more specifically, epic lets you copy a spell on each of your turns, in exchange for not being able to cast anything else, enduring ideal was a spell to tutor an enchantment into play and had epic
I always loved Form of the Dragon. Its one of those cards where flavor and mechanic just makes it stand out so much in a wonderful way. I really hope WotC makes some more Form Of cards.
I think you tend to do better than average player with Cabal Therapy decks in general, making this deck perform extra well. Also making these some of the most informative videos available.
My first instinct on how to build around form of the dragon was noticing that it costs exactly 7 mana and is red. Meaning Irencrag Feat can turbo it out similar to Show and Tell, but it keeps you in red and lets you do other stuff too. I'm not sure what singularly powerful spells you can cast for 7 red mana in legacy exist, but i think it could be an interesting angle to go in
I guess you could cast Drakuseth, Maw of Flames or big Karn? I don't think that really gets there in the current legacy environment, but it sounds fun.
@@Vuurgeest Drakuseth's big problem is that it doesn't do anything until you untap with it next turn. Now, if this was a sneak attack deck, getting drakuseth out with haste would be fun. but sneak attack decks have better targets Big Karn is cute and definitely takes over a game all by itself though
What a fun league!! Its always nice when the card you brewed around is actively winning you the game and doesn't get sideboarded out almost every round. Especially enjoyed the surprise synergy with Ancient Tomb xD
I used to play enduring ideal prison in modern as a fun FNM deck. I really enjoyed it. Then MH1 lol I played blood moon, 1x dove scape, 2x form of the dragon, 3x ghostly prison, 2x sphere of safety, overwhelming splendure, and various other door prison cards. Was a ton of fun :)
this is truly peak Magic content, and showcases so much of what I love about the game. loved getting the walkthrough on Phil's brewing process, too--fantastic vid!
This deck is awesome! The only change i could potentially see is that overwhelming splendor maybe should be a main deck amd the convergance in the side or a different enchantment since splendor combos with form like convergance and i felt like you ended up needing splendor more. Convergance is nichely better against delver or aggro flying decks that could just bolt and attack with 1/1s for the finish
Definitely, opponent can still draw a Sticker Goblin and cast Muxus (which could very well be a kill) and you can get Form of the Dragon on your turn which I think makes impossible for them to get a kill (Goblins aren't very well known for being flyers :D)
@Grommok97 Sling-Gang Lieutenant makes other goblins "fly" no? That being said, Form actually turns off Broadside Bombardier's Boast ability, which is neat. Broadside has completely removed Sling Gang from Goblin decks.
Back in the days, I used to have a Form of the Dragon deck and the combo was to play it with Glacial Chasm. You would go back to 5 but with the Chasm, you would not take any damage and not being able to attack was not important because of the 5 free damage. And since you went back up to 5 each turn, you could pay the upkeep at least twice, then either win or play an other Chasm.
I think the spell you're thinking of is Enduring Ordeal (or ideal maybe?) with the keyword epic that copies the spell every upkeep. Originally I saw a modern list that ran 4 of those and their main wincon was actually form of the dragon funnily enough.
An interesting thing, you were worried about yorion briefly, but one thing to note is that form of the dragon could just kill it by dealing 5 damage to the yorion to allow you to keep bashing.
Ohh! I have a commander deck that tutors this out as the only permanent in my deck every game. (I can change the card it tutors for to set the power level of the deck. It's basically go a sideboard, really cool, but I digress.) This card slaps! It's so much fun.
I remember there was an Extended deck that used those lands that enter tapped, but sac for 2 colored mana, to cast a fast Enduring Ideal. Then it would tutor up a series of enchantments to lock the opponent out from doing anything relevant (Solitary Confinement and Dovescape I think) and then finish with Form of the Dragon.
I had an enchantment deck like this in modern that helped me win an FMN many years ago. It has Suppression Fields, Ghostly Prisons, Spheres of Safety, Dovescape, Starfield of Nyx, and Form of the Dragon. To deal with swords of plowshare line, I had Greater Auramancy
Form of the Dragon, paired with Tainted Aether, Lethal Vapors, Wrath of God, Academy Rector -- that's what I did in Premodern. Interesting to see the combo resurfacing in legacy...
Ah old memories... When I had barely discovered the game, I lost to an RG Land Destruction in which the WC was Form of the Dragon because I misunderstood the text on the card. I thought it was "at the end of the turn you gain 5 life", and I didn't use my Monstrous Growth on my Willow Faerie.
There was a cycle of 5 cards from kamigawa block with epic that said do X. You cannot cast spells for the rest of the game. At the beginning of your upkeep, copy this spell except it's epic ability. Enduring ideal won a PT back in the day
The video was awesome , great work, i just wonder if peacekeeper should be something else, it is wondelful the effort to look for a way to show a card without just putting it into a deck where it won't shine, ppl do not realize the effort you take to make the show possible , great work
Meren (Round 4) is my personal favorite EDH deck... you can build her to be competitive (along classic Stax and N'ooze/Mikaeus + Walking Ballista/Triskellion lines) or be super silly with Squirrelstorm.
I think the extra swords to plowshares in the main would be important since you happened to dodge matchups with murktide which is probably the single biggest threat vs this deck. That being said this is some impressive jank
The name of the mechanic you're looking for is "Epic" and the card is Enduring Ideal. If you have a way to get a bunch of enchantments into your graveyard quickly you can try to cascade / discover into Resurgent Belief.
Small detail but at 13:20, you wouldn’t have been able to use bone shards to destroy the token because its a sorcery and not an instant. Otherwise, Great games!
I’m kind of surprised you didn’t talk about Resurgent Belief in the beginning as a possible way to cheat form of the dragon into play. Is cascading into it too slow for legacy? Though I guess it’d just be a less interesting less powerful living end deck
R2G2 would it be better to keep the Cabal Therapy in you gy so next turn you can sac the Rector and put down Form of the Dragon? Even if they go for Matron to take NSG, they need 3 more mana to play it and at that point it would be the same mana required to just slam Muxus down, I'm pretty sure at least maindeck goblins can't deal with Form of the Dragon, right?
3rd goblin game, dont cabal a turn before the rector hits. u knew u want it dead and this one turn was so important. dont think gblins can do anything once the form is on the battlefield...
Did you consider Death's shadow as a way to close out games? Always being at 5 life, means its always an 8/8 for 1, which feels not terrible. And you're already in black.
I feel like that's win more. Form of the Dragon is already a 4 turn clock on its own if you did no other damage. I think just bolstering the plan and doing small beats with your utility creatures is the way to go.
