2 questions: 1)4 month old black lab, just started heel work. I use the slip lead and feel like I am on her throat too much. I use short segments (1-3 steps right now) and make her heel-sit. Is there a better method to not be on her throat constantly or for heel training in general? 2)She has great retrieving drive but will drop the bumper about 2 feet away from me. I make her go back, pick it up, and walk away from her until she at least drops it at my feet. Is it important to enforce/start the hold command at this age? Thank you.

Josh. Do you have any suggestions for a dog with hard mouth? He does not chew but it is more like playing with the bird/dummy.

Playing with the bird on the ground or playing with the bird in the mouth?

@@troutbum8699 He will retrieve with no problem, bring the bird/dummy back, sit, and plays with it in his mouth. It's almost like he needs to readjust the position.

We use the force fetching method to correct mouthing behavior that you described. There is forceless fetching methods out there, but really haven’t seen a good result from it. Force fetching on the other hand has 100% success if applied correctly. My suggestion is to look for a local club and get some hands on help from members.

Do you really mean "formal HAND training"? Or are you actually talking about "formal HANDLING training"? Your terminology is somewhat confusing, as what you do does not have much to do with a "hand" but rather with a more formal or structured "handling" of the dog during a training session. So then, what is this "formal hand training"?

You do realize pretty much any trainer wether its for a hunting dog or not uses the same conditioning for all obedience training right and if he hated it he wouldnt be wagging his tail at all you sir are and idiot

A little bit of hate brings a lifetime of freedom. Would you rather have a dog that is a menace to the neighborhood? Or a dog completely under control and can go anywhere he/she pleases. I hated do a lot of things in my life but the result was better than what I hated.
