The worst part is the feeling that you’re being controlled. It isn’t a genuine game. I play the objective well in games like hardpoint & doms. The matchmaking is so controlling that I am matched with teammates that completely don’t play objective . So if I go one match not playing objective, the end score is usually something like 250 - 1. So what’s my incentive here? I don’t have one , I’m just a piece of an algorithm puzzle.

yeah i find it rather odd how these ppl get these bot lobbies literally it’s like these ppl arent shooting them back.. i get a dub or a 15 20 kill game and then i get sent into a lobby of cheaters the next… i notice if i dont play for two weeks and get back on my lobbies are smoother theres no lag or anything and the game plays like it should but if i play too much i get put into these insane glitchy shitty lobbies with cheaters it’s honestly killing my love for the game.. it’s bad enough i don’t have pc nor am i near any of the dedicated servers
My experience with sbmm is if i have a good game i finally pop off i get the next 10 games against try hards while my teammates are the lower skilled players they are trying to protect
Why not just get rid of it I’m tired of getting body slammed by the top 250 lobbies I get put in every game(granted if it’s good that they have it for the new players)
Isn't the average players KD like .6 or .7? Without SBMM, the player base would drop off hard because kids who get constantly slammed would just stop playing. I'm by no means a sweat but with a 1.7 I feel like my games are pretty balanced and generally fun, at least in MP.

You can turn off cross play yourself. I only play against console players and have a much better experience. Albeit my pings slightly higher 10% of the time. But no biggy

Black ops 2 had it all, man. Goat maps, goat guns (MSNC ETC), and the match ups were FUN. As someone who played, i can tell you "sbmm" was not like it is now.
I stopped playing around 6 months ago, and will likely never play COD again. But just wanted to add, in recent years of playing, despite living right next to a server,I have played one game in literal thousands with a 6 ping connection. The 99.9% of games i played placed me in different countries several hundred miles away. Again to reiterate I live right next the damn sever. So yeah I stopped taking anything they said about king is ping seriously, I quite the game due to rampant cheating, and have no interest in returning. There are thousands of great games out there, no reason to waste my time with COD.

I don’t always mind having to try, I like the fast pace most days. For me what ends up being frustrating is actually who I end up getting queued with. It’s extremely deflating to fight other squads when it seems like my squad has significantly less skill. Now abstract skill like game sense and teamwork would be hard to quantify but when I’m paired with people who don’t even seem to have basic game sense or awareness, that’s where SBMM really draws issue with me
I think skill involved match making is a good thing. I think for new players it should be a lot harder for them to run into really good players but the current system takes this to a HUGE extreme. It needs to be toned down. Not necessarily removed just toned down a lot.
@@WhosImmortal Yeah, but from the lens of new players or those that aren't good or "skilled" not having to continually play against the players that do the non-stop stomping it makes it so that the game can actually be fun. Having to always play against good players when you aren't good isn't fun and ruins the game quite a bit, and makes it so that players don't want to play. I'm not saying that the matchmaking process isn't flawed, but I am definitely not empathetic for the streamers/content creators/other really good players that play the game non-stop and are good having to play against similar players. I'm much more apt to be empathetic for those that aren't good that would get stuck with hardcore players if I had to pick. All that being said, I would MUCH rather prefer to have the ability to turn off cross play so that consoles don't have to play against PC players, and would also much rather have connections be more matched to hopefully eliminate the shitastic lag problems.

