Oh my God, didn't expect to see Outrageous Fortune on this list. Absolute classic. In my opinion, the prequel Westside (TV3, 2015 - 2020) is even better, as you see the height of the West family's criminal activities spanning from the 1970s in Series 1 to 1990 in Series 6. Excellent program.
Willo the Wisp was the only one of these I even knew. From memory, it was part of my summer of '81, although it aired repeatedly for a few years afterwards. I remember watching the prototype film, (a corporate information film to do with gas leaks, if I remember correctly), where the titular wisp played the part of aforementioned leak, with a number of quips voiced by Kenneth Williams. Having mentioned this show, it reminds me of many 5 minutes shows that were on the end of the children's segment of television on weekday early evenings before the news came on at 5.40. There's the obvious ones like, 'The Magic Roundabout', 'The Wombles', 'Ivor The Engine', 'Crystal-tips and Alistair', and, 'Captain Pugwash', of course, but then there's others which were adapted from newspaper comic strips such as, 'The Perishers', and, 'Fred Bassett', among others. Let's not forget, 'Roobarb', and, 'Noah & Nelly', and, 'The Amazing Adventures of Morph.' There's many others, but that's all that springs to mind.
Just realised we've never mentioned the utterly wonderful 'The Flashing Blade.' Anyone who grew up on kids programmes on the bbc back during 70's school holidays saw this. A french show with an English dub. During a war between France and Spain one French castle is holding out against all the odds. A Spanish officer is determined to take it before an impending truce. A dashing nobleman and his valet come to the castle and head off on a mission to save the day. It turned up on kids programme 'on the waterfront' late in the 80's where they redubbed it with silly voices to brilliant effect. But some complained about that and thus it got it's first repeat in a while as a result. I don't know if I ever actually watched it all the way through till it came to vhs in 2002. And when I finally did I loved it. It's fabulous swashbuckling action. With a wonderful theme tune. The english dub is pretty good too. The voice actor for one character, a vatican envoy, is brilliant. Making him even more cunning than anyone from Blackadder. The vhs - and later dvd - do also contain the long lost thirteenth episode. Which the bbc never actually showed. It acts as an epilogue for the show. It's all in French with subtitles. And the original french theme which is interestingly different. The picture quality of this episode isn't great but it's an interesting curio. All together now 'you've got to fight for what you want....'
The Great Space Coaster is hardly forgotten. Now, The Adventures of Snelgrove Snail, there's one that I'm sure no one remembers. It was a Canadian puppet show from 1980 about a snail and his shellfish friends going to school in a coral reef. Super cheap looking but kind of charming, it made the rounds of crappy local UHF stations throughout the Eighties.
Underrated- The Peter Serafinowicz Show. Only had one series and while some sketches miss, I thought it was a pretty good show. It was a great showcase for Peters impressions and had some funny sketches that I still quote from time to time. Shame it never got a second series as I think it would have found more of an audience
A show that even I had forgotten about until looking up some of the shows mentioned in the comments triggered a memory was 'Tales of the Gold Monkey' 1982-1983, a show inspired by the movie, 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember it being a lot of fun.
❤ I grew up with the Great Space Coaster I love that show great theme song and Steven Clash worked on that and on Captain Kangaroo at the same time he even gave up a chance to work on The Dark Crystal with Jim Henson because he felt he owed it to them to at least finish the shows so that they'll have a proper ending
Forgotten TV show, Crusader Rabbit, 1950's, a Jay Ward cartoon a predecessor to Rocky and Bullwinkle featuring characters similar to R & B, Crusader, the hero, his strong but dense sidekick, Ragland T. Tiger and the villains, Dudley Nightshade and Bilious Green. Also from the late 50's, early '60's, two SF cartoons, Colonel Bleep and Space Angel.
I remember 'Crusader Rabbit', but 'Colonel Bleep' and 'Space Angel' are new to me. I presume they didn't get rerun in the 70's, or at least, not in my area.
A forgotten one: Ovide. A kids show about a duck? I think. I believe it was French Canadian, and I don’t recall much about it other than a top tier closing theme tune.
Prisoner cell block h was it ran from 1979 to 1986 set in the wentworth woman's prison it was hard to say who was my favourite character at a push I'd have to say bea smith she was thee top dog in the prison and rilvary with joan the freak ferguson I have all 692 episodes
I remember wanting to buy The Great Space Coaster toys being sold at a Big V convience store when I was a kid. I also loved the show of course. I haven't seen or thought of Willow The Wisp since I was very small.
Forgotten. 'Ultraviolet' and i dont mean the film from 2006. 6 episodes were aired by CH4 late in the 90s, and it starred Idris Elba and Jack Davenport. It was a different take on the vampire trope (who were referred to as 'code red'). It was less 'Buffy' and more like the later 'Torchwood'. It dealt with certain human themes, and all was set for a second series (which never happened). Somebody dropped the ball on that one.
Animal Kwackers. I used to love this as a kid in the 70s, though I remember being slightly scared of Rory the lion! Another of those shows, like the Magic Roundabout, where I am sure the writers were on something!
