I'm a 76 yr new subscriber originating from central NYS & have devoured dozens of your videos in the past 3 days. In the 1980's & 90's we cut for 3 residential homes. We were fortunate to have a John Deere tractor, old manure spreader & pull behind splitter & cut dozen cords of hard wood. You'll know what i mean when i say we called it the poor man's health club. A point of interest, my son sells containers of hard wood over seas to China, Viet Nam & Malaysia among others & travels there 3 times a year. Of course, Covid threw a monkey wrench into his travel & income. Anyway, love your videos & look forward to each new one.

I only do it 2-3 times per year, usually about a month after it get's annoying to look at the piles. Don't know why I put it off as long as I do, but I love getting it done!

Good luck on the Japanese stilt grass control. It's a very invasive weed. I think it will eventually spread across the US. If you look close, it will be going to seed shortly and billions of more seeds will be on your land. I have it just about all over my 25 acres in Virginia. The biggest problem is it crowds out all other small plants from starting. Mike, I have a question on how you operate the curl with the thumb. Kubota sets up the pressure on the thumb to be lower then the bucket curl in order to prevent bending parts and damaging. When you curl with the thumb extended, do you retract the thumb or let the bucket overcome the force of the thumb?

Mike, you probably want to till that opening, instead of spraying that invasive species, since you want to grow crops right there too. Just go in and till it all up once a week until it stops growing.

Or... you could get a flame thrower and torch that invasive species too. Fire can kill off invasive species.

We encountered a road with 10 foot banks on each side. We stopped and I started cutting, Mom keeping the grandson back out of the way. I'm cutting a 2 foot diameter by 20 foot Douglas Fir into rounds, when my Mom...now 91, tapped me on the shoulder, and pointed up.
@donaldpereira2652
@donaldpereira2652 Год назад
The tree was a windfall Douglas Fir, and went completely across road, 10 feet high.
@lonniechartrand
@lonniechartrand Год назад
Hey Melissa, check out "hinge cutting". It may answer your question regarding the green leaves on the downed trees. It does not take much for a tree to keep it's leaves when they are broke. When I hinge cut, I am cutting two thirds of the way through a tree and bending it to the ground. As long as there is a bit of the trunk, with the cambium layer intact, there will be enough to feed the tree tops.
@cartercarter6126
@cartercarter6126 Год назад
The way the trees are laying down almost suggest a "micro burst" happened. Common eastern Canada northern Ontario. Often confused as a small tornado, but tend to be in a small area, then gone.

I've been rolling around on the ground for the past 30 years on my own, and the years before that in the Army just about every morning. Over 50 and still can touch the ground with the palms of my hands and having my legs locked. Never discount stretching in the morning, too many of my friends from high school cannot even touch their toes. 30 year graduation parties kinda show that. Plus, it gives you time to think about what needs to be done the rest of the day.

Try taking an existing tote, modify it as you did with new new one. THEN add a new rail part way back on the top. You won’t have to duck under the front rail as you stack. As for securing it, the bottom of the tote has more substance to it, is there a way to use your chain/clip there?

I've got a huge pile of branches, logs from an old oak tree that broke off of the ground that I cut up into small pieces to burn some day. With it being in a drought here and no rain can't burn it. If i get lucky and get snow might be able to burn. I seen a huge black colored snake sunning itself so i went a different direction. My neighbor down the road set a big brush fire and I could smell it pretty good, i think he is about a mile away. It was pretty windy and super dry. A few houses and woods away from us but still not very smart.