No way it was in COD4 you could pub stomp the same Lobby for hours going back and forth now you get in a lobby you’ll never see them players again. Once in awhile your team will flip flop that’s about it. My issue is I’m pulling a 21 ping and don’t get a game till 60-80 sometimes. Like I’m getting low ping that skyrockets cause of SBMM. Kinda annoying. MW2019 is when SBMM became really beefed up. Everyone that’s played since the OG days knows that.
100 % true We all know the truth, Golden days of gaming gone by not in terms of quality / content but having fun with the boys and playing the same people over & over again made for some intense games and really got some good friends out of it.
Honestly, I just want looser match making above the bottom protected bracket. Keep the protection for the lowest percentage of the player base. I want ping to be absolutely king again
Tbh even if it was the bottom 50% that was separated from the top 50% I feel like it would be better than it is now for mp. At this point I only play pubs in Warzone never in mp. If I’m playing mp I just play ranked bc I know what im getting into and I’m in the mood to sweat. With wz it’s at least a little more deviation bc of the player count but still. I don’t see why they can’t give us more options like a Fortnite for example they did a good job with arena and all that

I have played alot of BR's with my friends, but always preferred area shooters- and cod just simply feels the best to me 😭 agreed, just crank it up for certain modes that are ranked
It’s funny how this stuff can directly reflect other aspects of life. In many ways Activision represents everything we hate about corporate greed, yet at the same time catering to the top 1% is no better either. It’s almost like a catch 22, either way I’m gonna keep playing because I always find ways to have fun and I enjoy the challenge of fighting like skill players.
I’ve been on a run of 15 kills. Been fully plated. And run into someone who was quite literally bullet proof, and when they did hit me (after running circles round them) they killed me in a couple shots. It was so obvious.
Big part of the “issue” surrounding SBMM is the general lack of understanding by most players on what it even is or how it works. We all get “sweaty” lobbies and we all get “bot” lobbies but they’re relative to our own skill. I’ll get lobbies ZLaner will never get and he’ll get lobbies I’ll never get, but we can still end up in the same lobbie. It’s really “Retention Based Match Making”. It’s designed to “manipulate” you into playing more games. Fluctuating levels of dopamine, just like slot machines at a casino. Lotta people will say they hate it, but admit it or not their brain loves it.
I wanna play this game for fun, not for competition. When I got my k/d to 1.32 (up from 1.22) I struggled to even get a single kill. SBMM doesn’t need to be this strict.
I have the the Feeling since they released mw3 sbmm became even worse ! Like i kinda had some great games back to back to back and so on when it was mw2 only like 15-20 kill games in the double digits every day . Now i barely get a 15 kill game per day like most of the time its the first game or one of the first couple games i get a 15+or 20 kill game and after that its sweat lobby after sweat lobby really bad like beamed from every direction litterly demons only .
Can’t be much worse. I was playing Warzone duos with my buddy last night. I’m a level 51 and he’s a level 45. And we were running into max level 1050’s and 800+ teams all night long. I don’t understand how this is possible if there’s SBMM in the game. We off after 5-6 games. It doesn’t make the game fun at all to play. Very frustrating.

