Every once in a while someone special comes along. One of these people is Jim Hambrick. Jim could have lived pretty much any lifestyle he chose.....he chose to preserve and promote an American Icon. We appreciate you Jim.
I appreciate this story. I have lived in Illinois now 6 years and from the start, the theme has been pretty static. High taxes, High obligations to pensions and high debt. The same state leaders are still there and so nothing is changing. We do not need more social state policies. We need to remove the countless municipalities, lower the costs, reduce the pension obligations, putting more on workers to own their retirement, just like I did growing up I saved for 30 years through my own 401k that was matched by an employer. What will change for this state if we dont embrace it? Welfare policies dont work. The only way to improve our lives is to get people working, which means lowering taxes, increasing companies profits, which increases investment and hiring in many areas, then people are paid and spending then more business opens up, and it becomes a positive cycle. Of course, why do we have an Opiod crisis? Because people look for ways to take them away from the societal woes of no jobs, no hope, they turn to ways to remove their misfortune. I am not looking to attack any one side, I am providing my point of view in my short time here. Illinois is losing jobs and investment opportunities. Chicago is not the only town, one of the business ownes said it, this is 3 staes, the south, middle and Chicago. They've known this a very long time. Whats changing then?
Thanks, Neal. We're doing all we can to make sure the voices of Illinoisans are being heard at the Illinois Statehouse. For far too long, their voices have been crowded out by special interests.
I am familiar with the Metropolis area along with Massac county. My mother was born and raised in Brookport. All of my family are now gone that once lived there and across the river in Paducah KY. I still have extended family or friends that live in the area and I always have to come to Metropolis and walk the streets where my father purchased my mothers wedding ring. Where they went to the movies and all the other stories that I was often told about in their younger years. My mothers best friend from childhood recently died in Dec. 2020 and we returned for the graveside service. Enjoyed the visit to her family and friends as well as another trip to view the Superman statue, Kincaid mounds, river fronts and other places and memories from my early days too. Still many good people exist in southern Illinois.
Illinois politicians and high taxes send businesses and residents to lower-tax states. Sadly, this will continue because so many Cook County voters are low-information voters.
1992, Carmen Sandiego's superhero wannabe sidekick Wonder Rat made a Superscam robbing the city of all its Clark Kent memorabilia and replacing it with his own personality cult.
I’m just hoping I can find an open parking spot at the new thrive superstore. While I’m there, I’ll try a few slots at harrah’s, stop by the Superman stuff, eat somewhere, buy some scratch tickets and some gas. Smart move, Illinois. Well played.
This town is so run down . Businesses can't keep float. Downtown needs a facelift. So many businesses and storefronts empty abandon. The city is afraid to bring in new businesses. The casino is not bringing people in like they used to. They just let go a whole bunch of people at the casino this last year.
The problem is there's a lot of closed minded individuals who don't like the Superman thing and do not want to embrace it meanwhile their Town suffering because they turn a blind eye to what makes them money.
I've heard a lot of people relate Metropolis, Illinos with Superman. But the fact is Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in Cleveland, Ohio.
I am going to do best to save up over 400 dollars to go down south IL to stay in metropolis and see all the stuff and shop there too. :) so in a year we gonna be down there i love it down there it looks awesome to see
ps no matter other towns in IL the best towns i love is smaller towns towns with history unique to them fighters the best towns i been to not in particular order its hard to choose is so far Alton, Grafton, area ,,, Biship Hill, Nauvoo, Chester, soon to be casey, metropolis, as some of the best i been to far as history unique cool layed back good spirit good heart and just good quality / historic regular towns. They deserve more $$ and more prosper than the bigger boring towns that are. Ps i hate Chicago few things in it to see otherwise who cares.

You need to check out Cahokia mounds. 150 miles up the river. Oldest city in North America. 600 AD. 30000-50000 natives. Many many documentaries made of it
