This 1970 Chevelle sat forgotten for decades in a car port in Georgia. After a lot of work and new parts, we were able to get it running and driving again on its original driveline, but just how much does it have left? Has it lost a step after sitting for all of this time? Will it survive or blow up on the spot? We take it to the track to see just what this old muscle has left!

Fuel pressure gauge would help allot. Keep up the good updates. 😁👍

You need to adjust the spring tension on the secondary flapper. There is screw (upside down screwed to upper base plate) with an allen key that locks the screw (passenger side). The tighter the tension of the flapper and it will stop it from falling on its face. Do not go too tight as it will distort the spring and ruin it. Use Allen wrench to hold spring tension then tighten the screw. Drive it and when it stops falling on its face you have it perfect

You should put an app on your phone that tracks your times for 1/4 mile, 0-60, and more. There are free app such as "drag racer". I know it doesn't help your immediate problem, but you can work out issues before going back to the track. I like the videos, keep up the good work.

Yeah, I may have to go "phone dyno" on this thing until the tracks open up again or I take a really long road trip to find one. The only tricky part with that is getting the vehicle weight right and having a good phone mount. I've just been jamming my phone into the ash-tray that refuses to stay closed at present where it likes to come flying out on launches.

@@JamesSorenson LOL, the ashtray thing sounds about right. I'd pretend to give you some advice but I'm fighting a real lazy launch and then a ping up high on my 69 GTO. I look forward to seeing how things go for you on the next video.

I've had trouble with Carter mechanical fuel pumps. They have been running about 9 psi out of the box. Way too much for aQJet. Needs a fuel pressure regulator. Enjoying your content, I have a '69 ElCamino SS396

Sadly, it did not go the way I hoped it would, but overall the car has really come around. The difference between the very first test drive and the way it runs and drives now is so far apart its hard to fathom it is the same car.

I would get rid of that carburetor and put a Holley on there maybe a double pumper or a vacuum secondary

I picked it up from marketplace for next to nothing just to replace the factory quadrajet and get the car up and going. I've been fairly impressed with how well it has run for being a dirt cheap knockoff and I don't believe it is the cause of the current issues. I'm still undecided on the future plans for the L78 that I'll be dropping in, as I had planned on going EFI which was why i didn't just opt for a larger, better carburetor from the start. I may still go that route though, especially now that I've spent a few dollars on some low pressure fuel upgrades.

You need the low volume pump from summit, had the same problem with my Chevy tried two different factory replacement both put out 12 psi when You should have 4-6 psi, problem solved.

Get rid of the Q Bog Carb and put a Holley Vacuum secondary in place of it. A 670-770 CFM Ultra Street Avenger carburetor from Holley

Hah! It really did live up to the name in this one, though I'm not sure I can quite fault the carburetor, as any carburetor is going to suffer when there are delivery issues.

@@JamesSorenson it's worth a shot. when i had my 72 SS with same engine. it woke it up big time. When i started driving the car harder and for longer trips, The Q jet was just not keeping up even after i modded it. WHen i changed it out to the Holley, I set the floats, mixture, idle, set linkage with pedal to the floor for WOT with engine off, advanced the igition timing, Holley Electric (red) fuel pump - mounted rear of frame, added headers and off i went. I miss that car, i should never have sold it. Peace from Boston. Love your vids.

I still can't quite decide if I want to go EFI or stick with the old school carburetor. I'm much more familiar with the Holley tuning than the quadrajet, and it would be an appropriate fit for the L78, so I may still yet end up going that route. Boston's one of the few large cities I actually like and I lived out in Cambridge for about 3 years. Still a Red Sox fan!

@@JamesSorenson Stay old school. Go Holley still. Get the red electric fuel pump to go with it. EFI may be a can of worms setting all that up. The 402 loved the night air. My only regret was not getting a better cooling system the last couple o fyears i had it. It had a large 3 row radiator, stock water pump and no electric fans. Hindsight is 20/20 lol. God Bless. Yes, Boston is a cool town in both senses LOL. Have a great rest of your day my friend.

Hi, if you’re going to do decklid gap fitting you better go to the bar for lunch and come back light up a smoke and then complete your work. Because back then that’s how they did it!!!! Lmao!!!!!

I think that's how I need to approach just about everything on this car at this point... 🤣
