If I were to take training it would be best to learn from those well experienced trained drivers who been at this for years-I sure would and ask questions at any time when you're training for the first time no matter what age you are.Be safe,wear a harness,hard hat and vest at all times.

I was crushed by a forklift while at work with the USPS. I invite you to watch the videos of my experiences, now posted on RU-vid under my name. They will give you another perspective on how serious the ramifications are of operating Powered Industrial Equipment. Please give Safe Operations of a forklift daily consideration, both as an operator as well as a pedestrian.

Pallet/forks way to high off the ground for travel. Forks should be only high enough to avoid hitting any imperfections in the pavement. Forks should be only high enough to fit a Matchbox between bottom of forks and the ground.

No. Not saying he's exactly doing the job right, BUT my learning guy was actually spot on about it saying that in the worst case scenario, if anything goes south, we aim to break the shin of a pedestrian who gets into an accident with us, as it's far less serious than crushing and mincing the joint down there.

@@Statimtek You didn't get that the point in operating such heavy industrial machinery is NOT TO have an accident in the first place, yes, but his teaching was focused on the very worst moments where you do hit a pedestrian on empty forks and there are places where it's definitely easy to do so, like my workplace for example.

It's funny how learners are instructed to drive with empty forks tilted back when: 1 This is a dangerous practice, people or merchandise can be pierced by the forks and 2: you have to tilt the forks forward to enter the pallets, so you have added an extra, unnecessary step by having the forks tilted back. Forks should be as low to the floor as possible and flat to the floor when traveling without a load.
@philipglancy8593
@philipglancy8593 4 года назад
Are you off your head? If you didn't have them tilted back and hit uneven ground or a pot hole the forks will drive into the ground probably tip you over, or break the forks or mast.
@Statimtek
@Statimtek 4 года назад
@@philipglancy8593 Nonsense! You never, ever drive with the tips pointed up. It is a safety hazard! if they are at the correct height they will not catch. Obviously you adjust for the ground surface, but on a flat floor they should be no higher than a matchbox to prevent the load tipping when you go around corners. You avoid pot holes. How will that break the mast when it is designed to lift upwards of 2,000 pounds?
@philipglancy8593
@philipglancy8593 4 года назад
@@Statimtek okay so you're correct and the official training companies and me are wrong lol..... A match box? It says in your training 4 - 8 inches, how big are your match boxes?? You literally don't have a clue what you're talking about! You say the forks are more likely to pierce something/someone if there slightly tilted back?? How do you work that out?
@Statimtek
@Statimtek 4 года назад
@@philipglancy8593 I don't know what I'm talking about? Hmmm lets see, I have 26+ years of experience, I have taken safety certification classes have been tested, and carry certification, I have also trained new hires on the forklift, I am on a forklift 40 + hours a week and have gone home every day without hurting myself or anyone else, so I think I can safely say I know what I am talking about. I also work for a major corporation that whole heartedly agrees with my philosophy of safety and enforces it on its employees everyday. My information comes straight from safety training so to say no one agrees with me is just wrong. To ask how tilted forks would injury someone or cause damage is something that would be obvious even to the completely uniformed, all they have to do is look and see. Having the forks as close to the ground as possible for stability is fact. Everything you said would suggest traveling at excessive speed, and reckless driving and even then it would not break a mast. Your questions and claims shows that you Sir, are the ignorant one.
