountered some Disassembled Rides all packed up, with a few other broken up Ride Cars, an Old Trolley Car, and a pile of papers, containing Old Pay Checks, Game Tokens, and the Yellow Freedomland Admission and Ride Tickets, printed are the Seasons of 1962, 63, and 64. Well I was born in 1965, a year after Freedomland closed, and thinking now about, how ironic it all survived, out in the open, and with little to no fading from all the elements, for 16 Years? Quite a Find of Bronx History, and a Little Bit Memorabilia! Be well and safe, GOD Bless 🙏❤️👑❤️

My dad tells the story of seeing “Little” Stevie Wonder perform at Freedomland for the first time. There are some relics of Freedomland that are still around. You can find a commemorative stone and I think some water paddles/wheels in front of the Dunkin Donuts on Bartow Avenue. I hear there’s also a small exhibit in the library in Co-Op City in the Bartow Mall. That’s said, Freedomland is as much apart of the history of the history of NYC as the famed Coney Island. I wish there was more done to preserve and honor the history of this fun and magical place! Also, have you ever heard of Starlight Park? It was an amusement park by the Bronx River. There was a roller coaster and folks liked to go swimming and stargazing there. This was during the 20s and 30s.

Freedom land was built with a limited time. They always knew Co op city was going to be there. Actually Co op city was up in the 70s.

I wonder if this area was a remnant of a mud flooded city Built up already before the amusement park co-opted it and made it an amusement park. Just look at the Bronx rubble of a post destruction Old World Order. Look up mud flood and Disneyland that whole layout is questionable.
