This has been going on for 2+ years and nobody has brainstormed a counter measure to stop this? Just sign into law that you cannot install a used catalytic converter and all catalytic converters need to be new and have to have a serial that's in a registry. That would save all of this. If you are caught selling one and installing it into a car, you face a stiff fine and jail time. If this would be signed into law tomorrow, you would see a significant drop.

@@henryadams6515 It's not about the metals inside, the converters are getting resold to the auto body shops and they are buying them at a discount from the thieves and making money off of it. There's been numerous busts where autobody shops have a treasure trove of these converters stored away that they bought from thieves and are install to the same people that had theirs ripped out from.
I get the instinct to want to protect your own property, but guys, come on, put the macho away and call the cops. What a tragedy to his family and friends.
