Southern people are proud of our heritage, we were on the confederate side during the Civil War and our families lost a lot of Sons, Brothers and Father's through it all. There is an international boundry marker still standing from the Republic of Texas in Carthage as well as markers for the old Spanish road. It's important to remember that president Jackson's Indian removal act forced many of our families out this way just 30 years before the Civil War and that the North claimed the South started the war when the truth is the North failed to vacate shipyards and forts when the South seceded and they really weren't theirs anymore.

Is it Front Street Books? Don't worry Sally, we love you as much as we love Marty, both of you are fun, and interesting. What a town with lots of rich history, many times I'll imagine dirt roads, horses, buggies, Chuck wagons, and hitching post instead of vehicles driving down the main streets of some of these towns you give us history lessons on.👍👍👍

Sul Ross “Gradurate” here! Alpine has certainly changed since the late 70’s/80’s. I had many a long neck Pearl at the Toltec in 1979. The Casners were still selling cars then, the Rangra’s hadn’t bought the theater yet and the Casa Blanca served Vinegar Pie.

Nice video Sally and Marty. The 105 Howitzers are in use in Ukraine, many from the 1940s. Stay safe and warm, we had about 5 inches of snow with more to come they say. The snow is really wet also so it turned to ice as the temps fell today.

This is my second comment, on this video. You said, I believe, that you had never seen or heard of a drive thru, beer & wine store. Where I grew up, in Glenn Dale Md., in Prince George's County, the next town close to us, on Seabrook Md., had a drive thru beer & wine store in the 60's thru 90's. Since I now live on Mds., Eastern Shore, I don't know if that drive thru, is still there.

Wow, awesome video. I have never been to Alpine, but I have wanted to go for a long time. I saw a great indie film some years ago called "Dancer, Texas, population 81." It was about a fictitious town east of Alpine. Set in contemporary times, it shows the ups and downs of living in a small, remote town. One of the main characters winds up going to Sul Ross state college in Alpine. A lot of scenes for the film were shot in Alpine. I love the old buildings. I will have to find a way to get out there before I get any more 'historic.' 😉