First game on im talking hella trash with 5 kills in the first 3-4 minutes maybe drop 13 or so and then sfter that im dropping 1-4 kills for the game and raging in my mic until i ultimately get chat banned again😢
Sbmm is a work in progress that is continuing to evolve as its being created. They will figure it out, they will go to a 10-game average or something like that. I personally think the cheaters are the biggest problem, can you play in a lobby everybody averages around 20 to 30 kills but then there's two people on one team that has 80 and 90 kills sometimes over a hundred.
I wouldn’t mind sbmm if it actually stoped people from reporting me for body slamming them and their teams. I do t mind facing top 250 but I just face a bunch of mediocre players and they just end up mass reporting me because they get salty and I get shadow banned for 7 days because god forbid some one is better than them and not cheating this is ridiculous. I win 6/10 games and I just get put in with normal players, players that at most are 1.8kd this is me at 2.90kd 17k kills. In my experience either every one in my lobby are unaware drones or straight blatant cheaters. NEVER VPN NEVER CHEAT never 3rd party software. Just normal SBMM
So many people are worried about sbmm when it really doesnt matter anymore at this point. 10-15 years ago there wasnt nearly as many sweats in the game but now we have so many streamers and content creators that give you the best loadouts and teach you how to use movement and work on your aim etc and because of this the overall player pool has become much sweatier than it ever has been. The days of the casual fps games are long gone
Also sbmm also trys to compensate new players by having them play randomly with a much higher ranked player. Which also is annoying because I don't want to teach someone how to play the game.
I didn't get good by getting my hand held it was the whooping from better players that drove me to become something very different now its a reverse issue and sometimes I legit feel bad for beating the clueless not really fun or challenging
we are a squad of 4 players. We all quit playing CoD. The priority is just making money. Understandable for a company. Problem is, that fun game experience and the community needs arent priority at all.
IDK...in BO2 unless you left the lobby yourself, you stayed. Was fun playing with the same people daily for hours. Maybe we were all around the same skill, but it didn't bounce you from lobby to lobby ever.
My biggest issue with SBMM is it makes players not care to get better at the game because you will never be able to reap the benefits of your increased skill. It will only make your lobbies more difficult which, in return will make going for nukes and getting big streaks a thing of the past. Kill streaks/high kill games is one of the biggest incentives for people to play the game and if you take that away from the above average player base, you will lose your core community. I sympathize with Activision on this a little bit because it’s a lose lose for them. If they get rid of SBMM then the less skilled players get pissed and if they keep SBMM, the good players get pissed like WTF…
Bring the persistent lobby system back, it's not that hard. Let people actually have a say in the lobbies they play in. Getting stomped? Leave. Doing the stomping? Stick around. Ambivalent? Probably stick around. If the lobby gets too lopsided you could always have some sort of threshold that dissolves the lobby when the in-match quit rates get too high or when the average time a new joiner stays in a game becomes too short. The current system just removes all choice and autonomy from players.
Thanks Zac. Appreciate the info and the perspective. I've been dropping exclusively Superstore Resurgence with a mixture of solo quads and random squad fills. My goal is to improve my 1 v 2,3, or 4 play. My skill is improving for sure but I'm getting gunned at an alarming rate :). I'm a MnK player and in this mode most gun fights are CQB. Most players in the lobby are in the 900's rank and have a good grasp of centering, slide canceling, drop shotting, and slide canceling into a reverse jump shot to hinder tracking. Mid map, most all are running META guns currently the Superi/Static with STG/MCW. I'm usually winning my first fight but I'm taking too much damage winning that fight and usually getting shot by a teammate that kills me and revives the guy I downed. I just need more reps to continue to improve my game. SBMM is horrendous at this point. These are some questions I have: How is skill ranked? Strictly K/D? Average damage taken/given, average kills, number of deaths, movement distance (campers don't move), slide cancel executions? What do they look at? This might help me tune my play a bit to get into lobbies that don't have some absolute demons. Lastly, are there any stats available anywhere on lobby K/D? I would really like to know who they are putting me against. Also, Is there anyway to tell the K/D based on a players Activision ID or Battlenet ID? Thank you sir!
That is why in COD4 the host of the game was always the best player… would be the only person 4 baring… if other connections weren’t strong… as soon as host dropped … the connection was diverted to the next best connection in pub lobbies… I recall it like yesterday… 17 years ago 😮
literally all they have to do is make sbmm similar to the older cods for bo6. if the playerbase experiences the traditional sbmm and everyone dislikes it then return to this version and keep it that way for good, if not then we get to keep the classic sbmm. its the easiest way we as a playerbase can give true information as opposed to the bullshit "sources" and "evidence" that theyre taking from out of their ass. i know for a fact activision doesnt have a legitimate and valid pool of commentary regarding sbmm because they are too stubborn to be told they are wrong.

