This vessel was originally built to patrol the cold waters of the North Atlantic for the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency. She was converted into a long-range expedition yacht and relaunched in 2014.
She has proven herself as an accomplished charter expedition yacht in Antarctica, earning €290,000/week (plus all expenses).
The structural changes (est cost was over €20mil) were aimed at bringing as much light as possible into her interiors. The portholes were enlarged, skylights added and a new upper deck saloon was created with wrap around windows.

Yes, this is the Explorer Yacht XK, which has been all over Antarctica.. How much does it consume at its economical cruising speed? I'm certain that I would buy a 90ft aluminum hull ketch or schooner with a centerboard, like the Spirit of Venice, Pelagic 77, or the (Palmer Johnson) Sunday Morning.. I'd only buy a motor yacht that can carry a helicopter.The Itasca is the most exonomical, but ugly option for it. If I really had the money, I'd either choose this or that other Maugham design with that all-glass saloon, a helicopter hangar and a pool