I loved the first series, but I thought they ruined it when they introduced Carl and changed the animation style. I only recently found out that this was because Van Partible, the creator of Johnny Bravo, was fired from his own show when Warner Brothers bought Cartoon Network. They said it was because he lacked experience! In the early-mid 2000s they brought Partible back for a final season. I watched a couple of the episodes and I enjoyed them a lot more than seasons 2 & 3.
Underrated, The Herbs. Often overshadowed by Camberwick Green and Trumpton but I think this puppet show was superior. Excellent, V The Mini Series. First 2 seasons had excellent special effects with a good story. Those uniforms too.
How could anyone forget Maggie Kirkpatrick? It does beg the question of how bad were social services in Australia back in the 1970's/80's though? There was this show. And the whole Susie Driscoll debacle from PCBH.
For me mate, Excellent: Round the twist. Nothing better than the surreal antics of the Teens in the 80's. And the theme tune, so memorable. Underated. Supernova. It's a Rob Brydon vehicle set in the outback, but it's strangly compling, sweet and funny. Overated. Little Britain. It was just not funny. Can't see the appeal of one dimensional charectors doing the same thing week after week. Once, yes. 20 times, god good put me out of my misery.
Another forgotten series is 'Murphy's Mob'. A kids series shown on ITV, it revolved around a put upon manager of a struggling football club and a group of teenagers who attempt to set up a junior supporters club and clubhouse within the stadium. Fun fact, the theme tune was sung by the late Gary Holton of Auf Weidersehen Pat fame.
I have a forgotten childhood show for you; did you ever come across "Ludwig"? It appeared on BBC1 in 1977,in the same time slot as "Willo the Wisp",Ludwig being a sort of animated Faberge egg(!).The background music was all excerpts from the works of Beethoven. I liked it...but then,I would. 😁👍 A
I remember Willo the wisp as a kid, Evil Edna was a great creation and its my nickname for my ex girlfriend 😂 How about this one for a forgotten show, Murphys Mob, a kids TV show from the early 80’s about Dunmoore FCs junior supporters club. Best thing about it was the theme tune which was sung by Gary Holton who played Wayne in Auf Weidershein pet, I challenge anyone to remember it
Has anyone mentioned the kids series Chocky? I loved it! It was about a boy called Matthew who befriended a glowing alien called Chocky. There were two sequels, Chocky's Challenge and Chocky's Children. I remember loving them all although I can't quite remember the storylines I'm considering getting the box sets off eBay 👍
Here’s a new one….and terrible. CBS’s Dinner with the Parents. Seems that, after the success of the remake of Ghosts, CBS hoped to have a hot streak adapting Britcoms, and chose Friday Night Dinner. FAIL! Looks as bad as MTV’s version of The Inbetweeners.
Gary Gnu? No, l preferred Fraggle Rock. Flashing Blade? Excellent. Willow the Wisp... ❤ But what about "The Trap Door" narrated by Willy Rushton? On forgotten " l forgot that one" classics l loved Twin Peaks & Tales of the Unexpected. I bloody Hated Challenge Aneka & anything with Giles bloody Brandreth in it. Biggest load of Dog shit was "To the Manor Born". Love this channel & Eeries Vault btw.
An Underrated one. Rotten trolls. A uk kids show on city from the late 90’s about some Norwegian trolls that decide a kid called Eric is their king based on some graffiti in a cave.
@@CarysCreatesThings you’re right, it was roger. I remember his sister took over in later seasons. Still the best show Martin climes has done outside of men behaving badly
love wilo the wisp i have the series on dvd, one thing i would like to suggest is a 2008 sitcom that sadly aired for one series is lab rats starring chris addison i thought it was hilarious but it was not a critics favourite unfortunately, all episodes are on youtube
Still holding out hope for Modern Toss, The Armando Ianucci show or Armando Ianuccis Time Trumpet all 3 are criminally underrated shows, especially the latter two
I thought Muppet stuff was Rubbish. theny the did some Okay Films (Kernit doing " the rainbow connestion" and the muppet show and all that .. but these other " Ill tell what Ive an idea!!" for something well not just big bird beinf a big muppet" obviously I dont know him but Im willing to think it would not be a favorite of his.
Time gentleman please My secret pleasure. Was incredibly funny especially the first series Mind you with Terry(Phil Daniels) farting like a 125 intercity had me Cheers for the beers And a white wine fruit based drink for the ladies . Can't believe it's 25 years old next year
@@TFOOS Was it the voices or the characters, that's like when I mentioned Angela Anaconda, man that was nightmare fuel and I was already 17 when that show came out, it looked gruesome, I take it you didn't like the show for the same type of reason, it is true that a lot of cartoons in the 80s and 90s were pretty empty, not much plot but most were entertaining.
Wife not life, and you made her entire week by recognising the gaffer tape on the gundy building. And you make my occasional one by actually responding to you. Shelley spaced Black books Red dwarf Brittas I will stretched as far as dinner ladies. Best British sitcoms ever.