Bring back back the old days where it gave you lobbies with best connections and lobbies stayed together so you could make friends while playing. Make the game good and you'll keep the players playing
Also I think of it like a CAKE they started with 1 Ping based 2 level based 3 KD BASED 4headshot percentage etc etc etc I think they’ve just added metrics and layers of “skill” so maybe the solution is just ROLL BACK the last few changes the devs have made and go back to the earlier SBMM FORMULA
It’s not just about the SBMM it’s the wait times between lobbies, I’m tired of waiting 2-3 minutes to find a game cause of how high my KD is. Shit literally goes up to 90 ping for me sometimes before it even finds a game. And no I’m not shadow-banned.
Current CoD doesn't use SBMM though they use a proprietary form of match making that does factor skill base & other various factors into it to help maximize their profits that no one knows exactly how it works or functions other then the devs. If they did use straight up SBMM it would all work out pretty much just fine but numerous other things are factor in to the match making to say for example keep players playing longer. Hence why you can have so many good games in lobbies where you play well or feel like others are on, near or below your skill level then you start getting lobbies where it's clear said players are above or well above your skill level. Then it goes back to normal & the process repeats over again for example.
I’m a 2.5-3.5 k/d player since warzone 1 but I play the game way less nowadays since it’s not as good. But now I take a break for a month or two and the game is unplayable because it gives me egregiously difficult lobbies every game. Lobbies lag and stutter, don’t have meta guns, and lobbies full of sweats, streamers, and cheaters :( I can’t play the game casually on my regular account unless I grind insanely hard to get “locked in” again. But real life is busy and don’t have time for that so basically can’t play the game or have fun.
It doesn’t work. Last night me and my boy both 2.5kd players got on some duo quad fills and our teammates were level 35 and walking into walls. How tf is that sbmm yet the rest of the lobby was iri sweats. Make it make sense
I wish it would make sense somehow. But for the last few weeks I get constantly shit on by crimson, iri and even top 250 players, mind you my K.D is a measly 1.4. How does this make sense or is fun for anyone but them?
The problem is CoD can’t do matchmaking the same way that they used to. Unfortunately. Players won’t stick around and learn and get better like we did. They will just quit and move on. The world has changed and people are far too fragile to get their feelings hurt and then practice and improve their game. They just want it handed to them.
Warzone is almost unplayable rn. Ranked is so stupid, I’m a diamond 1 and I die to atleast 1 cheater every 3 games. In pubs warzone it’s almost just as bad, just absolutely ridiculous. Smurfs are running all over the place, it’s absolute bs.
I’m just saying almost every player on the enemy team for me is crim or higher. Like operators every calling card. But if my friend joins me the lobby average drops so far that it’s unrecognizable. From crim/iri to fresh accounts and ppl who lack enough sense to move when getting shot
For as much as I want sbmm/eomm to go away or at the very least get turned down, I have accepted that it won’t. I think they need to prioritize focusing on the rampant cheating (update ricochet or get a better anti-cheat), update the servers to improve them, and remove forced crossplay. Make it so that console can play just console removing pc.
Just have a strict SBMM in ranked because its meant to be tough, if it isn't unranked, it should be casual and ping based. Now the unranked games feel like playing for a cash prize smh
Sometimes after a good game or two, the next few matches force me to camp, literally, play passive and camp in zone cause I'm suddenly playing against people that act like that their Solo game is either life or death if they don't win. I simply can't be bothered to play against some of these players every game. I just wanna jump in a Solo and vibe, try to get a semi-high kill game and go for the win. But no, I'm against players that beam me from anywhere on the map that are stimming every fight, so I just end up winning (if I do) with 10 kills average.......(On Rebirth). Eight of the players I passively killed on my way to victory probably had 20-30 kills. TL:DR, have one good chill game, then face tournament players on a kill race...ugh.
One thing to keep in mind is that, yes Robert Bowling is a former COD, like he says its been awhile. However, he is also currently tied a game that will be (at least somewhat) competing with COD, so while his opinions do seem relatively balanced, he is going to have some personal biases.
Makes me laugh they say sbmm keeps players in lobbies and not leaving yet they don't realise or don't seem to be bothered about the many that simply are leaving the game and walking away completely like myself I haven't touched cod since modern warfare because sbmm just takes the enjoyment out
If ping is king, why do I get partied up with randoms that live on the opposite side of the country? They're lying about the ping anyway. Mine says 11ms all the time, and I can see visual lag and the ping never changes. It's all bullshit.
I average 8-11ms ping but my frames in some games are all over the place. Thats probably what youre experiencing. It legit gives me a headache and looks like my screen is shaking uncontrollably

Told you lol. They didn't sight anything in those white forms that actually meant anything. No sample size, no break down of their data points at all (what kind of players were used, how matchmaking was performed for them, etc, etc). Ping is king. Full stop. Put the people who actually have disabilities and people who are really bad at the game in a protected server and let the rest be ping as the top priority, and no I don't mean delta ping, I mean real ping. So what if a handful of casuals drop out, we didn't need them before, we don't need them now.
sbmm doesn't make the game fun just makes it tedious as everyone who has 1 good game now has to continually go into every match at that kind of skill level of that one lucky match
Yall need to remember what internet was 17 years ago. My mom had to tell me to get out internet so she could place a call. When you were opening an internet page such as a google research the page was loading bit by bit from above to below. So yes ping was a priority if you wanted to have a game lol
I think @Callofduty is conflating their analytics in respect to profits and user engagements while completely dismissing or abusing their users addiction to what was a good COD experience of low ping engagements and a hope that @Ricochet would actually eliminate the major problem of cheaters. It seems they are so blinded by the money COD Bundles are generating they fail to recognize the foundation is falling apart. 🤷♂️
It would be really nice if they showed us what percentage of a player each account handler is. I get tough lobbies but if it can be more difficult (based off the current matchmaking system) I’d love to know so I can be thankful I’m not a part of that level of SBMM. I have a 2.76 kd in resurgence so I’d imagine I am in the top percentage of lobbies in the Atlanta area but if it can be harder I’d love to know. If not, at least I can give myself a pat on the back by knowing I play in the hardest lobbies cods matchmaking system puts together.
At a 40 six-year-old dude if I play against sweats every time I get on I will not play I enjoy playing people my skill level sometimes I win sometimes I lose
My issue is that it seems to be all bs. I'm a slightly above average player. Most of my lobbies(quads) included multiple teams of players with 2.5kd or better across the board. It wasn't unusual for the winning team to have an avg of 4.5kd. I saw lobbies with 1.2kd+ on the regular, which is absurd in quads. That was the case until i finally bought the battle pass. Suddenly, my average lobby is 0.88kd, and i rarely saw anything above a 1.1kd. That lasted until caldera. Some might ask why i kept track of the numbers, and i can answer that, I'm competitive. I may suck no matter how much i practice or play, but i still like seeing hard data. I just like seeing the numbers as i can look and see if I'm getting better or if it was just a stretch of easy lobbies or if I'm getting worse or it was a stretch of difficult lobbies. After Caldera dropped about season 3, the lobbies overall became much easier, but the top teams were often highly skilled teams. So it would be like a 0.75 kd lobby but would be rather top heavy and bottom heavy. My kd climbed, but my wins disappeared. My experience in CoD is that skill and latency aren't the major factors in sbmm for mediocre players. It is trying to sell you skins and blueprints. They've just fine turned it enough that it still seems that skill is a major factor, but in reality, it's just a rotational system for mediocre and bad players to be exposed to the new skins and blueprints. So it's not the game throwing highly skilled players a bone when they get easy lobbies. It's that they were needed to try to sell something to the mediocre or bad players, so they were thrown into a low monetary value lobby to hopefully induce some some spending.
No way a whole community complain about something that they wont change but yall keep giving them money with no feed back on why they do the things they do
If 3 players perform too good in team A and only one try hard in team B, then SBMM needs to work in background, he needs to switch one good player from team A to team B. That is how we (core, og players) mix balance manualy. Can they do that are they able to do that?

My buddy will text me to play and then rage the entire time about how much he hates the game. Every single time. He rants about SBMM, EOMM, shady patents, blah, blah, blah... I don't have the heart to tell him that he's just not as good at the game as he thinks. 😆
